So here is some food for thought and I would love some feedback and others thoughts. In the last 1/4 of last year just about EVERY car we sold went out of the country. Now to make this clear, I am speaking of the older Lambos and the like, not the mass re-production cars as the Gallardo or the Murcie. So for January 2012 we sold 14 cars and the trend is still there. One new outlet seems to be Australia for some of our Muscel cars, sent the 1967 Corvette there as well as a 1965 Malibu. As a lot of you know, I had three LM002 trucks, ALL have sold this month and ALL have left the country. As of this AM we sold our 1989 Anniv Countach, it as WELL is headed out of the Country. So, I see one of two things here.. 1) Will there be any CARS, good ones, left for the USA market...of course there will, but the amount and selection is being depleted. I really dont think you will see these cars coming back to the USA in any time soon. 2) Do you think or see this as a factor in the rise in prices of the remaing cars here in the USA. Is this maybe a back-handed gift to the owners or sellers of the cars remaing. It would seem to me it is ONLY a good factor of supply and demand and pricing structure. After all if there are less say LM trucks in the USA, it would only seem to make sense the remaining units increase in value?
It's all because of the weak US dollar. The cars here are cheap to begin with. Then add in the dollar diffence. The world is getting a deal.
I have not seen it with the standard Diablos, YES with the GT-R, it left and went to Japan. I have had very attractive offers for my 1996 SV-R #24 for out of the country, but it is JUST not for sale period, to much fun and memorys with that car..PLUS it is the USA Flag car, it would be treason to sell the USA Flag car out of the Country. The 2000 Diablo GT, car #74, that is a car I WONT let leave the USA as well, can never come back or be replaced.
Do you drive the GT often or is the reason you're selling it is because you don't drive it enough? Is the LP670-SV sold (the white one...)?
Agreed. My E-Type is probably worth $45K or so here. Over in the UK, a similar condition car is around 40K pounds (at current exchange, that's $63K USD). If I offered my car at $45K, then someone in the UK would be paying 28K pounds - a downright steal...and I still get FMV! I'm biting my lip for fear of banishing this thread to P&R, but I really wish it were the other way around!!!
Not yet. Hopefully, the Chinese, will soon be able to import classic cars. ____________ The price is set, by supply and demand. In the U.S., the price of the cars will increase, if the # of cars are significantly reduced. If an American collector must seek a car overseas, it will cost more money, to import the car into the USA - given the weak American currency. The weak American dollar, has prevented the importation, of more 25 year old (+), DD QV cars, into the U.S.A. The American collector, would have to pay more money for an elusive car, if the supply in the U.S., has been significantly reduced.
..................................................................................................it has to be helping the remaining cars here in the US hold or increase their value , the smaller amount of cars left here in the states are now more rare. with the LM , if more go to the UK or austraila to the point where there is one left here , How much would the last LM in the United States be worth? hows this title , '' For sale , the last remaining Lamborghini LM ''
Like anything else it is good and bad. Of course if there are less in the U.S. then the ones left behind will be worth more. Our inventory was huge to begin with because we (the U.S.) used to be the biggest market for these cars. Now we can't afford them and other countries can so off they go. Look at the "HUGE" 40th party Peter helped promote for the countach. FANTASTIC and i wish i was there, but it was nothing more (much less actually) than a simple countach club meeting in Japan. The only other countach near me that was regularly driven has already left for Japan. Red on tan, carbed, new brakes, 80grand! GONE!!! because everyone here only "talks" about buying one. I hate to see Americans hurting. I really hate it and i will never understand why the hell a country the size of Alabama (Greece) has such an effect on OUR market (among other things). They don't know what the hell they are doing, i say write them off and move on. Of course there are Many other problems but you get my drift.
Simple economics...same thing happened 30 years ago when we were shipping cars from europe when the dollar was strong. If these cars were that desired, Americans would buy them before they left.
Roy, from what i calculated, the USA had almost 1/2 the countach population. since the old lambos are now the cheapest here the flight abroad is normal. that said the price will equilibrate between the various countries. If one get out of line on the cheap side then the car will flight from it. It is insteresting Japan is so strong. their ecomomy is not that great. This is really the weak $ making the car here a bargain. IMO at the end : US car price = <country> car price - ship price - import tax cost. It is easy now to transit around these 20-30 year old cars. The biggest bidder wins. And Ken , its not Greece that did us in, its the Wall Steet geniusses that did not know when to reign in their greed. We have only us to blame. They almost make the bank system collapse
Sums it up pretty good I bought a lamborghini from sandiego and had it shipped to Toronto when our dollar was only 87cents three years ago and since then globally the Canadian dollar hasn't gone up much but now yours is par with ours... The world is looking to you now for cheap cars and you guys have always had most of them so the pickins are good Gary Espada 8394
If I may ask. If you really want or need to sell it and the right money shows up from wherever , will patriotism play into your decision? Gary Espada 8394
The US is hurting, and fewer of us can afford to buy, or even keep many toys. So my advice is try to keep your Lambo if you can, vote the aaaholes out of Washington DC this fall, and maybe we can try to rebuild our economy before we turn into an even bigger overtaxed bankrupt mess of a country. Until we can rebuild our economy, our dollar will remain weak, and our people won't be able to afford old Lambos. We need to reverse the trend of the past few years!!!!
