Link here: http://www.evansmotorsinc.com/inventory.aspx?mk=Ferrari&md=&lid=-1&newused=&exbs=&bs=&fromprice=-1&toprice=-1&keyword= The car belonged to Jennings Osbourne and has 1966 actual miles. I actually saw it in his garage 17 years ago. He bought it from Ferrari of Houston just to look at basically. It has never been serviced. Dealer is asking $43k. I am going down Saturday and give it a thorough look over. Even at Concours condition, what would the 308 expert collective say needs to be changed/worked on to make it a driveable car. I can come up with the following: Belts Fuel lines Window motors Piston O-rings Shocks Tires Any input / advise would be greatly appreciated. Vinny
Vince. since you're going to see the car, drive it and since you're interested on the car, get the service history and a PPI on it since you're paying premium price for it. Car looks good from the pics.
There is no service history. It's never been serviced, so I am skeptical on driving it. 26 years for the rubber to dry makes me a little gun shy. I don't want to be the guy who test drives it only to have the timing belt snap, or a fuel line rupture, and I wind up buying a usesless shell. I was thinking of taking a tonne of photos and posting here, getting some collective feedback, then if it seems appropriate get the PPI done and begin negotiations.
I think it's a fine car and no service history is OK because it hasnt even reached service mileage yet. Just know that you WILL need a belt service, fluids, many hoses and some other items Im sure.
Vince, Unfortunately, the trunk lid looks bent (at the support). Others can tell you what to deduct for that problem. Car sure doesn't seem very tidy for almost no miles, does it? Don't forget to inventory tool kit, jack, owner's manual and other books that go with the car. Those items are expensive, if and when they can be found. Good luck, though. Jeff
Just curious, ask if they kept the original window sticker price, it would be really nice to have it.
It may be that the lid isn't latched on the right as well as the doors not being all the way shut. Looks pretty nice to me.
I saw that too. You guys are great. not even an hour and you're giving me a ton of ammo and talking points to look at. Thanks
That bent on the front driver side hood is a very common thing for the 308 BUT, it's a very easy fix and the hood is not damage.
Not enough info. Too many open ended issues. E.g., paint may be crazed and/or leather may be brittle. Either would make engine service a secondary issue. What's up with the plenum? I'm also old-fashioned skeptical when odometer numbers don't align. Go look first and make a definitive list. You're probably aware that $43K is a high price for a GTS that clearly will need much add'l investment from lack of maintenance/use. That its being offered by a local used car dealer at a show car price strikes me as odd. Are you're looking for a car to drive or the concours circuit?
I dunno....quite a premium for a car which will take another $5K + to get back running and on the road. Plus, maybe the seats, etc will clean up -- but doesn't really look like what I'd expect for 1966 miles and then garaged. But then again, I've never seen a 1966 mile car which has been garaged. I recently helped a friend sell his 83 QV with 17k miles, Classiche cert, etc....absolutely mint...and it only garnered $36K in the current market. Plus, Vinny..... for my money, I'd rather have a car with a bit more use and maintenance. Its a risk even starting this car for a compression check. Who knows? Just let the dealer turn the key.
You could certainly be right, Mike, if it wasn't bent with enthusiasm. I saw a nasty bend on a QV trunk lid, bent and broken where the support strut attached to the lid. It was quite a bit more than a "curvature of the spine" situation. Maybe this one is not too bad, but definitely worth him looking at closely (and deducting accordingly). My guess is that with this car at a used car dealer's lot, they've already tried the quick and easy chiropractic fix.
I also noticed the spare looks to have been mounted and used with brake dust. The speedo is easy to swap for lower milage unit as well as the sending units fail. I truly believe that is why so many low milage cars on the market.
Thanks for all the replies. Yes, $43k is quite a premium, and not one I intend to pay. At a quick glance from everything I have learned here on the forum, I figure at least $7500 just to get her where I would be comfortable even turning the key (engine out service, all new rubber including tires, etc) and I would have to pay to trasnport her to a shop I trust, and that's only 140 miles away. I don't want to spend another $7500+ to bring the total up to $50k for a car worth $37k. but that's the logical side of me. My less than logical side has a habit of making decisions, which always turn out for the best. That's part of the reason I am going to post photos and findings from my review and see if I can get some honest, non-emotional feedback from the forum. Thanks guys.
I agree, that is not a "1,966 mile car". Even the interior looks dirty. Run from this one. You can find cars with approx. 15,000 miles in much more pristine shape.
The spare looks to have a different tread pattern than the four tires mounted on the car. All tires have a date code molded into them, check them and if the tires are not from 1985, the seller has some explaining to do on why he needed new tires with such low mileage.
Vince Hill is in Joplin (only 45 miles away) and he has an enclosed trailer). www.hillsexotic.com He has gone through mine with a fine tooth comb and should have her wrapped up this week. I had some rust repairs done during the rest of the service, so it took a lot longer than expected.
$43k is insane - Either the mileage is a lie or the pics are. You are much better off buying a 20-40K Mile car with meticulous maintenance records that has BEEN DRIVEN - for example http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=140922660#post140922660
tyre tread from road wheel to spare doesn't match-----------------1900mi?????? I'm just sayin, Lost I know nothing about the car !
