F456M: I was thinking the same, but maybe there are differences between the two interiors? And Markus obviously has to like the idea. The wife not liking it could be a biggie here too... :)
The 599 is a cool option too if money isn't the biggest obstacle, quite a different car.
A 430 is a blast but can for that reason be tiring on longer journeys.
Be careful with the testdrives! :D

    Absolutely! Thanks for the confirmation:)

Yes. I bought it in november 2009 with 8 000 km. I drove 25 000 and it now has/had 33 000 km. I had some great times with the car and really enjoyed it. It was my daily driver.

Will be a pleasure to me.

Now, that's a nice idea:) May be a bit costly...

    Unfortunately money does matter.
I also think that a 430 is not the car for long jouneys but for sure for fun drives.

I guess your shop will swap interiors at minimised charge considering the circumstances. It also depends on what the insurance will say, and who will be the owner of your 575 after the dust has cleared. The biggest issues would be whether there are differences or not between the two interiors, and that you or a future owner may not like that the car is not anymore as it originally left the factory. That said, I am sure a black car with a tan interior will find more fans than a black/black one.

Markus- As far as I know, there were virtually no changes to the interiors during 575M production. The only differences would be whether one had the HiFi option and the other did not. Other than that, just about all the pieces should be removable and interchangeable.

The 599 sounds like your best bet, because your wife will love the interior and plushness. With the 599's nearly indestructible dual plate clutch and updated Superfast F1 system, she can drive it in auto if she wants with no issues.

Is the dealership insurance covering the accident? I certainly hope so.

Atleast your tech is admitting it was his fault, and is not trying to spin some stupid lie on you. Respect to him.
It must not have been fun at all for him to make that phone call.

I hope you can eventually decide on a new car :D

Terry – Yes, I also think that there were no or just little changes to the interior. It’s not just the dash. The seats (might be no problem) and the whole rest of the interior (behind the seats, the roof etc.) would also be needed to be changed. I guess this is pretty much of work to do and probably not worth it.

The 599 is a nice “upgrade” but will cost me pretty much I guess. We did not talk about money yet. Next week the insurance will inspect the car. I hope that the car is covered by the dealership insurance but I am not sure at the moment. We will have to deal that during the next days and I will keep you up to date.

BTW: Maybe my wife is a bit different to other wives. She never drove an auto and always had manuals. She has a manual Cayman because it is more raw than the Ferrari. She thinks that the 575 is too soft and has too much power. Plus she does not like to show up in the Ferrari because of the comments of the people.

The stiffer ride is an argument for the 430. But not the louder sound. I think the 599 is an excellent DD and best suited for long journeys where the 430 is more fun but also more flashy.

We will find out during the next weeks (as soon as the weather gets warmer and the streets are dry) which of all the options will fit best for us. Plus we have to think about money. I guess that we will have to pay some additional money for an upgrade.

    Guten Morgen Markus,

I am sorry to hear what has happened with PS.

May I contribute to your decision:

    As a long term 575 driver, who changed from 575 to 599 and back to 575, I would suggest you n o t to take a 599 or a 430.

The 599 is "play station car" compared to the old fashioned and soulful 575. The 430 will make you miss the 12 cylinders for shure.

In order to have a alternative choice to 575s offered in Switzerland have a look as well to 575s offered in Germany, especially the ones offered with a price including VAT which could make you to save some additional money.

    Hey Markus,

    Oh My God!

I am really sorry to read of the bad news for your 575.

My thoughts would be simply, the f430 is a fun car, however it lacks the class of a V12 and long distance legs. I am sure that your wife won't find the HGTC suspension too soft and you could always add an exhaust to give it some more bite.

The 599 is a class act and would certainly be a great next step up again providing you don't mind spending the extra coin.

My condolences again and I will be keenly watching this space for your next vehicle!

    Best of luck,

    Aaron

Jimmy – Thank you for the hint with the German cars. I found a nice one here: http://www.autoscout24.de/Details.aspx?id=bdtenyttiwqq

GTC, 11/2005, 26 000 km (7 000 km less than mine), Ferrari approved with 2 years of warranty. That is better than mine was. The only things are the reacing seats and the seat belts. But I think it is a very easy job to put in the seats from my damaged car.

Your comment about the 599 is very interesting. Could you elaborate? Was the 599 “too perfect” with too many electronics? I once had a Maserati 3200 and moved to a Coupe GT. I did not like the newer car and was always thinking about my old car. Was it the same with you?

    Are you located in Germany?

Aaron – Thank you for your sympathies. I really appreciate all the kind words of the fellow Fchaters. I had a quite bad evening yesterday when I realized that there is a high probability I will have to spend some money to be happy again.

What about your EU-plans? The BBQ invitation is still valid and I hope that I will have a nice Ferrari again when you are visiting EU.

I also came from a chain of Maseratis starting with a 97 4porte, 99 3200 GT, 2003 4200 Coupe/2005 Spyder finally coming to the 2005 575 with Fiorano Handling Package.

I find the 575 (with Fiorano Handling Package) much better in handling than the 599 who tends to start jumping when hard and fast driven whereas the 575 FHP stays stable.

I don´t like the automatic gear change of the 599 in
manettino position "Sport", the set up in "Race" is too stiff. Where do you find in the daily life a flat surface like at the Hockenheim Ring where the "Race" set up is perfect ?

