I too have this magazine, I always bought AMS in the 80ties as a teenager. Yes, they favoured Mercedes and Porsche in those days, but it was and is a German magazine so no surprise they liked cars designed and build by Germans for the driving conditons in Germany, like a car being Autobahn proof. Yet I sense a deep respect and admiration for the GTO in this article. The 959 was not out yet I think and I remember only comparisions of the 959 to the F40.
But F40LM forgot to post the editorial notes at the end of the magazine, where it was mentioned that the tested GTO wouldn´t start after a wash, so they had to protect the engine everytime with a sheet of plastic before washing, and that in the ultimate high speed testing, the hoses between turbo and intercooler had to be reconnected no less than 7 times, though in the end the car reached 303 km/h. I scanned this today from my copy of the magazine and then found I already had it on my PC, so I probably posted it before, but anyway...

Thanks, very interesting! I have not the mag, these are just the scans of the article I found.
Do you think they lost power during the test? because the GTO had a lot of unfortunate tests. This for example, R&T during the WFC '87... I think we haven't a great test of the GTO, something that shows its true potential.

I agree. Also the art of testing performance cars was better by the time of the F40. Good point..

    TIA.

I had a buyer, contacted the store owner, he never responded, so I sourced another privately-owned car and sold that car instead.

At $1.3m, perhaps the history of this car has some special significance.

Unless it shoots gold out of the tailpipe, it's going to sit there for a while at $1.3MM asking. Regardless of the story. In fact, if there's a "story", without knowing what it is, perhaps a discount from market will be required to move the inventory. Looks to be a nice car, though.

2836 KM is what is on the car. Canepa has lowered the price abit. $1,150.000.00 USD. I know of an 8000km car that just sold for a 1.115.000.00. So with all services done and only 2836km on the odo I think that is a bargin. If you call Sean @ Canepa he can tell you the ownership history.

I will also say that in the Ferrari market with cars such as these typically the price most often goes up.. So even if it sits and Bruce can afford for it to sit, often the benefit falls on the dealers side.

Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know the situation. If it's a "motivated" or "distressed" seller, perhaps there's reason to move it sooner rather than later. I somehow doubt that this is the case, but who knows. Waiting is not always to the advantage of the owner or owner's agent.

Case in point...the 333 available now through Sheehan. Original asking price from Ferrari of Tampa was in the $1.5MM range. Now, $895K. Would have been better to have accepted my "low" number when I first spoke with FoTB. Prices don't always grow to the sky...

Racecars of any caliber are tough. Limited use and limited buyer. One of the easiest and best cars to race with plenty of places to race against equal cars is a 935 and there are plenty available for sale right now. Racecars and Roadcars are not the same as far as demand.

The 288GTO of Canepa's was sold by Bruce earlier in the year. That owner has decided since it is a BAR certified car that he would rather sell it, then ship it to his home out of the country. Simple as that.

I have a 288 GTO question based on something someone told me this week, is it true that there is a difference between the colour on the doors and the rest of the body, the reason I ask is there is a story going around here to that affect. I have never noticed this on any of the pictures in this thread nor on the 288 I have seen but that car was restored so could well have been repainted.

Doesnt sound correct to me but thought I would ask anyway. There is a 288 GTO here which is a reputed one owner car from new, will see if I can find pictures of it.

Yes, the car is in KM so it has 2636 kilometers as per the ad (1451 miles). The ad also has no price on their site. Last time I saw one this low was the one that came from Toronto and sold at the RM auction with 1000 or so km.

I know a bargain when I see one (since I specialize in these cars), and neither you mention was/is one.

A bargain was the 8,000km + car we just sold for $815,000, a great car with books & tools, no stories. Why did someone pay $300,000 more for the same thing?

As always, I'm available to anyone who wishes to deal in reality.
