    Interesting!!

That's about half what Superformance wants for an entire rack!

I was going to post the same question this week! I am fairly sure I need either a new or rebuilt rack and am curious if these are any good.

It sounds like no-one here has tried them yet. The alternatives are a rebuilt rack from AW in NJ or a new pattern part from Superformance in the UK. But both are twice that price. Could the superformance rack be the same as the ones on ebay?

If I find I do need a new rack and no-one has any feedback on them, I'll buy one and see what its really like.

    Guys,

For steering racks look up the e-bay seller - Ferrari Overstock Parts (aka AW in NJ as Dave mentioned above). Really good prices and good staff. I'm just a past customer. My 308 got a new steering rack a few months ago.

To give good credit, this part was posted by Crowndog a few months ago on the CrossRef sticky.

I spoke with the fellow on the tele today @ buyautoparts. He reports they are new units manufactured by AN (I think that's the company, my notes are very messy). 3 year warranty, and he claims he's had no returns from unsatisfied customers. They will also sell you a remanufactured unit. The website has both prices. He honored his cheaper ebay price, with free shipping. I have a unit on the way for my GT4. I have always had very difficult steering - much harder than the Shadow/nowKananga GT4. We shall see...

I also ordered up some SRI fuel hose, and am searching for Hill tensioner bearings later tonight. The Ferrari is about to get some loving service.

After a little investigation found that they are made in China as the original Cam Gears, LTD. units are NLA.

Curious about the quality but the 3 year warranty is compelling.

i''ve ordered one too and will get a workshop to fit it along with some other jobs. Part of the benefit is to hand them a new part so they arent waiting for the turnaround on an exchange part. My rack is leaking everywhere and there is a lot of play.

will report back in due course.

Did anyone try the new rack. Was wondering what you thought of the quality. Looked up in the access panel and something leaketh. My guess would be the rack.

HA! I threw one in the dumpster this weekend!!! We don't sell them (or any 308 racks for that matter). It was left over from when we used to get them through a supplier in Italy. Quality was poor, at best.

For steering racks, why bother buying new? Use these guys: http://www.atlantic-ent.com/ They have plenty of Ferrari experience.

p.s. even the most complex power-steering racks we've sent them were rebuilt < $400. They stand behind their work too, should there ever be a problem.

I second that vote. Other than the obvious casting flaws, the fitment in the chassis was very poor. In the end, the old rack was rebuilt and re-installed. As we do a considerable amount of steering/front end work, a "new" rack was purchased in an effort to save both time and money. In the end, the old racks are rebuilt...and on we go.

I guess I can use the time while the rack is being rebuilt to clean and paint the a arms and replace the bushings. Thanks.

There are 3 different parties selling $300+ racks on eBay. I wonder if all are selling the same rack.

The price of a rebuild for a 308 rack from Atlantic is $498 plus shipping. They also sell new (not rebuilt) racks for the same price. They could not rebuild my original Camgears rack so I will eventually rebuild it myself using a Superformance quick ratio rack and pinion.

In the meantime I bought one of the eBay racks as a temporary solution. The build quality seems good. One obvious flaw is the groove in the case is half a mm too narrow for my brackets but that was fixed by enlargIMF the groove with a dremel.

Once the car is back on the road I'll feedback the driving impression.

I bought one two or three years ago with the plan of using it while rebuilding the original. It is still in the car, no problem with fitting it and no problem when driving. Some had problem when fitting, I did not.
Car: GT4, 1975. White, but that might be irrelevant...

Jim, my rack ( same seller) still fine after 3 odd years. I'll repeat earlier advice that i should have adjusted the small play before I fitted it. Might take it out this winter. Like Pero, the rack fitted perfectly on the gt4 and i used the later mounts you sold me.

They are the same company that I bought new, Brass, Bosch Fuel Injectors from. Came in Bosch boxes, stamped Bosch with the correct part numbers, etc. Priced under $20 per Injector, so I changed all 8. This was a few weeks ago and after looking at our thread, saw there were prices all over the place, from more than $200 per Injector to around $30. I stumbled on the company by chance and the price seemed right. Car runs great with them installed, so I would say that they supply reputable, good quality parts.
Maybe we have become used to paying high prices for "F" parts for years, so when we find reasonably priced parts, we are all instantly suspicious...?
If I remember correctly, the whole point of one of the Threads was finding reasonably priced alternative suppliers, manufacturers, etc. so that we humble 308 owners, could afford to run our cars everyday. Just a rhetorical question...? Comments..? Not trying to hijack the thread about Steering Racks Prices, just sharing my experiences with the same supplier, no skin in the game.
