We are going to Honolulu for a couple of weeks.......

Any suggestions what to do or where to go New Years Eve?????

Other suggestions concerning "tourism" apart from Pearl Harbour of course......the reason why we are going to Hawaii in the first place......

    Thanks in advance,

Its the biggest problem I have with Hawaii. I can't find anything to do there other than walk around on the beach. That's only fun with my Granddaughter. So when I'm home in Hawaii I spend all my time at the dining room table on F-chat. I hate it there.

glassman is right. nothing to do here so don't come back. anyway Honolulu has:

    1. Boat rides, dinner cruises
    2. Paradise Cove with luau
    3. Polynesian Cultural Center which is boring. Paradise Cove is better, cheaper, & closer.
    4. Walk on the beach like glassman did all day long
    5. International Market Place
    6. Swap meet at the stadium.....great for shopping for friends back home
    7. Helicopter rides and get to see O'ahu from the air. spectacular
    8. Visit Pearl Harbor and pray for those who died.
    9. Take pictures around Waikiki Beach ( that'll hold you for 2 hours )
    10. Rent a board and surf
    11. Eat Spam at ZIPPY's
    12. Check out Honolulu City Lights at night during the holiday
    13. Enjoy the noise and smoke around New Years Eve.
    14. Visit our TINY aquarium near Waikiki.
    15. I don't think you wanna visit the ZOO.
    16. Water Park at Kapolei if you are a water person.
    17. Dole Pineapple Cannery....good place to taste free pineapples whole day.
    18. Matsumoto Shave Ice North Shore.....gotta experience that for kids.
    19. GIOVANNI's shrimp truck before you eat shave ice.
    20. Botanical Garden
    21. Aloha Tower Market Place
    22. Check out the Rotating Restaurant downtown.
    23. Waikele Factory Outlet
    24. Pali LOOKOUT and see a great view and be blown by wind up to 60MPH.
    25. Go snorkling, swimming, shopping, driving see the view and sunset.
    26. Hike trail Diamond Head
    27. Gotta enjoy the summer with a twist of cool air during the holiday. No snow!
    28. HANAUMA BAY get to swim with little fishes and seaweeds.
    29. Sea Life Park. Swim with Dolphins.
    30. Learn the HULA dance.

glassman is a boring man.....i just listed 30 things you can do and visit. i'm sure i missed a whole lot more OR be like mr glassman. sit in your hotel room with your lap top and chat on FChat.

I can see you must really like Hawaii. Me on the other hand....I really can't stand the place, and I own a home there. It would take several pages to list entirely why I don't like Hawaii. One of the biggest complaints is that is is the most corrupt place I've ever tried to do business in. From your writing skills I doubt that you are old enough to understand that concept.

The fact of the matter is that some people....myself included really don't care for Hawaii and don't spend much time there. As for boring, at nearly 60 I'm definately slowing down, but I can assure you, at 40, you wouldn't have been able to keep up.

Awe c'mon G Man. There is no need for that and I'll bet you aren't boring in your own element. Too bad you have such a distaste for the simple pace over there. Since your wife loves it so much it would seem a worthy effort to correct yourself and change rather than dwell on the negatives. Maybe you could try one of the other islands, they aren't all the same. While we live on Oahu, we much prefer Maui and Kauai but our family is here, and jobs so we are planted for now.

Now back to the vacationers. I didn't pipe up because I dont know what to do on New Years Eve, we have a sort of family tradition of spending it at Makaha in a hotel and let the locals over that way entertain us with all the home made bombs and fireworks they light off. But the place is a dive and I couldn't recommend it for a visiting family, its just that the family has been doing it for so many decades that it has become tradition...although this year we are doing something different.

Great list a couple of posts back. The only thing I would add is trolley to Ala Moana Mall to eat in the food court. This is a fun thing to do that I do once a month or so. The food court has lots of different types of food and then you get to sit in a large casual cafeteria type setting and enjoy the people watching. If this is fun you might go back and eat at Shirukia (please help me on the spelling I am going from memory) Its at Ala Moana Mall too and if you like the idea of searching for tidbits of delicious food and milling around with people to construct a fine meal of asian cuisine you will love this experience. Feel free to post any other thoughts about your upcoming visit.

    Aloha

We just got back from our family holiday on Oahu and the B.I. I'll add my 0.02. We spent 9 days on each.

First off, 2 weeks on Oahu is a long time. I'd give some thought to possible flying over to one of the other islands. I'll add to Hawaiian35, assuming he doesn't mind.

