What's the highest 355 dealer repair bill you've ever heard of?

Check out the $47,845.84 repair bill on this one that's on e-bay. At what point do you cry uncle and say enough is enough.

All that money spent and it still has a bubbly AC control panel!!!

 

Going in, if you knew that bill would be like that, I would have stopped and decided it's time for a part out. The only alternative I could think of would be learning to become a mechanic and taking it apart yourself. May take 5 years but I don't have $47k to throw at my 355.

Buying a used engine would have been a smart idea at the point the bill was going to be over 20K?

You would assume, but as I've been told, you really don't know what headache you are buying with another engine anyway.

I can personally say that I am in the same ballpark with my 348 - there was a point that I knew it would be in the crazy range and I could have easily said no and parted out, but I was in it for the long haul.

Similarly, my interior is pretty beat up and for the money spent I could have had a pristine 348 or even a decent 355. No regrets.

There was a 412 for sale in new York that had a $36K repair bill that basically fixed an engine oil leak....

My 255's Folder has a $23K "Major Service" bill from Penske Wynn.

 

I cannot imagine that bill being more than $25K at my indie- but still, headers, valves and guides and doing everything else at the same time in 2008 when the car was still a $70K - 80K vehicle was probably not out of line.

Wow! I don't think I could even get that much for my 355 if I sold it!

My highest bill so far was $26,000+ but the sum of the repair bills is well over $60k (and my car is completely stock).

 

I have around a 10 page receipt for $27k for my car from Ferrari of Seattle. Major service, valve guides, fuel injectors reconditioned and one replaced, CV boots etc. etc. etc. For the amount of work they did, it could have been worse. I can post it if anyone is interested.

 

I was actually looking at the car and liked it. I didn't see the repair bills. I saw this car listed on cars.com.

Honestly, whoever fixed it must have too much money or was not in the right mindset....or maybe even both.

I have worked on ferrari's for 30 years at three dealers and that bill is normal for engine work.

 

Like a famous line from Spock: "I understand, that does not mean I approve"

It may be normal for a dealer to charge that amoiunt but it does not make it good.

 

It's all really supply and demand. If there were an abundance of other shops that you could just drop it off at and have no worries about everything being done correctly then that would bring labor costs down, and markup costs down (if there are any).

Also, at least with the 355 and earlier models, if owners don't care to learn to wrench on the cars themselves they are at the mercy of what the dealer say/does. How many owners out there are driving around with bad stock headers right now slowly destroying their engines to the tune of a $30k rebuild bill? Simply because their interest in the car stops at driving it and dropping it off at the dealer when there is a problem. The hands on Fchatters would know to spend 3k on fabspeed headers, install them personally and never have to worry about that again. Us hands on people are paying the $47k repair bill with the time we devote to our cars and aquiring knowledge about them. For me it feels like a dream job :O)
