wow WOW this is good stuff. thanks for the photos Marcel & Joe !! Has this already been covered (or is it asking a bit too much?) : is there a list somewhere of every magazine (issue), cover or article, that reported on the 288 GTO?
I still have copies of these!! Was just going through them not long ago. Probably could find the Autosprint also, if I looked. Back in '85 while at the Fuji track, I bought a calendar (published by Car Graphic, I think) of stunning high quality B&W prints, 6 each of GTO and Testarossa. Looks to be the same setting as that cover pic.
Quick question for the experts...I saw a 288 GTO being serviced at a dealer last week and wondered, how many were imported to the US? I started scanning this thread but didn't see it...then again it's almost 300 pages
As Wade suggests, there wasn't a USA version, but, perhaps 60 different cars have been privately imported over the years, some 30 or so remaining here today. As the note Wade quoted also suggests, not every car was properly certified though, not that it matters very much any more 25 years later.
Hopefully quick question. I have been told that part way through production Ferrari changed the Turbo hoses on the 288 as the original ones where potentially a fire risk. They apparently didn't deem it serious enough to recall. My car apparently has the original style hoses and it's recommended I change. Has anyone heard of this? Is it correct?
Correct. Most cars that are regularly used & maintained have had these updated. Contact your Ferrari dealer.
Makes me alittle curious about the one I drove beside back in '85 or '86 but not that it really matters, I cherish that memory.
regarding the timing belts.... I bought my 288GTO here in the USA in 2005 with approx 1200 original KM on it (with a fresh belt service prior to my purchasing it)..i now have approx 3200KM on the car...It is stored in an heated and climate controlled garage....what say you all in ref. to a belt service on the car?? Thanks in advance.
Spotted in a London parking http://www.autogespot.com/nl/item/13014/spot-van-de-dag-ferrari-288-gto.html I wonder how long it will take before someone posts the serial number edit: the Lambo was spotted earlier and someone saw the GTO in the background, and specifically went there another day to see it, dedication! To be clear, the Lambo spotter posted only the Lambo pics as if he didn´t notice the GTO, he has the lack of knowledge. Someone saw the Lambo pic with the GTO in the background and went there to see and photograph the GTO, he has the dedication. Oops! It´s the same car, I even saved that earlier picture. As a favour in return, according to the Lewandowski book only the first prototype was carburetted. Also the 5th protoype, the infamous yellow GTO has the same raised section. Btw I ordered your Miura book yesterday, looking forward to get it and of course eagerly awaiting the GTO bible