A must see and do. Whether a quick ride, dolphin/watching watching or diner cruise. You have to get out on the water.
    Nice, good food.
I've heard this before, and as a result I've never been....until my last trip. I enojoyed it, I wouldn't describe it as boring. Plan for a full day if you go.
    Thats a no brainer.
Ahh, nothing too special. It's right in Waikiki.
I didn't like this at all...bunch of the same stuff, 90% of it is junk. Although the same crap can be had here for alot less than at the Intl marketplace.
    Spectacular, yes. Expensive, of course.
Expect a loonngg day. Lines, lots of people etc. You pretty much know what to expect going in. They have made improvements over the years. It is a sobering experience. But an absolute must see.
    Of course
some of the best surfing anywhere in the world.
    really?? :) blah
That sounds like it would be very nice
Its OK, seen one, seen them all
The Zoo is better than the aquarium. Its not too big, cheap. A good way to kill a few hours.
    Fun in the sun!!
Worth stopping by. They have a maze, a little train tour of the plantation.
North Shore is awesome. A must see. Haleiwa is a neat town.
    1 word....awesome!!!
beautiful, if you're into that :)
No comment although one of the couples we were with said it was OK.
    Nice restaurant, great food.
blah, probably one of the worst outlets I've been to.
    Beautiful
hike is fairly easy, a must see and do.
I love Hanuma bay, an abosulute must. If I had 1 full day to spend on Oahu, this is what I'd do.
Cool, about what you'd expect at a Sea Life Park. Swimming with the Dolphins is $$
    maybe :)

We are you staying? Have you giving any thought to a little island jumping?

Glassman is not only boring....he's grumpy too. Everybody loves Hawaii, there's only a few goofballs like me who actually don't care for that little slice of paradise. The slow pace is also part of it. So don't worry, there are millions who love going there, I'd rather watch the snow fall in Montana.

LMAO spot on brah. I for one am happy that not everyone likes HAW. We have too many people living over here as it is driving up the cost of living and clogging the H-1.

Hawaiian35 probably speaks perfect English. We speak pidgen English when talking here among locals. I speak pidgen even when talking to my patients, it makes them feel more comfortable and at ease. It will save your haole okole if you ever get in an altercation out in the water. Plenny 60 year-olds still rip at surfing around here.

It's so easy to hop to secluded Kauai or the Big Island (my 2 favorite neighbor islands). Maui is too crowded and commercial for me and doesn't separate itself enough from Oahu to make the trip worthwhile.

OP, PM me if you want to check out some places off the beaten track. I can tell you about mind-blowing hikes, pristine and secluded waterfalls, beaches with the brightest white sand and the bluest water that yahoos in Waikiki no nothing about.

The best thing about HAW, I drove my California with the top-down yesterday, am wearing an aloha shirt to clinic today, and am going stand-up-paddling at Ala Mos tomorrow:)

Guys I am visiting friends here in Kailua Beach, and it is such a beautiful place. Some of the Roads are closed as the President arrived here yesterday. I love Hawaii and what a terrific place to relax with very nice people.

I can't recall the name of the hotdog place in Waikiki...east side of the Intl marketplace. They have good hotdogs. Not your typical dog though, bunch of different sauces. They toast the bun from the inside and "slip" the hotdog down into the bun from the top. Some people swear by these hotdogs. Definately worth trying once.

As far as expensive restaurants...welcome to Waikiki :)

Yes...you have to look for out of the mainstream restaurants. For instance on the Big Island there are several places in Kona that serve huge breakfast lunch and dinner and are more frequented by the locals. These places are way less expensive, but the bottom line is Hawaii is just plain expensive. Another reason why I don't care for it there.

I'm glad you love Hawaii so much. I know many people who absolutely love it there, including my wife who I just dropped off at the airport this morning. When the snow flies in Montana she heads home to the Big Island for a few months. My Grandaughter is 7 years old and has been to Kona with me 6 times. She would live there with my wife if her mom would allow it. Actually we kinda feel the same way here in Montana. This is a huge state with still less than a million residents in the entire state. We really don't want anybody moving here. Come skiing, hunting, or fishing, spend all your money....then please leave, thank you very much.
Anyway I'm enjoying the snow....and the cold weeds out the weak!!!! My wife will spend New Years Day reading on the beach for hours on end...(boring).....as for me, I'll be in a heated garage wrenching on my Ferrari's.(not boring)

I don't understand the point of arguing for or against living in Hawaii. There are always people who will hate living somewhere and those who love it. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Everyone's opinion is valid from there point of view. You guys are just feeding each other's opinion. LOL

So agree to disagree .. and move on. :)

I hope you are enjoying your time.....

One thing that hasn't been mentioned and you might want experience is whale watching. There is a nice multi-hull boat that leaves Haleiwa harbor that can get you up close.

Another is hiking....from the easy - Diamond Head Crater, medium - Koko Head, to the off limits and closed trails - Haiku Stairs... There are other hikes as well.

If you're into extreme sports Sky diving out of Dillingham Airport....

    Also, Scuba diving

    Aloha
