Anyone know if the previous to 2012 model software update is available to U.S. dealers yet?
A good friend of mine was due to take delivery of his 458 in December last year 2011! He was told he would have to pay £4.5k on top of the agreed price to pay for the 2012 engine and gearbox upgrades, he said he will not pay for it on the grounds its a 2011 car and he never asked for it in the first place. Can anyone tell me what are the upgrades and what are your opinions? Kind Regards, Roy
Sounds a bit odd dealer would ask for that. I heard supposed to be free. We'll see what happens here in the states. I'm hoping it's free, as my car is a fabulous late 2010
I heard the gearbox update was a repair not an update!!!!! Problems with it over heating and gear selection issues!!!!
Mine was at the dealer today. They had no idea about the update. They inquired with Ferrari who apparently told them nothing was available. Oh well...
think the key question is whether is an Update or an Upgrade, its seems that after much feedback from many 458 owners, they don't like DSG and wanted more action and Ferrari provided this, think you will have to pay for this as its not a Recall or Update but an UPGRADE
I posted the following in a previous thread about this and my dealer has yet to hear anything from FNA about this. Sounds like the left (Ferrari Italy) and the right (Ferrari dealers) don't talk to each other: In the Forza February 2012 edition First drive 458 article it states the following "With the customer in mind, Ferrari has differentiated the two models. Recently it reworked the coupe with revised programming for the magnetroheological shock absorbers and new calibrations for the gearbox and F-1 trac system. Those two alterations work only when the car is in race mode, and reportedlyy make the Italia one second a lap faster around Ferrari's Florano test track. All Iatlia's built after September 2011 have the new software, and earlier cars can be updated for FREE by an authorized dealer" Has anyone gotten this update yet in the US? My mechanic still has seen nothing from Ferrari related to this. My 458 was built May 2011. Thanks.
My 2011 458 was in for its yearly service last month and and I inquired about the update and Algar doesn't know anything about the update either.
I was just at the London atelier today, to discuss speccing my car...I asked why the base price of the 458 had gone up from gbp 173k to 178, and he mentioned the upgrade...its supposed to have made the gearbox faster and the car more efficient.. Best Ozan
Clockem quoted "All Iatlia's built after September 2011 have the new software, and earlier cars can be updated for FREE by an authorized dealer" at the same time your dealer informs us that the price increase relates to "upgrade", suggesting nothing is or will be free. Either the dealer is grasping for an explanation of Clockem's quote is incorrect. We will soon find out when someone wants the upgrade. Best As for the color combination, I saw nero daytona with cuio and black and it was very nice. As to the lifter, cannot speak to London per se, but if you can afford it, why not? When ordering mine I heard many times those who did not order it regretted it. I own a Twin Turbo 997 and did not upgrade so am not likely to be of help given I am fine with regular system (I listen to the motor most of the time). Good luck.
So if you have pre-Sept car Ferrari will update it for nothing. Post Sept you have to pay for it??????? Or have I got it wrong? Regards, Roy
One reason for so much "chat" on Ferrari Chat - you are probably wrong (if one thinks logically), but on the other hand, we are dealing with Ferrari, so maybe you are right -- great fun, don't you think? Best
What I posted above was direct from the magazine that I read. Prior to finding that information another Ferrar "chatter" Jazzy O had the follwing information: 1. New control software for the magnetorheological dampers. Improves body control and boost tyre performance. This software is active for all manettino settings. 2. F1 DCT transmission has evolved. This delivers more emphatic gear-shifts when in RACE, CT OFF and ESC OFF settings. Features a strategy that utilises the energy built up during gearshifts by the twin clutches to provide positive acceleration when the next gear engages. Not available in AUTO mode and only felt on up-shifts. 3. The F1-Trac has been recalibrated to guarantee that the 458 Italia accelerates faster out of corners when manettino is in RACE. Smoother, more fluid torque delivery on the very limit of road holding guarantees that the car is faster coming out of bends. From January 2012 a full retrofit package will be available for 458 Italias built before September 2011. The description and price of the aforementioned will be announced in a specific communication from the Ferrari Genuine Department. From Clock Em: I guess we will have to keep pushing the dealers to speak with FNA. You can always send a Email to Ferrari in Italy and ask them. Not sure what the response will be.
I have some informations from my dealer in France and the software update is not for free... The price is $4100 with out taxes (+20% vat) it's expensive!!
Thanks RBK for the thoughts on colour combo... Its going to be my first Ferrari, so I wont pretend how the dealers work in the F world, but IMHO the explanation to me seemed a little vague at the atelier today..and felt like a small tweak to justify the gbp 5k price increase...then again its just an observation from a Ferrari newbie
Thanks Gary I think the problem here is the way Ferrari has gone about this, if they just said to there customers as of 2012 prices will be going up 4.5k and given some reason for it other than a upgrade which they have no choose about they might be ok with it? But my friend was told he would have to pay extra for his 2011 car that had a 2012 upgrade, he still has an issue with it!! I'm not sure most people would even notice the difference between the two? I wonder if the Spider has gone up since they were ordered?
Wanted to check with everyone if they have heard when this software upgrage on the 2011 models will be availabe in the US. Thanks.
I have had 2 dealers confirm this with FNA. No release date, but coming and will cost about $4,500 to get.
Gary, I was at Continental today picking up a new 458 with a friend and the service guy told me that he expects to get something from FNA on the "Upgrade" in the very near future. That is about all he could say. He was going to call me as soon as he gets the notice from FNA. I will let you know ASAIK.
