Must say I'm leaning to John here. He makes some very valid statements. We must also remind ourselves that the Brawn team, former sucky honda and very much downsized through the year did beat Ferrari, quite convincingly, in 2009. So to say that Mercedes will not beat Ferrari this year (or ever) is quite silly, really. They are not Gods and all signs point to the car not being terribly stable...Aerodynamically it may be superior but if the driver has no confidence, it counts for nothing.
Very true. A "garagiste" team beat Ferrari. As have McLaren, Benetton, Williams, Tyrrell and others over the years. But: Mercedes is neither Brawn F1 nor a "garagiste". Wanna bet? Beating to be defined in WCC points at the end of the season. Can even be a long standing bet. At least as long as the board of MB doesn't pull the plug. Couldn't agree more.
The WDC has been around since the start...I think that does. The WCC came along later, like many said, as a "consolation prize" of sorts.
Well, if there are more takers then there are more takers! Ferraripilot, bragging rights sounds like a deal then. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see MS in a car even as competitive as the F10 or 150 Italia but I can't see it happening this year.
Also true. Botswana (or anywhere in Africa) don't have online booze shops, but I'll be in the states & Europe next year a couple of times so if we cross paths (we'll organise!) the loser pays the bar tab , in the mean time, bragging rights and avatar choice for a full month.
I love your 'bets' and posts that have no technical rhyme or reason. Your conjecture on F1 subject matter relies on what some offshoot media forum has to say which for some reason no one else knows about. Good luck with that. Meanwhile back in reality land, MB is run by an all-star group given carte blanche by Daimler to make a winning team headed by the most winning director of ALL TIME. W03 and Mercedes are the scare of the field. This is not according to me or some other chatter, this is according to those IN the game. Do a search. And please, don't act like Ferrari don't have a board to answer to, it undermines your intelligence. If anything, Ferrari's 'win or die' scare tactics make them the most terrifying board of the field. Don't be a troll my man. RB took 5 years to win, and they did. Ferrari took 5 years to win, and they did, big time. Mercedes will take a few years to get there, and they will, if not this year then very soon after. And the Mercedes/Daimler employees love having a team headed by the best in the business. Give me a break Tifosi12, your posts are getting old and obvious. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jaguar and Toyota had tons of money and a big manufacturer supporting them and didn´t make it. And all the super-stars fall into decline sooner or later. Who knows, nothing is granted in this life.
+1 While many fans remember the WDC's rather than the WCC's to the teams it's very important. Firstly, it largely determines who gets what amount of Bernie money which remains important to them all. [With the arguable exception of Ferrari.] Lotus (Caterham) finishing 10th (albeit pointless) was a *huge* deal to 'em for example. Just look at all of their pre-season releases; "We want to finish in the midfield" "We want to improve from fourth" "We want to......" They don't talk about individual drivers very much at all - Finishing position in the WCC is important to them and a lot more than a consolation prize IMO. Cheers, Ian
Those teams were run by, shall we say, less than premium quality than what MB has now. By a long shot.
Sure the WCC is important to teams, particularly for the $$$ for the smaller ones but the ultimate prize in Formula One is the WDC, simple as that. It IS more important, no matter what you say. I'm sure HRT want to finish 11th or Force India finish 4th, does that mean that anyone gives a crap? Yes, fans see the WCC as a consolation prize, whereas the WDC is extremely coveted by teams AND fans alike. What does that say to you?
Doesn't look like an illusion to me: https://twitter.com/#!/ScarbsF1/media/slideshow?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FKhan_F1%2Fstatus%2F167704323424399361%2Fphoto%2F1 https://twitter.com/#!/ScarbsF1/media/slideshow?url=http%3A%2F%2Fyfrog.com%2Fob1rjikj
Now there is a scary thought: I'm sure you'd force me to put a MS avatar on there. Probably even in a MB. Yikes! That's an enormous risk, but I'm game. PS: Did you consider the consequences for you? And no, I wouldn't pick Alonso. Something worse, like say the Partridge Family. Or Boy George.
Not to give anyone ideas but how about an April Fools gift from Rob where we can substitute someone's avatar for a day?