I like the heavy steering feel in the 575 more than the light steering in the 599.

Driving a 599 fast - as long as its goes straight on flat surfaces - is rather boring because of its a digital feeling, but this is a very personal view.

Entering and leaving a 599 is worse compared to procedure in the 575. In the 599 you sit much higher than in the 575.

Leather quality in 575 is better than in 599.

575 has better torque in the mid range revs than 599 and full consumption of the 599 is significantly higher even if not driven hard.

599 lives much from higher engine output and higher revs. Top speed of 599 is not much higher than the 575 if you have "training" on the german autobahn.

Brakes of the 599 are much much better that in 575.

    In the end:

Why don`t you consider to take a manual gate shifted 575 and to have it converted to GTC handling package with ceramic brakes.
    Its great.

By the way: If you consider to sell your "sad" 575 by yourself than ask for an offer from ATD Sportcars in Germany.

    Hey Markus,

I thank you for confirming the BBQ!

I like the black car, you would just have to trim the seats in the right color and think that the sports seats will look quite good.

If your buy this car, then we will have very similar cars for our drive......

Back to the 599, if it is out and out straight line performance then I suggest the 599, having stated this, speed is something that your body becomes accustomed too, therefore after time you would need to buy a faster car to get your next dose of power.

I think that there are far less 575's around and for this reason they are special when you see them, especially the HGTC.

    Regards

    Aaron

You know what the deal with the wife was to buy my 575M in 2009? I had to lose 10 kg first. The hard thing was not losing weight. I saw a beautiful 575 HGTC but still had 5.5 kg left to lose. When I lost the full 10 kg the car was sold to another person.

    Markus,

my wife - driving a Boxster has the
same attitude. She did not like the 599 at all and was as happy as me about the return to the 575.

Drive the manual you will love the
"klick - klack" of the gear change even it takes much longer compared to the F1 gearbox.

My insurance called me today: They will inspect my car tomorrow and will present me the figure they will pay for my wrecked car in about one week.

My insurance will then deal with the insurance of the shop and clear the whole issue for me. My insurance also confirmed that they will pay me the money and then subrogate against the insurance of the shop.

This sounds quite fine and the insurance guy was very helpful. Of course the big question is, how much money they will pay for the car and what other car will I get for that money. By middle or end of next week I should know.

I will keep you up to date.

    Dear Markus,
How awful to see your lovely 575M in such a shape. Like others have commented, I find your attitude most positive and and also totally gentlemanlike!!
Concerning a replacement; I don't know anything about your colour preferences, but there are 2 cars that did come to mind when reading your thread. I am sure I am biased, owning a manual 575M HGTC, but I would certainly consider the silver car that Eberlein has had for sale for quite a while. I never inspected the car myself, but it does seem interesting and nice. Another car that I DID inspect myself, is the red F1 HGTC that Motors in Modena has for sale. A late, well optioned car with low miles that looked really good when I saw it at their premises 4 months ago. It also is one of the lowest priced HGTC's around in Europe, I think.
Whichever choice you will make to replace your black 575, I wish you lots of happiness and health in it, together with your wife.
    Kind regards from Amsterdam,
    Michael

Michael – Thank you very much for the kind and warm words!

Thanks to the hint of Jimmy I searched not only in Switzerland but also in Germany and found this car: http://www.autoscout24.de/Details.aspx?id=ln4oxyjj3cqg&sbs=Home

This afternoon I went to Singen to test drive the car (575M F1 HGTC). Very friendly and helpful guys as stated by Jimmy and Peter.

The car is nearly the same as mine was (black/beige) but has some additional nice features:
    - HGTC
    - 11/2005 -- one of the late 575M (mine was 12/2003)
    - 26 000 km (mine had 33 000)
    - 2 years of warranty

So I went for the test drive and I was quite impressed:

The ride is much stiffer (stronger anti roll bars and stronger springs) and the car feels really well.

The sound is a different world! Where you don’t hear my stock exhaust, the HGTC exhaust sounds really great! There is a big difference in idle and at lower revs.

    The breaks are stunning (carbon).

The gearbox is different too (at least the software): The clutch engages earlier and slippage is much less than in my old car. In reverse gear the clutch engages at about 1 200 rpm where the clutch in my old car slipped at around 1 500 to 2 0000 rpm. I guess that this is the reason why the clutch readout says 10% used, so 90% left. I am not sure if this is because of the HGTC package or because the car is two years younger than mine.

Unfortunately it was very cold (-10 degrees) and I did not dare to drive fast or accelerate with full throttle in 2 nd gear.

The car with the factory fitted HGTC package is in a different league than my stock 575M was! I am really impressed.

The only thing I am unsure are the racing seats with the 4-point harness. Where the racing seats are quite cool, I am not sure about the seat belts. It takes longer time to engage and you have to adjust them every time a different person is driving the car. For 98% of all time I will drive the car but for the rest of the 2% you always have to readjust the seat belts.

Does anybody have (positive or negative) experience with 4-point harness? I am a bit unsure how they are in everyday use (for track days they are the way to go for sure but for all other days?).

Here are some pics from the website of the dealer and some I took this afternoon.
