    Watched many this week.

    1) Cowboys and Aliens. Pretty good popcorn movie. Basically exactly what I was expecting.

    2) Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It is very good, and for the first time I can remember a CGI character of a real creature is the most important character. I found it quite depressing in places, altough perhaps the point is to tell the "other side" of the Apes storyline.

    3) Troll Hunter. Goofy and silly with surprisingly effective special effects. I expected to hate but ended up watching it and really enjoying the movie.

    4) Contagion. Just OK. But the breakdown of society is certainly believable. Reminded me of I am Legend for some reason.

    5) Fargo. I had never watched this movie and to be honest don't really know what the big deal was about it when it was new. It is just OK. Darkly funny in places, annoying sometimes. At the end I just felt that I was glad it was over.

I have been looking forward to that movie.

I heard it was very good and since I saw the original when it cameout I don't nitpick.

If you did not 'get it' the first time around you never will.

    Drive.

I liked the opening car "chase" scene
I hated how Gosling would just stand there and NOTHING would happen for what felt like 30 seconds.
I liked the Albert Brooks character
I hated how stupid the writers were about the race car and Mustang chase scene.
I liked how Gosling was basically a good guy that did bad things
I hated the sleazeball garage owner whose character was poorly written.
    I liked the ending.

Overall I would say it was OK but completely forgettable.

The Artist - unexpected and fantastic. Perhaps the best new movie since Inception.

Watched King of New York last night. Definately old school I had never seen it before a bit cheesy but still good. Always get entertained by Chris Walken.

Ides of March - Not a fan of politics but this movie would give you a idea how things work.
The Help - This was a good movie
Columbiana - Not the best acting and directing but Zoe was very nice to look at. If some changes were made this would be a pretty good movie (more realistic).

Haywire. Entertaining. You'll love the girl that plays the lead - she is intoxicating.

Pretty short, but non stop action. I liked it.

The Help. Excellent movie, and for me, a southerner, a bit of time-travel.

The Gray - Very disappointed. I love Liam Neeson and the movie has some great 'action' scenes that leave you grabbing you seat but they wasted too many minutes with pseudo emotional parts that could have conveyed the same message if they were 10% as long. Plus THE scene i wanted to see never happens (In the trailer, when he is about to go fight the wolves)..

I've noticed that it is becoming more frequent. I saw Contraband a few weeks ago, and same thing. Scenes shown in trailer weren't in the movie.

Studios shouldn't be allowed to do such things, where's the line drawn?

Ghost In A Shell. Was curious to the Japanese anime genre, was told to start with this first. Wow, made in 1995, but an awesome movie. Would watch it again and again.

I Saw The Devil. HOLY ALL THAT IS HOLY! It's been ages since I saw a more raw movie than this one! It's Korean, it's extremely high quality (on par with USA's best), it sends chills down your spines again, again and again. Will NOT watch it again, so hardcore you think time and time again "did they just... They just did, huh?"...

Im really happy to see people here watching obscure films like Troll Hunter and I Saw The Devil.

The best movies being made today are indies like those and usually foreign (like those)

    +1

Just thinking back on some of the best movies I saw in the recent past, I would totally agree:

Baader Meinhoff Complex, The Runaways, Mesrine, Senna, Tinker Toy Soldier

Hollywood got the technology down to a T, but they don't spend enough time on writing interesting stories and scripts.

    Most recent movie I liked:

    Apollo 18

Everybody hated it and I can see why: It is not a slasher, but a somewhat realistic depiction of what could have happened. A movie made for space nerds, and today only few people are. Oh well.

Watch Akira.....the Grand daddy of Anime.

I highly recommend Ip Man 1 and 2 if you like Kung Fu flicks. About the master that trained Bruce Lee. Lot's of history in it, but some rather incredible stuff too. Excellent, excellent group of movies.
