I'm curious abouth the third pic and what seems to be a sound barrier/privacy wall?
I think its a retaining wall? I know.... and to think, summer hasn't even started, and they're already putting up buildings
About all this hoopla about the seats, I would like to share my personal experience from a decade ago. When the "return of F1 to USA" was announced I was not sure if I wanted to make the trip to Indianapolis from NY where I lived at the time. After an all night party, followed by a full day of work, my friend convinced me that going few days without sleep is not a big deal and we jumped in my car and drove to Indy non stop. We arrived there on Friday with the first practice underway, with no tickets, no parking and no place to sleep. This was the first F1 race on US soil for some time and everything was sold out. A guy on the corner in front of the entrance sold us tickets with $20 markup each. They were three day passes general admission. We enjoyed the race, had beers with fans from all over the world and had a blast overall. The next year I made the trip again, but this time it was nicely planed and prepared, not a last minute decision. I had really expensive seats on top of the grand stand on start-finish line. Boy, was I pissed. Next to me was a guy in his very expensive leather McLaren Jacket with his wife and two kids. She read a book most of the race, but of course decked out in Mercedes gear. The kids were not paying much attention to the race either and the guy was looking rather bored. When I went to get a beer, I received annoyed looks for bothering people to move and the line for the restroom was just ridiculous. Thank you, but no thank you. I am a real racing fan and I like the smell, noise and feel of the race. I like to be surrounded by other fans and experience the atmosphere of a fun event. Not be surrounded by showoffs, that bought the tickets, just because they can. I went to every F1 race in US since 2000 and every time bought three day general admission pass and had a blast sitting on a grassy knoll surrounded by cool people, with the beer stand right behind me, the restroom with barely any lines next to it, watching the cars from close enough to see the drivers sweat. And frankly, my plans for the Texas venue are exactly the same. Drive there and buy general admission tickets for me and my whole family. Roll on a blanket with my kids with a drink in my hand and exchange silly remarks with the fans from all over the place around me
Ironically, the back side of the pit/paddock complex sits below the infield entrance road and turn 18...or whatever is the third to last turn....
I have no idea what exactly the track and all the seating will look like and pretty much no one else can know for sure. At Indy the cars past by a mere 15-20 feet in front of us @$50 for the three days. In the snobstands where I had to pay $300 for raceday ticket, I definitely could have used binoculars, altho I don't think it would have made a difference since the little dots that were the cars in front of me past through there at 200mph. And if I have to be absolutely honest, the best seat for actually watching the race itself, is on my couch in front of the TV. But at home you can never recreate the excitement of the live event. And this same excitement , for me personally, is somewhat missing when not surrounded by the down to earth fans. Besides this does not happen in the grand stands, no matter how much you pay. Excellent and that is something that I want fro myself aswell. I think it would be a great idea if any and all Fchat members wore an Fchat shirt so we can easyily spot one another and possibley enjoy the race together. Heck is there even any Fchat merchandise sold?
I found that aswell in an old thread but it only led me back to the forum. but that is a good idea don't you think? FerrarChat.com in Rossa Red on the front with your boardname on the back. I'll check into this if you think it is worth persueing and if the forum does not want do it I know of a local custom t-shirt shop that does alot of business with local radio stations and such but if the forum could do it that would be easier for everyone and they reap a percentage of the sales.
Actually this has happened before. I don't remember if it was '05/6/7 but one of them there was actually even a scheduled meeting in a cigar bar, where quite few Fchat members and their spouses got together and we had some drinks and cigars and good time. At that meeting I got a polo shirt that was all red with ************ embroidered on the front. It was kind of big for me, but my wife took it and used to sleep with it for quite some time.
Yeah. I just attended only one time. I remember the cigar bar even had wooden cabinets with some Ferrari models in them. I can not remember the name of the place to save my live. By the way, why was my post modified/censored?
WOW! Very well put! We sat in the grand stands the first year also,it was a joke..The second year and every year there after we had handicap parking in the infield along the back straight.... so we would just set up a canopy tent and tailgate. one of the guy's had a master key to the golf carts for IMS so he would show up with a different cart all weekend. Good times, cant wait to do it all over again in Austin..
It's the man always trying to keep a brotha down!! BAZINGA!!! Nah the filter is rather sensitive but trying to circumvent it could lead to an unexpected vacation.
I would get banned for saying that I got a shirt with the forum's web address embroidered on the chest? Funny that.
http://austin.culturemap.com/newsdetail/01-24-12-23-45-f1-circuit-construction-way-behind-schedule-can-they-catch-up/ Here we go again. John Flood does some good work, its a balanced piece.
Some friends of mine have a 100 acre ranch 3 miles from the track. 2 story, 2 living room, 3 bed 3 bath. Lets say it sleeps 6. Horses and cows. Breakfast and dinner, personal chef. Van ride to and from the track. What is something like that worth per day, without gouging or underselling?
This is CRAZY as my buddy and I did te EXACT same thing! After a full day of work we were talking about the race the next day. It was about 9pm in Wisconsin. I lived in Madison and he lived an hour away in Milwaukee. I said "You know I could be packed and at your house by 10:30pm and we could drive straight through an be there before sunrise!". He agreed and I told the wife I was going to the races. She shook her head and said "alright. Have a safe drive!". We rolled into town after a few stops for food around 5:00am and slept in the car with the seats back and our legs hanging out the window. It was ridiculously hot and a fairly boring Schumi win. Then we drove back straight through to Wisconsin. We were exhausted but had memories that will last a lifetime.
backwards way to think about it IMO. Figure out what it will cost (the van, the driver, the chef, the food, cleaning crew, the inconvenience, the marketing, the risk that drunk renters will try to tip over cows and spook horses) and decide what that profit the effort is worth to whoever is executing the plan.
