Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

In a minute SRTMike will come in to explain how construction scheduling works......

Owners like Red do tend to think in terms of total dollars spent but that is not always accurate as there is a big lump of special systems at the end of facilities like this, sound and data can be as big as the dirtwork and structure, more often in indoor arenas.

Electronics here while a big part will not have the high value of say, a stadium sound system.

    IMO only of course.....I don't know much about it....:D :D :D

Not redundant one bit. I thought an address was posted but wait a minute and you will get an answer.

Oh, I didn't take them, merely reposted them. Been meaning to go out to the track lately but I haven't found the time to.

Have you seen the live webcam yet?

Until it got struck by lightning, it had been up for almost 100 hours straight. Not bad for a computer running windows vista :)

I just want to see some asphalt being laid. They can build all the stands and pit complexes they want, but without a track, there aint going to be no racin'.

+1, I have faith in the great state of Texas.....and the ability of spending absurd amounts of $ to get this done.

Hardly, the backers are spending absurd amount of their own money, not other people's money...... The money from the State is coming to pay the Bernie fees, and if the tax revenues aren't sufficient to cover their outlay, there are numerous clawback provisions for the State to get their money back....

On a side note, BigTex was right about the prefab....

Never seen a crane like this before :)

I got an email that Monday is the last day for the preferred ticket bit.

And, at least now there were some answers to what you get for your 100 bucks.

I'm debating... I still don't think getting good tickets will be a problem all the way up until Nov.

The way the F car is running in tests, I'm not sure I want to see them finish behind the Virgins. :)

+1 and agreed. Obama could learn something from the private sector....imagine how much stimulus could have happened without prevailing wages being paid. The effect is far greater when multiple families benefit from the additional employment, and our infrastructure could have used a nice shot in the arm as well. Hat's off to Austin for even trying to make this happen, at least a few of these guys had the balls to try, so many naysayers here could not even dream this big.

took a look at the track about 10 days ago.....

while the buildings appear to have a long way to go---I do believe that the track will be ready for the race and I believe it will be well received. If the track is the highest priority, then their priorities are in order.

Turn one will be amazing. The track ramps from a level surface to about a 5 to 6 story climb as you reach the first corner---not a hairpin, but more than a 90 degree left turn. The hillside at turn one should be a great spot to view the race, you can actually see downtown Austin from the area as well.
