FGT power is no longer supercar caliber? With all these stock GTs factory rated 550hp at the crank putting down 570hp at the rear wheels, I'm guessing they equal or exceed the ZR1. A simple pulley swap moves it even further ahead. Sorry, I just don't like Corvettes. Not to say they don't perform but they will always be a dime a dozen car. Then again, I sold my GT because it was just a bit too vanilla for me so there you have my perspective. What's coming together in my garage right now makes them both seem simply mundane and quite boring...

Actually the 550 HP was underrated due to the original Mustang Cobra Fiasco, the GT's should have been rated at 600 HP. With a few Accufab Mods these cars can put out 700 HP with no problem.

Luke, what did you get? Understand your aversion to Corvettes, but there a lot of guys here who like both. Me being one of them.

    Best,
    Tony

I was told when I bought the car new that it had 500hp. I just checked the specs and it says the same.

You can increase power as you point out. Mr Feind changed his supersharger pulley from the stock 15 psi to 23 psi. He said he was getting 874 hp. It sure made a difference.

The ZR1 in my view is alot more performance as are the new lambos and the 458 Ferrari. Technology does move on.

I love my Ford GT but it is really not that powerful compared to modern supercars. it is still a very fast car.

23psi with a pulley change? I don't believe that's possible. I could be wrong of course but my pulley changed yielded about 19psi max.

Today, in honor of the Hubbster and his new Ford GT purchase, I installed a wing or rather a spoiler on my '93 CRX. Cheers!

    Luke,

Ford offers several pulley configurations. You would have to talk to them, a dealer should know.

I did drive my freinds car with 874 hp and it was quite a difference in performance as you can imagine.

They also offer a short shifter modification and a more harmonic sounding exhaust. My freind did both of these.

I always keep my cars stock.

Lee, there are no pulley combinations from Ford using the stock charger that yield 800+hp. I suggest you visit the Ford GT forum to learn more about your car. I ran the FFRP straight headers for a more "harmonic" sound. It sounded great at full tilt but pales in comparison to that of my '93 CRX shown above.

Luke its weird to me to see so much zR1 hate. I also dislike the older vetted but man how can you not respect that car.

Question for you modded FGT owners. Do you think this takes value away from your car?

For me I'm not a mod guy. So when/if I buy one it would be stock. So in my book the stock cars will continue to gain value every time someone mods their's

What's your take or do people care?

I'm pretty involved in the GT community. I would say most mods don't decrease the value, barring something pretty out there. I think if done well, and by the right person/shop (very important) they add a little value over a stock car.

    Correct.

It would take a bigger blower, pulley, exhaust, and tune to reach the numbers Lee is talking about.

You may be right. The freinds FGT was much quicker than my stock FGT. He said 874 hp I did not ask him for the dyno validation.

I just called the Ford dealer that I bought the car from. My memory is they offered 3 pulley upgrades but to be honest my memory is fuzzy :) They are a dealer not a hot rod shop. The service manager was not there today

I will let the forum know what they tell me.

I am not really a member of the FGT comunity. I am surprised there is one since so few where made.

As said I always keep my cars stock. I think moded cars have less value at least for serious collectors. Some changes are okay like disk brakes etc.

For me that is so true I'd look at your car and never a Hennessey Vipered 1000hp beast. :)

Is the issue the 800 hp or that pulleys do not exist for more power?

I cannot defend the 800 hp. I had a Rousch P51A mustang and to support your point if I wanted alot more power I needed an updated screw supercharger. If I wanted 550 hp a pulley upgrade would do. The car stock was 510 hp.

I noticed you own a Boss mustang, congrats they are great cars. I just bought a 2012 Shelby mustang. Not very high tech but I love the car. It has 550 hp.

A smaller pulley and proper well done tune can yield 600 hp pretty easily (that is what mine did). Maybe one can squeeze out 650hp with a very aggressive tune, minimal exhaust and a few other factors. Any more really requires a Whipple S/C (I have one now) or Twin Turbo.

great to hear from you :) Health is doing well, thank you for asking. I hope you are doing well.

I just put the Ford GT back in the storage garage. I love that car! I use an excell spread sheet so each of my cars gets exercised. It takes about 3 months to cycle back to the FGT.

I am going to Mecum auction again this year. I have my eye on the XK 120 that goes on the block sat.

    Take care

We are bringing quite a few cars down to Mecum at Kissimee, FL. Although, I wont be there this year. Be on the lookout for Ken, I'm certain he will have a Lingenfelter hat/shirt on.

click HERE to see the cars we are bringing down (Minus the Supersnake, and insert a Continuation 427 side oiler Cobra.
