458 Battery conditioner lead route

    Just got my 458 home last week, snows came, so wired it upto the conditioner in the garage. Looked in the manual and I tried to get the lead to go out under the door, but struggled with this, from the pic in the manual I cannot tell if the lead goes out under the hinged side of the door or the opposite end. I just lowered my window on passenger side slightly and fed it through there.
    Am I being thick here, I presume there must be an obvious route somewhere for the cable to allow shutting the door, but the gaps all look really narrow round the door & the cable is quite thick

    I just plugged mine in yesterday. Connect the lead under the passnger side dash and place the cord along the very front, bottom section of the passenger side door. As you close the door slowly pull the cord further along the bottom of the door. The door will close and the cord will pop into a slight depression made for it. Plug in into a socket and you're done.

    Cheers...so the lead actually comes out the front gap on the door then, ie by the front wheel....the diagram in the owners manual is rubbish then, looked like it came out under the far edge of the door ie closest to the back wheel, no wonder I couldnt figure it out.
    To be fair to me, I was in dusk light, in a rush being nagged by the Mrs, so didnt give it much attention

    Actually just back from a 6 wk tour of aus, loved it.

    Took my battery tender off, for the first time yesterday and it was all the way forward in the small circular depression under the passenger door. As you open the door it appears to be wedged in that depression. I had to close the door part way, move the cord back several inches and then take the cord out from the bottom of the door. Might be better not to place it that far forward next time.

    just checking Rod, do you place the battery conditioner inside the car and run the slimmer cable through the passenger door sill gap or do you leave the battery conditioner outside the car and run the thicker lead through the door sill gap. I do the former and whilst I know the manual says the battery conditioner should be placed outside the car, doing it the other way is so much easier.

    I place the conditioner outside the car and it doesn't seem to be damaged by closing the door. I'll take a look at you way next time. Thanks. Can't use an open window because using car cover would press the tender or cord against the paint.

    I know this isn't the most elegant way to connect the battery conditioner to the car but it still allows you to fit the car cover on whilst protecting the paint work from the loose cord by using a large micro fibre cloth. Running the cord through the window option works for me.

    That's the way I run my charger. I never use a car cover as my garage is sealed pretty well from the wind and dust.

    The reason why I need a car cover is the fly or spider poo, never sure which it is, but over here in the UK my garage seems to get quite a lot of spiders & flys, and they leave little black dots all over everything that get quite solidly attached to paintwork, hence the need for a cover. Never quite got to the bottom of the black dots, but as I say led to believe they are out of spiders or flys
    I think the window route works well anyway, always leave my windows down quarter of an inch anyway for a kinder life to the window seal rubbers

    I live in the middle of an old and new growth forest, about 300 acres. I use a Carcoon to keep spiders, flys, wasps, tree frogs, mice, wood rats and everything else that you find in the middle of a forest from getting in to or on my Ferraris. Yes it is in a climate controlled garage but you can't keep everything out all the time, at least I haven't figured out how to do it. And besides the Carcoon also prevents dust from getting on the car or the car cover, you may notice a fine dust on your car if all you do is put a car cover on it and let it sit for a good while. And you may also find that the occasional spider, fly, tree frog, mouse, or critter can get under your car cover....... well you get the idea:)

    I just run the battery tender wire thru the passenger door at the bottom front of the door and then I run the wire outside the Carcoon thru the zipper opening. Car stays charged and comes out of the Carcoon looking exactly like it did when it was put in, no dust and no critters:)
