Interesting interview, considering they look to be a force this year: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97630
Can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. Mad Max ran off the manufacturers to bring in "new blood" and two of those three teams are a joke. Everyone likes to romanticize about the independent teams in F1 history, but look at Williams now...
Apparently a eam needs $250M+ per year to remain at the top, and when you win both titles you get something south of $100M in recuperations. Thus each team needs to be attached to sponcers and other companies willing to pony up $150M per year to remain at the top in this sport. So, for FI, I suggest building supercars and selling them pretty much like Ferrari, Mercedes SMG, or invent some new soft drinks and sell the crap out of them to make up the difference.
Huh? The WDCs of the last few years have mostly been won by independant teams. Nothing about romanticizing but pretty much historic fact: Most titles have been won by independant teams bolting on an engine from a manufacturer. This was true back in the Cosworth days as it is true today where people use Renault or Mercedes engines to win the races and titles ahead of the worksteams. Yes, there are the looser independant teams just as there are the looser work teams. Well, actually they aren't around anymore because they have already given up (Jaguar, Toyota, BMW to name a few recent ones).
You understand what I meant. Mosley kept going on and on about how we need "new blood" in the sport. Oh yay, now we have a couple teams that barely outlap a GP2 car...
+1. Force India look great in testing but they have not really improved over the last 2 years. VJ has big money problems and hence the team will as well. Sure they have new investors, but it takes a bit more time than 1 winter break to make a big difference. Assuming the new investors have done more than inject enough capital to keep the status quo.
