I drove my wife's California which is a brand new 2012 that is less than 1 month old. I was driving at about 60mph when the On board diagnostic system (OBD) came on with the little engine light that appeared and stayed on! Then it keep flashing engine power failure and to go to dealer. So at this time I turned around and started heading back home, when I gave it the gas it would only go so fast and when I pushed the accelerator down more than half way it had no power and it sounded like the noise from the exhaust was muffled or sick! After I got home I let the California sit for 2 hours then restarted it and drove it again and it was fine. I was wondering if there was anyone who could tell me why the car was doing this or if anyone has had similar problems. I would greatly appreciate any feedback i can get on this problem! Thanks

Mine has displayed various warning lights from time to time - normally stopping and restarting after a few seconds gets rid of it. I think it tends to happen if the battery charge is low. I drive mine as a daily driver so that limits the issues I've had. If you don't drive it that often, leave it on the trickle charger that comes in your car cover bag.

I had the same issues and it all went away after the first month. I took it to the dealer and they could not reproduce it. It has not happened since then ( October delivery ).

It has to be a sensor issue.

I had the same basic issue . I bought a engine computer from auto zone around $100 then cleared it and plugged in the charger over night . Have not had a problem since ...

Oh never thought of that, brilliant. The battery was too low. Jaguar actually pops in a new battery upon delivery.

limp mode (as it is commonly known as ) is what you were experiencing...been around for years, all cars equipped with computer management will revert to this mode when the computers sense some problem that does not require an immediate shut down. It is a way of avoiding possible serious damage and causing the car to full shut down and stranding it.
The owner's manual should have guidence for your car. Shutting the car down and restarting can recycle the computer, sometimes a wait is needed for cooling off to reset the computer, or as in most cases goinh home, then by morning all is reset and not to be an issue again.

Like all software gone nuts, a reboot is the best bet. I have had similar events in my BMW X5M. They eventually disappeared.

    Welcome to the digital age.

+1. Seen this with both this and 599 due to low battery voltage. The body processor (which is the computer at the heart of the whole electrical system) falls over and flags codes if it gets a low voltage.

My California had a brain fart one time as well. I started it and literally every warning light and every warning message came up in succession. I shut it off and restarted after about 30 seconds and it has been fine ever since.

On my 2012 I have had the cabin air system go full hot one time, and a week or so later (another 1400 miles :D) it went full cold. Both times as I remember I took the temp control full cold then full hot then back to the middle and it seemed to fix it.

    Anyone else?

    Me neither.

But, since my annual service, I have had the car refuse to start a couple times. The brake pedal didn't soften when I pressed it, and I had to turn the ignition off, wait a few seconds and remove and then reinsert the key each time. I connect the battery tender every time after I park in the garage. On those 2 occasions, i think it had been a week or two since the last time I drove. But after reinserting the key, the car fired up fine. Odd.

One time, but only ever once, I had all the lights stuck on and it was "stuck in gear" even with the engine off, it was in gear 1 and not P with the engine off

I removed the battery lead, one has a quick snap connector that does not even A tool to remove it and put it back on.

It cleared the issue and I drove away without needing to take it to the dealer

It's a "safety" mode, all newer cars with OBD have it. As someone stated above, it's probably just a dodgy sensor. Kicks in if your engine is running to hot on track, or anything that could seriously damage engine components.
