    First impressions:

    Wrong wheels (Gotti?)
    Sunroof likely screwed up
Rear bumper repaired with parts from Home Depot
Seats need redying, can't tell how dry they are
    Wrong steering wheel
    Radio missing
Why is wiring harness showing under the steering column?
    Headliner sagging
    Cuts in the dash
    ...

    Conclusion:
Run hard and put away wet...

Lots of pop rivets on the rear bumper , Still, if it runs O.K. + drives good , ( no smoke pouring out ) I think its a bargain . I allmost want to buy it , i have a affection for 4 seater Ferraris . Where else can you buy a decent body Mondial for $ 11K ?....I like those Gotti wheels , for me thats a bonus , maybe a negative for the purist.

Not bad, but does have some miles on it. 72,317 miles
For the price of a used old Honda, I would stop by to take a look. This dealer also have other cool cars, i.e. Testarossa, Rolls Royce, E-type... but all needs to be rehab somewhat! Definitely for the DIY types!

You can't. And this one isn't decent.

You're better off waiting a bit longer and finding one around the $17-18k range.

...................................................You could be right Judge , but i have been looking at Mondials for the last few years , they have been going up in price , and i have seen them advertised for $ 17 to $ 18K a few times for a piece of crap or the motor is in pieces , , + i mean a total piece of crap ! , you have to be in the right place at the right time i guess to get a good deal for a good car ,.

I got mine from a fellow FChatter, solid condition, reasonable price, they come up. You just have to be patient. Besides, the snow is about to start falling, prices will be down soon. Happens every year...

Agreed. Buy this if you don't have the cash up front to buy a good one. 11k is just a downpayment, then add in at least 10,000 plus to make it right. Then have the least desirable f car, a Mondial 8 (not a bad one; I had one). Still a Ferrari and worth having at the right price and expectations.

I had posted a thread in the general auto section here on fchat asking if anyone knew anything about this dealership because I've seen quite a few ads of theirs with cars that are listed way below market value. There has to be some kind of a catch. I didn't get any replies to the thread.

I consider them the Gullwingmotorcars.com of the West. Medium to major projects, not for the first time buyer. Most of the cars need significant work, but are usually priced that way.

..................................................................they recently sold a Aston Martin Lagonda for $ 24 k , it sold pretty fast , i called the guy there , he was very nice + polite , I think if they buy cheap they can sell with little mark up , thats the way to do it ,nobody wants to sit on inventory for a long time , They have a few Mercedes 600 `s , which i really like for some reason , + the prices are kind of low but the cars are too incomplete for me .

I also called about the Aston Lagonda they had and it sold quickly. I also agree that $11k is nicely inexpensive for that Mondial. I'm sure someone will jump on it even though it needs some work. They ALL need some work. I would sell those Gottis and recoup some $$ to fix things. An OEM set of Mondy wheels should be relatively easy to find. I'd fix the rear bumper, change the wheels and drive the heck out of it.

Same here, "drive the heck out of it", especially if one is handy with making repairs.

Although the Gottis are a nice period-correct alternative I prefer the OEMs as well.

..................................................I must be Old , i like the Gottis , they were freakin hot when i was a teenager , i still like them , nothing wrong with aftermarket wheels , but ,hell yeah , you could probably sell them + put stock back on , but you know ., if you drive alot , the wheels could get some curb rash or a scratch, especially in NY , so thats not a negative IMO .

I know this car! It was for sale a couple of years ago on a consignment car lot in Santa Clara. It belonged to a guy that lived in Redwood City. Original asking price was $15K, then dropped to $10K, then to $9K, and then $8500. Great price, so I had to look at the car. Can't beat a running/driving Mondial for $8500 right??.......WRONG!! I went down to check it out and take it for a drive. This was the biggest POS you've ever seen! This was definitely more of a parts car!

Let me list some of the things: Whole car was repainted by Earl Scheib or similar. It was an EXTREMELY BAD paint job with orange peel, overspray on trim pieces, drips, fisheyes, sanding marks, etc. A lot of things didn't work including the air conditioning, climate controls/fan etc, the front trunk release wouldn't even work and we couldn't get into the front trunk, battery was dead and needed replacement, major oil leaks, timing belts needed to be done, bad whistling sound/squeaking coming from the engine when you gas it, car had ZERO power......I mean when you floor it, IT WOULD BARELY MOVE OUT OF ITS OWN WAY, bald and dried out cracked tires, intake boot was almost disintegrated, bumpers and rubber painted with spray cans or similar, registration was expired, headlights didn't work, and car had a bunch of garbage in the trunk and inside (literally garbage like papers, clothing, etc) at the time I looked at it. I think it had some previous light accident damage repair to the front end if I remember correctly.

I also saw a receipt in the trunk for a smog check that was done about 2 years ago (at that time), and it BARELY passed. I mean one of the numbers (I think it was NoX) was right ON THE LIMIT. The other numbers were high as well. For the NoX, I suspect it might need a Cat. I did see the original Nardi steering wheel in the trunk, and it also had a set of (dirty) sheepskin floor mats with the red prancing horse on them. The radio was still missing at the time too. I also see it has the same Personal brand steering wheel, but it had the horn button before.

I did talk to the owner and he was not a Ferrari guy. He had mentioned to me that he had only bought the car to meet women with. The guy at the car consignment lot also told me the same thing. In the end he did offer the car to me for $7500, but I passed since at that time you could get a much better condition car for the low teens. It would have been suited for someone that needed parts, or had a parts business to part the car out. Yes.......the car was THAT BAD!!

To be fair.......I'm not sure exactly what was done to this car by the new owner(s), but the problems I talked about were what I saw when I viewed the car a couple of years ago. If someone is considering buying this car, ask what has been done to it. They might have done a lot of work and it could be running perfectly now?? To their credit, it looks like they cleaned it up quite a bit though.

Also, in addition, I saw this car not too long afterwards up for sale in Los Angeles by a wrecking yard or repair shop. They were asking $11K, and it was listed as a parts car or fixer. The pictures showed some parts missing including the tail lights.

Also, I noticed in the current pictures that the registration tags still show 2009. If you're in California, make sure you check the DMV penalties since I know it was not put on a "Non-Operational" status when I checked on it last. The penalties could be "sky-high" now and you should be prepared. Also, see if the current sellers will smog it if staying in California.

Anyone who buys this..........Please let us know how it goes. I would love to see this one get saved and enjoyed!

You always have to think if a dealer is selling a car cheap then they obviously picked it up cheaper and there is always a reason for a cheap price.

Here's a thread from awhile back talking about this car.

    LINK: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278820&highlight=mondial+santa+clara

I remember there was a more extensive thread here that talked about it more in detail, but I can't find it. In that thread, one member went to look at the car and he described what he saw as well. He got excited about it in the beginning because of the price (like me), but also passed on it after inspection.

    I wouldn't touch this car with a 10 1/2 foot poll.

............Great post , + good info BXtech , who knows they could or someone could have worked on it, good to ask the new seller some questions ,Have they driven it ? etc ? , still its alot better looking than most $ 18K mondials i have seen in the last 2 years , Which is not saying much + means nothing! If the car was here in the north east i would look at it , a trip to cali is out of the question for me + sight unseen purchases for me are in the past .
