Jason, is it the one you looked at before you decided on the CS you bought?

Nope, different CS, this one has been in a private collection. IIRC, the CS you're thinking of that Jason looked at had coagulated brake lines.

Yikes! I asked him about that CS he looked at and he said, "If you can't say anything nice...."

No, this one has fewer miles. The one I looked at had 7000+ miles. I don't know where that one ended up. He told me a guy in Texas bought it. I spent a lot of time on that car but in the end the price was bad. The seller owed $7k in back taxes he wanted me to pay. Selling to someone out of state eliminated that.

Now that was (and still could be) a "storied" car. Taxes, gunk for brake fluid, and only God knows what else was wrong with it, you dodged a bullet my friend.

I don't think the taxes are a long term issue unless it's brought back to GA.

Everything on it was fixable. It had never been wrecked. It just sat in this guys garage for 4 years without being driven or serviced. I haggled with him for several months on the car. He wanted ridiculous money. I'd tell him no. He'd call me back a few weeks later with a lower number.

Finally we agreed on price and I it was towed to Ferrari of Atlanta for an inspection with the agreement that the cost to bring it up to date would be subtracted from the price and if the deal was done, I would pay for the towing.

Well, it gets to Ferrari of Atlanta and of course it's about $7K to fix it because it needs tires and a full service with the possibility of a lot of brake work etc.

FOA decides to make the guy an offer for the car because of course it doesn't cost them what it costs me to bring it up to service. So the seller renegs on our deal and starts negotiating with FOA and tells me I need to pay more for the car.

During the time the car was being inspected, I called the DMV to get the title history just to find out ad valorem taxes hadn't been paid on the car for at least 5 years. So, if I bought it, I owed those taxes.

I walked. FOA walked and the car was left stranded at FOA for a few weeks because the guy didn't have the money to have it towed back to his house. He actually called me and told me I owed him for the towing.

The seller finally gets the car back to his house and he calls me again and offers me the car at our original agreed price minus the cost to service (our original deal). I say OK, now what about the $6K in back taxes? He says "oh, you pay those". I walked again.

Then, a week or so later, the seller calls me and says he has a buyer in Texas that's taking it at our original agreed price. I said "let him have it". So the buyer in Texas got a pretty good deal considering he didn't have to pay those taxes.

Right about then Oengus sent me a PM about his CS that was for sale. We had a deal done in about 5 minutes. I sent him the money and he sent me the car.

If it's the right deal, its easy. If it's not easy, walk.

Damn! That's not just a story but a novella. Do you still have the VIN#? It would be interesting to find out its latest whereabouts, if possible.

I have it somewhere. It's in this thread somewhere too. I'll see if I can find it next time I'm in the office.

Definitely NOT a "storied" car because of those neglected items. If that were the case, a large percentage of Fcars would be "storied". Easy there cowboy.

What is the criteria to be considered a storied car other than an accident?

I think just accident. Seems that way. Or any other form of damage to the body or other parts.

I would alao throw in there a history of mechanical issues with things like the transmission or even a replaced engine.

Actually, I quit driving it. I feel too guilty driving a Ferrari with all the poor people around.

Interesting. So you get a door ding and your car is storied? That's "damage". How about curb rash to front bumper chin from exiting a steep driveway; storied? Scratched rockers from navigating a speed bump at the wrong angle; storied? Cracked headlight or windshield from flying rock; storied? Cracked under panel (common issue); storied? How about guy who hit a pothole and had to replace both rotors; storied? What's the difference between hitting pothole and replacing rotors from tracking?

I know of a CS that barely bumped into a garage door which resulted in couple hundred dollars of paintwork; storied? How about a CS that had it's roof re-revitted; storied? Based on your criteria, there are a ton of storied Fcars out there. And those that think 'paintwork' makes for a storied car, think again because many Fcars have had paintwork after leaving Maranello.
