Graeme: Not my field I would not know and hope someone can help you.

    Carmine:

Thanks for showing me my site carries a mistake from 2004:)! Will update that when I have a chance.

The number I believe is 430, which came out of my meeting with Cozza summer 2005. However we will reverify it when I send my final Khamsin questions for the book in the next week or two, I am wrapping up the text now (139000 words) and both Ermanno Cozza and Fabio Collina have been hugely helpful. Here is a shot from Retromobile, I really like Fabio great guy and true enthusiast. Yours truly is bearded till the book is ready: I hate it so further motivation:)! Photo by Thepenier archivist Frederic Doniot, another true enthusiast I had the pleasure to meet in Paris. Fabio is right now manning the booth of Maserati Classiche at that new Milan Classic car show.

Defining the exact number means deciding what really happened with AM120006 for which there is no file at the factory. Since Cozza has no info on it or memory of any kind only theories are possible mine is that it got accidentally crashed in road testing and was discreetly scrapped but just a theory. So the number cannot actually be exactly defined because of that question mark...but I will ask Cleto Grandi and a couple of the other old timers if it rings a bell.
Also there were some strange breaches of chassis number sequences for late Euro left hand drive cars as well as for US cars which we will shed light on but right now I am buried in the Merak chapter.

    best regards,

    Marc

    Hi Mark:

Since they were just glued on many literally fell by the way side and you answered your own question many times after repaints they were lost. I was given some for my car on the Bertone stand in Geneva in 2006 which was a treat! They were however in plastic whereas in period they were in metal.

    best regards,

    Marc

    Hi Marc,

Well, I would not call it is a mistake. Rather, you are on a voyage of discovery!

    Still quite an exclusive club!

Very nice effort! Thanks for putting all this work into documenting these very special cars. I am looking forward to reading my own copy in the near future. What is the anticipated publication date?

I've corresponded with Fabio regarding documents for my car. As far as one can tell from eMail he seems like a real good guy.

For now it's a good look for you. Makes you look like an artist. But yes. When the book is done -- cut it off!

Maybe intentionally crashed for USA bumper test? Is anyone around from Bob Grossman's old operation?

Thanks for posting that is 358 sold fall 2010 from Royan west France to Italy, now offered by an Italian delaer form the north east. Those French tags are just decoration now...rode in it June 2010 at 500 Ferraris agaisnt cancer (I posted quite a few photos then), ran very well, very good recent paint BUT they did not remove the rubbers when doing it.
Very nice interior and great color on a K even if not original.

Same car in photo I took in early 80's in Paris in front of the Plaza Athenee, saw it all the time then...it was owned by a gentleman with residences in Paris, Geneva (hence the tags) and a castle in the countryside: a true Grand Touring life!

Magnus: Goddag! Thanks for the mention, You saw it at Ake's garage right? Any photos? can you PM me his email and phone? Tack sa mycket in advance! Believe it or not this is one of the fours K's sold new in...Venezuela!

Hi Marc and every one - it's been busy days in the workshop putting parts back on the car.

I'm trying to get my glass cut with water jet - lets see if it will work. Can anyone tell me what the distance between the lover edge of the tail light and the rubber weather seal on the glass should be?
I guess 20 mm - but a more exact number will be preferable - thanks!

    Best Regards
    John

    Hi John!

I am hundreds of miles from the nearest K but I am sure someone will oblige.

One thing: before you try the water jet cutting, do a pattern (on the most rigid kind of paper you can find) outlining the shape of the rear glass. that way if it shatters (hope for the best and be prepared for the worst) you can turn to a local fiberglass supplier and provide him the pattern helping you save time. Someone could if that happens provide you the exact thickness required.

Of course you may also be able to buy just the rear glass perhaps: I can find out if you want.

Fingers crossed let us know how it goes!

    best regards,

    Marc

    Hi John,

I don't know anything about this. But like a number of people who post on this forum -- that won't prevent me from commenting on the matter.

These guys: http://www.sandersreproglass.com/ cut with water jet.

From their web site it's not clear to me whether water jet works for laminated as well as tempered glass. In any event it seems that tempered glass is suitable for the Khamsin tail panel. I'd expect that your vendor has the same capabilty.

    Good luck with it.

    Hi John

Tempered Glass needs to be cut and then tempered where as a Thin laminate would be straight water cut.

Interesting thing is once glass is tempered it cannot be cut it just shatters.

There may be a local reglatory reason for tempered verses Laminated however as its such a B@#$% to fit personally I would go back to an acrylic or lexan.

I still have the original rear panel from my car and have made a drawing.

I need to explain the rational of the dimension location. The out board lower corner is hard to judge as it starts to curve so I have taken the dimesion 10mm from the end of the cutout where as the end I used to software to measure it. That way it should be more accurate
The Drawing is also 50% scale but I cannot vouch for the outer shape around the curves

    I hope this helps

    Dear K-people,

If anyone has a spare door handle (passenger side), that they might be induced to part with -- please contact me.

Alternately, if anyone within a few hours drive of metro NYC USA would allow me to visit to make a mold (foundry pattern) from their handle, that would be fine also.

    Thanks,
    Carmine

    Hi Carmine

Khamsin is typical of car of that era, Bertone made the bodies and you just need to look closely at cars made by them.

I will PM you with a list of odd bits I found.

Marc do you have ainterchange parts list? This would be good to establish for owners.
Rather than list some here I think for the sake of some mudane parts becoming expensive its bst keep for the Owners.

    Regards

    Graeme

    Graeme,
Thanks very much for the information.

    Marc,
I'm not sure if I should open up this old wound again, but one of the items on the Maserati Khamsin Registry list is:
GREEN HYD FLUID- Substitute Aeroshell fluid 4 (MIL H 5606)

    Hi Mark,

It sounds as if you are volunteering, so why not start a new thread under the main the Maserati heading? Solicit information from anyone's experience. We'd need some basic format for each part record, so it's a bit of a database design problem.

A good place to start would be on Marc's Khamsin registry, but of course there are many other Maserati models. I'm on a learning curve myself so I don't expect to be of much help, but I will forward anything that I can find.

It sounds as if you are volunteering, Thats correct.

Just a little about myself I run the Yahoo web based group for Fiat Abarth Zagato Gt750 (Double Bubble ). I owned my 1959 Abarth Zagato for thirty plus years and sold it to make way for the Khamsin. I still own another Abarth which is sitting in the barn waiting for the day to hit the workshop. My other cars are two Austin Healeys 100-4 the one very early car being a 1953 the 503 ever built. I'm the Vice Pres of the Austin Healey Club of Southern Onatario with 185 members so I like volunteering my time to great cars.

Yep we need to take Joe's great list and add to it from other sources and keep our car on the road for another forty years.

So if anyone has something to add to Joe's list lets have a pm or email or a web site with more info and we will see what we can put together.

    Cheers
