This is funny, I met up with some of my old old racing buddies from Spec. RX7 last night for some go-karting. They let me know the video of me hitting a tow truck 8 years ago in the rain was on YouTube. I had no idea and over the years had lost track of my file of the video. 75,000 views!

Wow that was quite a shunt. From the tone of your post it seems you were not hurt. Did the car just aquaplaned?

Why was the tow truck parked there?? :(

No ABS on the 1st gen RX7, just missed braking point in the rain and when I went off the old cliché the car feels like it accelerates on the wet grass.

Tow truck shouldn't have been there, 3 other cars had gone off in that exact spot previous 2 laps. It was his first day on the job, don't think he showed up for 2nd day. :)

140 comments! I don't have stomach to read them all, but 90% are fair and from experienced racers. A couple ricers said well why didn't you pull the E-brake, turn away, or use the brakes. I don't think they've ever gone off in the wet on slicks. :D

If you look on: TowTruckChat.com, this very clip is being discussed.

All of the posts are say something along the lines of:

" That RX7 shouldn't even have been heading in that direction! 3 cars had already tried it and it didn't work for them either!"

    (Sorry Rob, couldn't resist! :p )

Looks like someone else is not too happy:

Strange brew. For some reason Rob, I was thinking about this vid earlier today. I had asked for a definition of understeer, and you posted this vid.

    Small world, eh?

What a STUPID ASSED PLACE to leave a tow truck for God's sake. Glad you weren't hurt....

Never totaled a race car but did blow up a few engines and totaled a few MX bikes while racing for Kawasaki...........Could not use the e brake on them...........

    Fuel altered was mine,,,,,expensive mishap....
MX bike photo not really me but a very good example of what I was best known for.......And I did not race a Bultaco....

There's nothing like having a simple racing mistake posted on the Internets for the world to see.

I bet that wasn't fun. I remember being at Bertil Roos - I did the 5 day class at a time when I was out of work (long story). In the back of my mind was the statement about "you crash it, you pay for it" - stressful, considering I was unemployed, and I had a newborn child.

Well sure enough, I spun! I inhaled quite a bit of dirt / dust, and my ego was bruised, but thankfully the car was not damaged. The fear I had of either a) being hurt and/or b) the car getting damaged was enough to slow me down for the remainder of the day...not fun! :)

Glad you were ok and you can laugh about it.

sub-optimal truck location for sure. Would not be so funny in the 355CH.

That is why I generally prefer a car I can wad up & walk away from (most of the time, but I have judgment lapses)
