    There's a checkbox in the User Options under 'Messaging & Notification' that says:

    "Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default"

    Go enable that for next time.

    We may not like to see a damaged F50 but with all the history on this car it is nice to know what its current status is.

    +1, nice to know the next chapter in this F50's life. I for one would love to see it resurrected and thrashed in all its glory, not for profit or deceitful representation, but simply to enjoy the song of its engine and the "jollies" of the ride it gave :) :)

    That had a lot to do with the passion of the owner. Maybe this F50 will find an owner who intends to make it "MMF50".

    Except in this case the tub is composite, one of the first composite tub cars ever built. I do agree everything can be fixed it's just how willing the person that is doing the repairs is. The engine and front end attach to this tub making it a structurally integrated composite part if the car, meaning usually if it's more than cosmetic damage the peace has lost it's structural integrity and needs to be replaced.

    You break the back 1/3 off for the engine service anyway!

    Pay no attention to him fellas, he hasn't taken his meds today, he's not feeling well. The car is a total loss, yeah that's it, it isn't worth even bidding on it. Yeah. Um. Like anyone who bids more than $5 on this is nuts. It'll cost like a gazillion trillion zillion dollars to fix it. Yeah that's it a zillion dollars, a total loss, a whole new tub, not even worth the effort. Yeah, yeah, that's it.

    So when is the auction? Not like anyone would bid on it or anything, but just to take a look.

    Anyone have a guesstimate at the cost of fabricating a new tub from modern carbon fiber?

    Just take the old mold and have Pagani cook up a new carbo-tanium masterpiece. No more worries about factory recommendations for "replacing the tub" after every X years.

    Think about it--driving a dynamically brand new (ala up to modern supercar standards) F50 till its wheels fall off.

    How baller would that be??

    Can you imagine the noises from the hardline purists if someone were to have a new tub made by anyone but Ferrari? I believe their word would be "DISGRACE"...

    This actually maybe could work out.

    If the car could be bought for $300k, put in $150k for repairs to make it right (replace if tub if cracked) and you end up with a $450k F50.

    It's not like no one knows what this car is. It's the most "storied" F50 ever, maybe the most storied Ferrari road car ever. :)

    Heck, don't all the tubs on those babies have to be replaced soon? If someone is willing to spend some cash in repairs, this could turn out well.

    Yes, obvious total loss. A gazillion dollars to fix it. Can't understand why anybody would want to bid on it. Should be buried or destroyed so nobody is tempted. As a public service, I will volunteer to destroy it. I'll need a few contributions from purists who don't want the marque sullied by a less-than-perfect car.......

    it can be repaired. it will cost a lot to do so. you will then be able to drive it to your heart's content.
    but, you will not necessarily be able to sell it for what you have in it - which will be a sizeable chunk of change. so the dreamers can all chase this one, get into it for a few hundred grand, but they should never expect to see that money again.

    why do i say that? because i could afford to buy an f50 for 300k when market value for a good one is 2-3 times that...but would i buy yours? unlikely. why would i want to park my money in a very shaky investment, when i could just either buy something else with upside and/or pony up and buy a well sorted f50.

    the re-sale on this baby is extremely doubtful. thats why its on copart...

    It's on Copart because that's how the process works here. Most people will NEVER get out of ANY car for what they have in it. For the right person, this will have nothing to do with financial ROI, it will be because of emotion and the story behind it as mentioned before. You want an investment, buy AAPL but looking at this F50, even in it's present state turns me on more than anyones Fidelity statement. lol... Just my opinion but once repaired, I believe this car will ALWAYS be worth 70% or more of whatever the current F50 market rate is. So if you get into it right, what's the difference? There really is none. Real estate & 401k's have both been slammed harder than that. It's better odds than Vegas and I could only imagine, MUCH more fun...

    In 1997 I was looking to buy a 308. It came down to 2 cars. An 85 with 23k miles and damage to the front and a pristine 85 308GTSi (Euro) it had 12k miles on it. I bought the pristine car (but not with ANY intention of resale value). I had the car serviced and drove it everywhere for 3 years but I always worried about the car and where I parked it. Afraid of door dings, scratches or whatever. Looking back, the other car would have been just as nice and I would have a lot less wrinkles from not having to cringe everytime an object, animal or child got close to the car because it had already lost it's "virginity". Not saying that my way of thinking is better than anyone elses, just trying to add a different perspective.

    And last but certainly not least..When showing up at the local meet, and asked about YOUR car, what story would be coolest to tell? "Yeah, I just walked up, wrote a check and she's all mine and hopefully she'll make me a few dollars." or "Pull up a chair, you are seriously not going to believe this.... it all started when ...."

    It almost certainly has structural damage to the tub. The company that made the tubs went broke, so unless there is a tub at Ferrari...............

    Insurance companies are BIG business and they are neither stupid nor inexperienced. Want to bet that they haven't checked on the tub and its availability?
    Someone will overpay for it and they will find that fixing an F50 cheaply is not the same deal as bodging up a bent Camaro and passing it on to some unsuspecting sucker. Even if it were fixed, this car has a rep that will forever destroy its resale. Someone is going to have a very painful learning curve with this car!
