    Dear seasoned Ferrari Owners:
I'm thinking about getting a used F430 (2006-2008) but my wife is really against it because she thinks "owning a Ferrari is too showy, embarrassing and over the top" Over 25 years of marrage, I have always purchased whatever I wanted and she is very supportive. I have a vintage Porsche she think's is cute (slow and fun), but when I mention a Ferrari, she gets Ferrari red! It is rare to see high end cars in our neck of the woods, so in some ways, I can see here point. My only defense is to tell her I'd hide the car, but we know that's not going to work long. I don't want the car to show off...it's kind of like a bucket list item...what the *("^&) kind of thing - but than again...no one really "needs" a Ferrari. It's hard to purchase something like this without support. She says she can't stop me but promised she will never look at it or ride in it.

Any advise...any you guys had this perdicament?

She is of the incorrect mindset that everyone who owns these cars does it to show off. Plus, I call BS that she'll never ride in it with you or look at it. My wife was reluctant at first to green light the purchase of my 355, but once I got it she loves driving around in it with me. I believe the same would happen with you two.

You need to help her understand the rationale behind buying the car isn't just to be a show piece but to enjoy driving it and the EXPERIENCE of driving it. It's FUN, not pretension.

It would help if you could take her to an FCA event or a car show, that way she could talk with other owners and understand the mindset of those who love the cars more.

I can understand your wife in some points... a ferrari is an eye catcher on the street and maybe this is the point which she doesn't like too much... but it's good to hear that she supports you nevertheless. I bet if the car arrives she will be happy and supportive also with the ferrari!
