I've seen this before........but what a great idea!

I'm going up on my roof today to install a couple hundred of them!

Why add the bleach? Why not just H2O?

 

I saw a report about that project before. The bleach is there to keep anything from growing in there. Otherwise, a bottle full of cozy warm water (due to the sun) would be full of algae and all kinds of bad stuff in no time.

 

To keep the water free of organisms like algae.

Solar ovens are supposed to be a major player in stopping deforestation where trees are cut to produce charcoal for cooking.
Basically reflective foil on cardboard.

 

That's cool.

 

This idea was very popular on older sailboats. They were called "deck prisms".

But, this is a cool trick for developing nations.

I worked with a guy back in the 70s that traveled to Africa to teach the locals about the "Solar Box".

 

Clever. Kinda makes you wonder why no one thought of it before.

 

I suspect to kill any algae that would bloom in the hot sunny water. Makes sense.
