Four lanes for 120,000 spectators? I hope that means that in both cases, at least three lanes are used to go into the circuit, and then they are reversed for the exit.
Why are there so many COTA pictures coming from the Statesmen? A cynic might say, 'If Austin is such a big-time city, there must be more interesting things going on'. You don't see construction cranes pictured in the New York Times with this frequency. Just a question.....
Another hint for 'stever': [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMk208Op1Jc[/ame] Sorry I could not resist lol..
They usually don't do much positive PR on the place. They don't cover much construction projects around here. From my home in south austin, to downtown, I probably can come across almost a dozen new projects under construction.... They don't cover much about COTA actually. I believe those pictures came off of the Statesmen's Facebook page. They did run an article in it today though.
EFA !! (Took us 5 hours to get out the car park in 1992 ! Last time I went was on a helicopter & even then it took over 2 hours queuing to get on the thing!)
get in touch W/Big Tex for heliports, motorhome and travel trailer pads,no charge for FerrariChat Members, other rentals available,no middle man.
I was thinking this is the only wise solution if lots of fchatters are concentrated in one remote spot.
Count me in for two seats. We will be coming from San Antonio, but heading north after the race, so a north meeting place would be preferred. Hope this can work out.
If you are going to be in San Antonio then you will not be far from Austin about 1.5-2hrs tops and then another 30-45mins to the eastside where the track is located. I would not count on an Fchat bus as mentioned from a Florida member because if such an expedition was formed going through San Antionio would add atleast another unnecessary 100-200 miles for them. As the event date gets closer and it is finalized that is when you need to start making preparation to either hookup with someone on a hotel suite or hookup with someone who has one of those huge bus/rv's or buy a tent and supplies and ask 'barnyard' to put your name on the list. I'm certain once the race is officially announced his property will fillup very fast but there will always be room for a fellow Fchat member, no member will be turned away is the way I look at it but I cannot speak without knowing his rules and regulations. This could be the Woodstock of F1 without all the drugs and nonsense (notice how I leftout the free love part lol). I don't know it was just a thought.
Don't worry about it too much. F-Chat has such pull in Texas that the very courteous Texan drivers move over to the shoulder for us, even further if you have 15+k posts. BHW
I'm not sure you read my first post on this subject carefully, but I appreciate the advice. I am aware of the layout. I saw the course on Dec 30 on my way back from the Alamo Bowl. We will stay in San Antonio the three nights before the race, drive up the morning of the 18th, and head north afterwards. I am looking into a charter bus. If I find something reasonable I will post the data and we'll see if we can get enough interest to swing something.
