Hi I am picking up my 84 GTS QV and as I will be covering a few hundred miles wondered what would be a good injector cleaner to put in the fuel? this is my first Ferrari.
    Cheers

Why do you think you need it ? To be honest I've never heard of anyone using it

I've used the stuff - not convinced it did much TBH but it probably can't hurt anything.

Changing the old steel injectors to the newer brass ones on the other hand did make a noticeable difference. Car had about 37K on the clock when I did it.

I would drive the thing a while, get the emissions checked, check the ignition over & then see where its at before you start worrying about changining out injectors though.

Personally, I don't think that it will gain you much. With K-Jet systems, it's best to physically take them out and check them. If they're original steel injectors, it's a good idea to just replace them. They just wear out. Worn pintles, etc. within the injector result in a fuel stream/drip, rather than the finely atomized spray that Bosch and Ferrari intended. I'm going to be replacing my OEM injectors in the next month or so.

You won't need to do anything to them for a trip of a few hundred miles, so don't worry. I drove my car home from Florida (about 500 miles) with the injectors that it has. The car ran beautifully. I'm doing the replacement just because they're now very old, and I want to replace injector tubing and clean up the manifold and plenum anyway. Personally, I make it a point to not mess with the fuel, adding chemicals, etc.

More importantly, I'd do a good check of the cam/timing belts and the fuel lines (for any damage) before setting out, unless you've already had a full inspection done by a Ferrari mechanic. Top up your coolant and leave an inch or so at the top of your tank for expansion as the engine heats up. Also make sure that your alternator and water pump belts are in good order. The 308s consume a small amount of oil on long trips, so take a quart (or a liter) or so with you. This consumption is normal, and Ferrari mentions it in the manual as well. On my trip, I only had to add 3/4 of a quart or so.

The main thing.............enjoy your trip! The long drives in a 308 are wonderful (I think)...the sweet music of a howling Italian V8 over your shoulder. ;)

    Congratulations!

PS: I'm sure that's more than you ever wanted to know in this thread, but I thought I'd throw it all in.

I use Techron made by Chevron Oil. If its available in UK, I recommend it. Its the only injector treatment with which I've had notable results. I agree w/Matto; if you have the original steel (or old brass injectors), replace them. They wear out and corrode internally. I think a lot of tail-chasing of supposed ignition and CIS problems is obviated with new injectors.

When I bought my QV a few years ago, it had been sitting for quite a while and had typical symptoms of injector "issues". Before doing any real work to it, during the time I was inventorying the list of issues, I started it on a program of Techron in every other tank of fuel, and a few oz of Marvel Mystery oil in the fuel when not adding the Techron. (Marvel Mystery in the fuel has a following among other marques that run K-Jet.) After a few tanks of fuel, the injectors were running quite well, a vast improvement over the as-delivered condition.

Marvel Mystery probably doesn't do anything good for cat's but they're going away anyway; YMMV and all that....

I am with Dennis on this one for sure! Recommended by a Ferrari restorer many years ago and I use it in all my injected vehicles. Always an improvement.

I use Techron on my '85 QV. It was suggested by the then current Ferrari mechanic. It had been running poorly even though it only had a bit over 26 K miles. I used a container with every tankful for the first few fill ups and then to every other one. Made a heck of a difference at first and has been good ever since. Cheap insurance I feel, especially with all the crap that comes in the fuel nowadays. I have had a couple of bad tank-fuls with higher that acceptable levels of water. The product has been good for me. In the old days you would put in some Castrol R - smelt great! Cant get the stuff anymore!!

The redex injector cleaner seems to work on the 3.2 mondial engine- only used it as engine would cut out coming up to a junction- Used to put a bit in start every year, car still had its original injectors fitted in 2014 when i traded it.
