New Ferrari strategy:

Following the immense posts and intense analysis of their fans, Ferrari acknowledged that 2012 season too is nothing but a waste year, so they confirmed they have already shifted their focus on 2004 car to remember that they can build fast cars.

Since the big rule changes in 2009, the Maranello squad haven’t quite managed to get the bottom of new rules to create a world beater. After narrowly missing out in 2010 drivers’ title, 2011 saw another disappointment campaign for both Tifosi and Ferrari as they seemed to be third fastest car throughout the season.

“We know we can produce fast cars,” said Domenicalli, “it’s just we have to remember how to do it. In the lights of latest development, we understand we haven’t got the car we needed to fight for the championship. It’s a pity but we accept that.

“Nearly all twitter acounts, all forum members and armchair experts did agree on that, so we have to look into that. They must know something. Therefore, we stopped any development work on this year car and shifted our focus to our 2004 car to understand how the hell we made such a beast.”

F2004 is widely accepted to be the fastest car of new generation F1 cars. Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barichello won 15 out 18 races between them, 13 of which belong to Michael Schumacher. It was the car in which Schumacher claimed his last and seventh drivers’ title.

“I sometimes sit and watch 2004 season to remember those glarious days,” added team principle. “For sure we want to build a car similar to that one. F2004 had wings and wheels too, so it shouldn’t be a problem. What we have to do is to go back to factory and analyse F2004. If we can find anyone who remembers what we did at that time, for sure we’ll be able to replicate it in 2013.”

Fernando Alonso is upbeat about the team’s decision.

“We are used to do that and I admit we are very good,” asked if he believes Ferrari is superior when it comes to shifting focuses. “Since I joined the team, we shifted our focuses two times now and we are doing it again. It’s the best focus I’ve ever seen in my entire career. So it should be OK. I’ll be a Ferrari champion even if I turn to 65. I’ll do it, damn it!”

What a F'd up attitude on their part imho! In REALITY they need to be focusing on the new engine regs and a new chassis package built for the new T-V6's. Instead we get excuses that are meant too soften the blow of them sucking in 2012!!

One of the reasons for the success of the 2004 car was its perfect harmony with the tires. Something that (deliberately) went away with the new rules for the following year.

Ferrari had tire problems in the past few years as well, but hopefully the change in their suspension might have cured some of that:

Ferrari uses pullrod suspension front and rear this year and it is hoped, that this will get the tires to temps faster.

 

Their tires are indeed heating more quickly at the front, but the pullrod system at the front is difficult to arrange in perfect harmony with the rear. Front end turn in is very lazy because of it now.

On the serious note, if Ferrari fails to win a race this season again, i guess this will indeed be the end of Stefano.

 

If they were going to let him go because of team underperformance they would have already done so. It isn't the Italian way. Lol

 

I rode on the chairlift today woth a young man from Spain. In the course of the conversation I asked him if he knew who Fernando Alonso was. He said no.

Incredulous, I said he is a Formula One driver for Ferrari. Oh, he said you mean %$#@* *^&%$#. Of course I have heard of him.

You think 2011 was bad? Third in the championship and only one GP win is not great, but those of us who are old enough remember some really bad seasons:

1962: 18 points, 5th in the championship (out of 8), one 2nd, no wins.
1969: 7 points, 5th in the championship (out of 6), one 3rd, no wins.
1973: 12 points, 6th in the championship (out of 11), no podiums, no wins.
1980: 8 points, 10th in the championship (out of 11), no podiums, no wins.

I'm old enough to remember all of those dreadful seasons except the first. Ferrari has not had any season, including 2011, anywhere near that bad since, and I, for one, am glad. Do I want them to do better? Sure, but in a historical context 2011 wasn't that bad.
