I believe it is being shown any moment now. Pics coming shortly
The moment everyone has been waiting for...what can Red Bull do? a 3rd year of great success will be something of a serious accomplishment...
RB8 has taken the step on the nose a step further in terms of ugliness. The step in the nose stalls any disrupted airflow in that area. Doesn't really make a difference in that area. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I envy Red Bull. I knew RB8 would be a subtle evolution of RB7. Why? Because they don't need to reinvent the wheel on this one. The others are coming after them though........ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Considering the speed of the Mclaren late last season I'm not sure I agree...Unless you're saying that the RB7 was merely playing with them after they won the championships?
Not at all. Red Bull had to fight for their wins harder than ever. The problem with this season is Mclaren had to reinvent the wheel due to the changes this year which may cause teething issues at the beginning, at least until they figure out what the car wants to do.
more on the nose. I believe the exhaust is where RB6 had its exhaust. searching for a better pic Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agree, but F1 cars stopped looking good with the large front/small rear wings IMHO. Form must follow function when playing in this league......
I'm not really sure I fully understand what Red Bull is up to here. They lost their key element to their design concept, which was of course the RB7 EBD which was a technology no one fully grasped to their potential. Now we have RB8 which is nothing radically different other than RB7 without the EBD and a funky nose. What testing this week is going to really show everyone is just how powerful Red Bull's understanding of the EBD was and just how much they gained from it. I fully believe the playing field is no longer in their favor with this car and I expected something very different from them to accomodate for this major change especially with Mcl, Ferrari, and everyone else going after them.
And here we go, my expectations I set at the end of last season are vindicated. Newey was quoted as saying biggest problem was not being able to run a (relatively) high rear ride height because of the ban on the EBD. This in turn changes the Red Bull paradigm.
I don't understand, why does RB seem to be the only team to add extra wings to the nose? (extra downforce for sure). Ferrari doesn't have it, neither do any of the other teams we've seen unveil their cars so far. Definately looks better than the Lego-brick nose of the F2012. Why doesn't the F2012 have a rounded nose like the MP4-27A or RB8?
I'm not 100% sure I get your meaning on this. Ferrari doesn't need a rounded area at the nose, they just need (and it appears wanted) as much area under the nose as possible which I believe they have achieved. Regardless, I believe Ferrari's chances just got a whole lot better with RB8. Not impressed with Red Bull's latest
I was just thinking about the basic concept that a circle has a better aerodynamic profile than a square? A square will 'hit/ram' the air much more that a rounded shape I guess. I'm no aerodynamisicist or engineer though... But I'm still wondering, why aren't more teams adding wings to the nose?
Balance probably. Can't add more to the front without knowing what the back is capable of. I believe the RB8 is going to have a very slippery rear end. Sauber has the right idea with their exhaust. Their car is neat, tidy, and traditional 2012 regs car. Where they have the exhaust is just right though Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
