I have a friend here in Arlington, Texas who is good friends with the President of the motorcycle side of BMW. Every other year they make trips back and forth between Germany and the US. When he comes to the US they take a two week long bike trip and the same when my friend goes to Germany......They have been doing it for about 15 years...... My friend has quite a collection of all kinds of bikes dating back to a 1917 Harley. Many BMW, classic Triumph, Norton and BSA thumpers. Several H/D desert warfare bikes with sidecars including one German one with a working machine gun (yes he has a license and permit to have the operative machine gun), I have some pictures somewhere if I can find them. He has a large log cabin in Colorado and has a BMW cycle of 50 something vintage on a large shelf extending out over the pool table in the rec room. He uses a BMW flag flown over the world headquarters as a cover for the pool table......He has had many, many BMW cars over the years and received the first Z8 in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
We never received the four cylinder 5 or 7 Series cars in the US. However we did get the 524td, turbo diesel, which did pretty well. Not in sales but in performance. I love how the older cars feel. Rock solid and very predictable. I could drive my ix anywhere. Have fun with yours......
I got rid of my last BMW in about seven months ago. 1986 325 sedan....Had over 320k miles on it when the engine gave up. I would love to have one of the M3 models back.........especially the 1988 Henna Red one........4 cylinder, 2.3 liter, 192 hp and a real roller skate to drive....Man I loved that car.....And I did not find out until later that the first 50 cars off the production line were Henna Red and that was it........And I had one of the first 50 and let it go.......dumb move on my part...... http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z9575/BMW-M3-E30.aspx
Just bought 2 more BMW's. A 2003 e39 530i and a 2001 e46 320i......neither as good as my M3 but then bought them both for 1/3 of what I sold the M3 for.....maybe not so good for me personally but great deal for the family (3 of 4 kids driving cars)
Damn it... you guys are making me wish I could afford to repair and paint my M5. Argh! Anyone want to donate to the Bill Wants To Paint His M5 Find? Shiny Side Up! Bill Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good looking M5... I would really loved to get hold of a E28 (first generation) M5 and keep it forever. No driver enthusiasts garage is really complete without a M-car...
Impressive background...yours? Speaking of BMWs, I wouldn't mind having an ultra-nice automatic 635CSi as a DD. Loved my old one.
It was until mother nature did her thing to it. I have a fender, sunroof, trunk lid, and hood for it (got to love hail damage), but no place to paint it... soon I hope. Shiny Side Up! Bill
No I wish This is a historic building here in Toronto now called the Liberty Grand (used to be the Carlsberg Building). It is down by the lake and used for all kinds of snazzy events. I aint no pro but I have shot alot of cars in front of its doors for over a decade. Shows decent! The car was now fitted with the original 17'' bbs wheels which look event better. However id like to get the M-parallel alloys.
Two nice looking ones on Ebay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1987-BMW-L6-635-CSI-RARE-FIND-If-You-Love-Model-Check-One-Out-/270904703455?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f132db9df http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-BMW-635CSI-COUPE-GORGEOUS-CAR-ONLY-48-079-MILES-/190636617244?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2c62d3ee1c Shiny Side Up! Couldn't help asking. I worked on a few houses for private clients that were nearly as impressive. There are several houses here that I use as favorite backgrounds for car pics. Mine's quite modest. The silver blue one is really nice. I'd put the original wheels back on.
I have a question about high mileage BMWs.. Does really high mileage effect higher end cars to where they're undriveable? I've found a great looking 2004 M3 in a stunning blue at a great price, but it has 190k on the odometer. What kind of problems can be expected out of a car like this? Car in question http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/2837445078.html Thanks in advance! - Luke
here's an odd question-does anyone know of a good bmw mechanic in manhattan (new york) or nearby, who could service my M1? i'm ALWAYS hunting for good mechanics! thanks! phil Image Unavailable, Please Login
Like a Ferrari service records are important here. That is a lot of miles for any car but a BMW will go well past that number if maintained. If it has really been owned by a 53 yo man then he should have records. IIRC Laguna Blue is a pretty rare color for that car and my favorite as well. I wouldn't rule it out based on mileage but if it's your DD I would pick something else.
I have a '06 325i RWD with over 100K miles....my daughter just received her license and I'm looking for a CPO X3 for her...have to say I'm disappointed that BMW is going the turbo route with the new 328-N/A straight 6 was their bread and butter motor and very reliable. Only N/A German sedan in that size class is the C-class....may have to look at an Infiniti G down the road if I buy new, or possibly the new Caddy ATS... Next year's X3 will have the turbo four also....
^ I know, just turbo 3-series in the coming generation One moment of silence for the BMW naturally aspirated straight six... They could have made the M3 CSL with a stick, or the 1M Coupé with a naturally aspirated straight six... Sigh... I would have bought a car like that in an instant...
