Countach, the ultimate supercar

Yes, I also think this is correct Joe! The car has the same restyled front bumper, and the red interior. The car was offered here in The Netherlands shortly before it was for sale in Germany.

Speaking of Mardikian SS Targa conversions, there are some more interseting things I noticed.

First, we have this car that was on the Mardikian brochure.
We see that that car is normal LHD, and has a light beige (Senape) interior.
Golden Bravo rims, US turning signal light, NO SS logo on sides near Bertone logo,
black inserted front signal light surrounding, normal front spoiler, BIG mirrors,
no paint in NACA duct in the door. Rear spoiler standards are painted black. But what is very also important, this car has still a part of the Periscopa roof visible.
I think this is the same car that was featured in the Road Test July 1980.
This was probably the car that inspired Rod Stewart to have his own LP400 converted by Mardikian later.

Ok, then we see this car.
This looks like the same car to me, but now the interior is redone in red, probably by or for Alpine to show off there latest Radio equipment. Antenna on the roof. We now see that the car has also SS badges on the sides, the wheels are painted silver now, and the front spoiler is gone as well, wich gives it a funny look. This is the Tim Meseke car #1120134. Now painted in black with red interior and in Germany. Ciao! Marcello

Here is the other Mardikian car.

This is a RHD car, originally Rosso/Tabacco, purchased by Rod Stewart in Australia.
This looks correct in the first picture that Joe provided to us here. (thanks!)
Second picture shows Rod in his Mardikian Targa SS converted car. Interior changed to white, but still RHD !! Marcel de Lange pictured this car in London May 1989. As we can see, the car is still RHD, and interior is still white. Please note that this car has a flat roof! No periscopa lines. Later the car popped up in France, and now it was converted to Left Hand Drive! Including the wiper that went from the left to the right side. Most likely the car was converted to LHD in Engand, because these folks would have the most experience in these things, making it easier to sell elsewhere, but that is just a wild guess.
Car is now with Autodrome in France, recently restored.

Hi guys,

I can't identify this heavily modified LP400, including huge front spoiler, side skirts, BIG wing etc. The pictures are from the Marchet-Coltrin book, that was printed in 1981!
In that case the 5000 badge was way ahead of it's time! Very strange!
In the book it reads that "the so-called 5000SS in America is home-modifed; the 5-litre engine is not to original factory specifications.
So was it really fitted with a 5 liter engine?
Don't tell me it's the original crash tested LP500. haha!!
Any suggestions/info ?

Yes it does, but that's probably after market, just like the dubble "SS".
Could this be #1120024, Achilli Motors modification to Countach SS, owned by John Mecom, USA?

 

If you look at the cars in the background this pic must been taken in Europe.

But what makes me scratching my head are thoose small "dots" above the turnsignal lights. Thoose "dots" looks like light washers that where requried in Sweden in the 70:s.

 

Look at the VW, it's a US spec Rabbit with big side markers and bumpers (rear bumper, it appears to be missing the front bumper). The others look like typical late 70s, early 80's Japanese cars, I think a Mazda GLC and a Toyota Corolla.

This "5000 SS" is obviously the product of more money that common sense, and I for one hope it has been restored to its original LP400 status.

Didn't the Spazzapan Countach have some sort of similarly radical wing? Although that car had/has a black interior.

It's an obscure dealer, way out in the Pacific Northwest somewhere I think, called Cats Exotics...

 

Wow. It does not say whether he would sell it for 600K (or less ?) in the US.

 

Considering how often during the restoration Roy told us he'd be keeping it, and not selling it, I would guess he wouldn't...

He'll sell it. It just a matter of time......they all sell at some point (dealers).

Amari take their Countachs seriously. I dare anyone to ask how much they want for this 300 mile Countach (this was Bill Loughran's car for many years from new - seen it before, amazing).
