    Here's a thread from 2010 on this Dino: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=271516&highlight=dino+4904

Maybe someone knows the new owner?

The seller is a great enthusiast and long time Ferrari guy. The warranty card might not be of interest to the current owner, surprisingly many owners place no value on original documents.

I've met some of those people! I'm just hoping the owner of *04904* sees the opportunity. As most of us know having the original documents will increase the value and interest of their investment.

I happened to come across the original warranty card for a 246 GT owned by a friend. I contacted him thinking that he would be delighted to acquire it. He told me, "The warranty is no longer in effect so why would I want it?" Can you believe it?

Reuniting a car with its original documentation is for me one of the great pleasures of vintage Ferrari ownership.

In one delightful case, I was able to do the opposite; instead of finding the documents that went with the car, I found (and purchased) the car that went with the documents. :)

Actually the Warranty Coupon book is the ONLY place the original dealer/buyer info is indicated.

Did cars originally delivered in Italy come with warranty cards?

    What about the other stuff?

Yes, thank you Matthias, but unfortunately not a Dino, it was just a Ferrari ... ;)

What is your opinion of the current value of a "perfect" warranty booklet?
Obviously, if its your booklet the value may be much higher, but I am referring to a booklet that is not your chassis number.

If I had a warranty card for a Dino with a specific number and I knew the owner with that Dino and would really appreciate it, I would give it for free just to reunite it.

    Freeman,

I have been in this difficult position (with a now familar f-chatter) and it isn't a decision as easy as you would want to think.

Let me throw out a conudrum......IF, as a collector, you PAID an EXTREMELY high amount to add something to your collection, would YOU give it away? Would you trade it? If so, HOW WOULD YOU VALUE THE TRADE VALUE? Furthermore, IF you didn't know the knew owner and their intension with the car, How would you handle that?

Trust me, I WAS IN THIS POSITION!!!!!!

In the end, I am happy with the end result.

HOWEVER, things like this aren't as simple as a "Previous Owner" reuniting a set of books/warranty info with a "New Owner".....

I have been collecting Dino stuff for years, and TRUST me, it is easier today than when I bought my first Dino.....

eBay was basically not around (like it is today). I ran an ad in FML for almost 3 YEARS about TRYING TO FIND A DINO KEYFOB!!!!!!!!!

I am not trying to say I wanted a perfect keyfob, I just wanted a KEYFOB!!!!!!!!1!

It sounds like so long ago, but I finally had my shot at a Dino Fob on eBay back in 2003, the FIRST one I had seen come up.

I was the WINNING bidder for the biggest piece of junk fob to come up. I paid WAY OVER for that POS in 2004.

The end result was almost $1k.

But, in all honesty, I had been looking since 2000.

    The REAL QUESTION TODAY.....

    What is the book worth?

What would it cost is a VERY different question, I am guessing....

I totally agree. What's the point if the owner has no intention of keeping the car for long and just resells the books on Ebay after selling the car and not including the books with the sale. Definitely a case by case basis.

I may be a sap but I had two warranty books I returned gratis to the owners after I tracked them down on the Dino Register. I thought they should go with the cars and wouldn't mean as much in the hands of another Dino owner. No right or wrong on this. For me it wasn't a money thing but no shame in asking a reasonable price for something like this.

I agree it needs to be judged on a case by case and know what the intention is. I don't believe in feeding greed. If someone found mine I would hope they would try to find me and offer it to me. I would pay a premium. I think its fair for someone to reimburse you for what you paid for it. It also depends whether its a good friend or stranger.

I have managed to assemble an extremely nice set of books and pouch for my missing originals. I do still need a warranty booklet and of course, I would love to find my original; #04788.
I was recently offered a nice, but not perfect, booklet that was only a few digits away from mine for the incredible price of $1250.00.
Is it needless to say I am passing on the "deal"?
There is no real value for me with this item as I could get a perfect reproduction for a fraction of their asking price.
If it were my original booklet however, I would still have to think long and hard about spending that much money on something that really and truly isn't going to make my car that much more valuable.
In my opinion, asking that much money even for my original would be extortionate.
It may be worth it to another, but not to me, and such is the free market economy.

All this talk about the value of the warranty booklet is making me wonder whether mine should be stored in a safe depost box! Fred

I would prefer a reproduction Warranty Card w/ nothing written in it as a "placeholder" than having one for another Dino. As I look at it, the Warranty Card only has value and interest for the assigned Dino. Its like having someone elses birth certificate because yours is gone.

I completely agree, Freeman. If you are concerned about having a "complete" Dino, and you have the warranty booklet from another car, it seems like an automotive version of identity theft! It certainly wouldn't add to the value of the car, in my opinion. Fred

Guys, you are forgetting about collectors who collect more than just Dino automobiles
