    Seeing the materials these frames were built of is awe-inspiring, sending chills down my spine. The house that my parents built around the time these cars were built had central heating, and the piping used for it was heavier. Add the incredible spees achieved with the P-series cars, it's just mind-boggling.
    Even Colin Chapman couldn't have shaved off much weight there!

    Jim' I can't tell you how much I enjoy the photo's of your projects!

    In the day following the practice of Ford who's engines had proven so nettlesome at Le Mans Ferrari decided to use the same development techniques and while the cars were being worked on installed the engines in FIAT vans which were then used at night to transport Jacked Wine through the mountains to the port and if necessary out run the Guardia Financiale as Ford had similarly tested their engines in Moonshiner's cars.

    To maintain the same weight as the engines and gearboxes bricks were used so that the body panels could be repaired and fitted properly. The bricks were covered in red blankets so that The Old Man could deny all knowledge should the Guardia Financiale happen to swing by the Factory.

    As Sal was schooled in the old way and not only worked at the Factory but also drove these trucks through the night he insists we do it the same way even going so far as to import bricks from Modena.

    He also mounted our 412P engine in Meg's 57 Chevy and asked her to drive it around at high speeds at nights.

    When I suggested that this was perhaps going a bit too far her replied:

    "If you want to win the BIG awards at Pebble this is what you had to do."

    I told him that it's unlikely that any of my Ferrari's would ever be invited to Pebble but by then he had stopped listening and had turned on the grinder.

    This is a tale to remember! priceless!

    Men like Sal made these cars what they are.
    flying in the bricks is a bit farfedged, but it shows respect.

    Must be fantastic to have it rebuilt using the "old ways".
    Sal must have used more tricks a modern trained mechanic wouldn't even think off.

    Keep going, she deserves to be a Pebble Beach winner, but knowing she will be driven is even better!
