We are building a house...everything is expensive...I get that. We finished designing our kitchen, each cabinet was about $500-600...it all Adds up.

We get to the part where we get to pick the hood that goes over the stove...

Its slabs of oak/maple/or cherry. Probably $50 in materials. Includes a stainless steel liner, another 10$, and a $150 vent fan... This is by no means a work of art...very basic wood hood.

    Cost?

$2800??!!!?!??!?! What the heck!!! We called 4-5 places, its all the same. "Its an investment in your home... They are custom made... yada yada."

Thats the price of a cheap used car! A huge digital TV... A really decent range... eek.

Went on line, can order a much nicer hood for $1300. But, no one will stain it and guarantee it matches the cabinets...so wife won't go for it.

What items have you bought, that were ridiculously overpriced, yet you HAD to buy them??

Fertility drugs for my wife when were trying to conceive.

None of it was covered by insurance. Each little ampule of gonadotropin was $550.

One per day (IIRC 8 days in a row). Break the ampule top, suck up the liquid, inject. There goes $550.

I paid $4000 above Sticker for my new 2007 Cadillac Escalade.
That was when the car was brand new and just introducted at the superbowl.

...Yup .... I know....Dumb...dumb...dumb...But I thought it was well worth it since other dealers were asking $6,000 above sticker.

$60,000 cash for an Infiniti which was worth half 1.5 years later. I guess that's not as bad as some Ferrari purchases on this board, but to me it was a life lesson I've never forgot. I did however drive the piss out of that thing before I traded it in :)

How about a F1 shift actuator for $16,700? Does that count? It fits in the palm of my hands...

    Tickets w/ student discount - $6.

    Parking - ~$12

I could have gone back home and rode the lightrail for $3.25 round trip instead of paying $12 for parking.

Nope, three months of artificial insemination with the drugs, and one month of full blown in vitro. About $20k in those four months.

We adopted the next year and never looked back.

No, but it was the most smart azzed thing I could come up with at the time. Should have bought four more of their ties for the same price instead. At least I wear the ones I already have.
