I am very close to buying a black/black scud. The car has a few months left on the factory warranty and its at a Ferrari dealership. I can choose to extend the warranty for about $4k per year. Anyone think this is a good idea?

I was in the same boat on my 08 with 1600 miles. I bought the car 1 week
Ago. I extended/added power normal for about 4k.

I personally like the comfort, especially in my first year owning this car.... Until I get comfortable that it is problem free. I also think with my mileage, that a problem is likely to show up in the first 5k or so miles. If my car had more mileage, I'd feel better about not getting warranty. I likely wont extend my warranty this time next year unless I experience problems this year.... Which I really don't expect..

How does the service history look on the one u want? How many miles?

extend it....try to get the dealer to cover the cost. I believe that by extending you get the option of further extending once the initial extension is over....

Fairly recent thread with some good points. I said in that thread and will here again, buy it, I did. If your dishing out the cash for a Scud the 4k shouldn't be much of a stretch. I know its more about needing it than spending the money but I would go for it. I even took the extended warranty on my 750Li. I think it was worth it. When the first non maintenance issue goes wrong you will smack yourself for not extending.

I am looking at two. Both black/black both in the low 170's

one has 9k miles - two owners - very high options

one has 6k miles - two owners - sold both times by the same F-car dealer where it is today. Still under warranty for 6 more months. Decent options but not as high.

In that case, try to get them to throw it in. Sounds like a very good price IMO.

If they won't and you have 6 months, but the car, drive it for six months and then decide.... Might give u a better feeling about whether or not u want or need the warranty in that time...
    Also defers the cost slightly.

You can get an 09 Scud with 6k miles fror "low 170s"? [I'm making the assumption that the one with 6 months left is an 09, unless you mean 6 months left on the already extended warranty]

    What is their asking price?

Also, there is a diff between Power Normal and Power Cube extended warranty...which one does it have (if an 08 and you were talking about an extended warranty with 6 months left) and which warranty will Ferrari let you add (its far from clear as to which warranty can be purchased for the 5th year...its factory warranty for years 1, 2 and 3, then its clear you can buy Power Cube for year 4 and it seems Power cube again in year 5...Power Normal thereafter).

i went there on 12/08/2011 . the car condition is no good. dealer told me the condition was perfect and that's why i went down there from L.A to see the car .... also the carbon fiber in the engine bay is fading in color . that's why i end up buying the car from auto gallery.... i will never deal with SD again... just waste of my time....

I have a 2008 scuderia and did not choose to pay the extra $4k (or what ever the price is) for the extended warranty.

Why: Scuderias were made to handle the extremes that road cars were not. Most all owners that have scuds will tell you they are bullet proof. Does this mean nothing will break-down that is after the warranty? NO. They are cars and cars have break-downs. 9 times out of ten you will not need it with this car.

I have not had any problems thus far (knock on wood) but if getting a warranty makes you feel good ----get it. I get insurance where and when it is needed. On that note, I would definitely get a extended warranty on a used 599. They have a lot of electrical stuff that could go haywire.

I had a claim on front bushes/A arms with my car. The electronics on a Scud are probably more complicated than a 599 IMHO. The Scud is a later and more technically advanced car than the 599 in lots of areas, electronic control being one area.
If you are buying 2nd hand you don't really know the whole story most of the time- service records or not. I think the warranty is cheap insurance for the first year, then renew or forget as appropriate.

$4K is probably worth it, I think its about double that in Switzerland

In the UK any official F car dealer will give 2 years extended warranty, they supply 1st year and Ferrari themselves supply the second. Of course it's in the price already but always worth remembering when comparing to an independent!

They are both 08 models. The one with the warranty is the full power cube. According to the dealer the owner bought the 4th year power cube warranty and if it doesnt lapse - you can extend it. I now have to assume the condition of the car under warranty is suspect (see other posts).

Question - one of the cars I'm looking at has the Carbon Fiber Racing Seats with Bata Seat Upholstery. I was trying to find out the cost of that option? I assume that's a better seat than standard?

All (except weirdly optioned) scuds have carbon race seats. The upholstery is the only difference...

Basically, the seat frame and backing is all carbon fiber
