Joe, when seeing your post and the faboulus Porsche 959 on the cover I had to check my archives, because I remembered something interesting... There is an interesting article comparing the contemporary Porsche 959 with the 288 GTO, and please note that this is in a dedicated Porsche magazine (Total 911, issue 63 from 2010 or 2011). And naturally, you expect the Porsche to excel and win in it´s own magazine, but let me quote the last words of the article... "And as much as I respect the 959, I don´t feel any desire to own one. Two days of hard driving in the GTO, however, will be an experience I shall call to mind until the day I die. It really is that good." That said from a fanatic Porsche-driver in a Porsche magazine really means something! Regards Caley
Never had an issue I was just curious and Marcel pm'd me. My apology for causing a wake as that was not my intention. Happy Sunday, Gregg
Between February 1984 and May 1987 more than 200 major articles and cover stories about the 288 GTO were published in European, American and Asian publications. Here are two covers of Italian magazines "Auto Sprint" and "Rombo", both dated 28th February 1984. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
German magazine "Auto, Motor & Sport" dated 18th April 1984 and Italian magazine "Auto Capital" of 5th May 1984. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The French weekly "Auto Hébdo" within one year had the GTO twice on their cover, issues dated 24th May 1984 and 23rd May 1985. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Was the car featured on the first cover -thread 5899- a proto (given the black plastic? mirrors) ??? If yes, do we know which one ? Olivier Bidaud
Olivier: Guess you mean the one on "Auto, Motor & Sport", post #5899 (instead of thread). This is #47711. Marcel Massini
Here's 47711, the sixth prototype. This photo is from the German magazine "Auto, Motor & Sport". Note raised center section of rear lid, script "288 GTO" on right rear, different wheels, black exterior mirrors. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
1985 on the cover of "High Performance" and "Car Graphic" (Japan). Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Germans liked it as well: "Sport Auto" of October 1985 and July 1986, and "Sportfahrer" of May 1986. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
