Better sounding (and better looking) than ANY car. That fly-by with the Spitfires and Mosquitos is superb. Put that on the big telly with the surround sound on. Mmmmm.... I have to disagree with you Blackjag on which type of Spitfire looks the best. I always felt that the bubble canopy ruined the lines as did the larger and pointier vertical tail. For mine the best looking will always be the "classic" MK V or MK IX, although it is true that some MK IX's did have the bubble canopy. Some also had clipped wings, for that matter, for a better low-level roll rate. Now that really DID ruin the lines! One of my greatest ambitions is to fly a real Spitfire, and one day I will. One of my others was to own a Ferrari. It took nearly forty years to achieve that. I really hope it doesn't take another forty to get to fly a Spit! MKIX Image Unavailable, Please Login
My stepfather spent the entire WW2 in London and then the rural areas as a teenager,he must have scene a lot during the battle of Britain.
On the one hand I certainly don't envy him if he was around London during the Blitz, but on the other it surely must have been the most extraordinary time to be alive. The Sea Fury is another lovely elliptical wing design, although without quite the grace of the Spitfire IMO. More brute force than finesse. Bit like the P-47 Thunderbolt in that regard.
Sea fury is a grunter. He reckons for a teenage boy,it was the best time of his life, including the house next store getting a direct hit!
The other thing that poeple forget about is just how much stuff was falling to the ground with an aerial battle going on overhead. Stray bullets and thousands of spent 303, 20mm cases falling to earth. A spent 20mm case falling on your head from 10,000 ft would just about knock you out.

Nico is not worried about recovery times but is working on running more wing next time. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pfffft. If I was an F1 driver I'd be arriving in real style. At least to the races in Europe, anyway... Image Unavailable, Please Login
