Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

OK. I would expect the big delay will be getting from the parking lots onto the 2 lane FM812(?). Once on to 812,... likely will be tolerable for a mile.

they're making a road that spans the length of the property from north to south. Hopefully they'll come up with a plan to get people in off 812 on the south, and elroy road on the north. I wouldn't be suprised if it is quicker to stay in a hotel in Buda or San Marcos, and just head up 35 to the toll road, and bypass austin all together on race day :)

I think I'd find a place to park 1-2 miles away, and ride a mountain bike to the track.

LOL. Would that be at the junkyard or at the machine shop or the trailer park or the quickie mart? Cause that's all that exists in the range you describe.

If I go (work may not allow it) I will either be taking barnyard up on his offer or staying at a friends house on the west side of town.

nothing wrong with any off those if it gets you away from the worst congestion. I'm sure there will be a property owner offering parking for $$$.

    LOL back at ya.

Does anyone have this site on Google maps? I'd like to see where it is in relationship to Austin.

enter "elroy, texas" into google maps.

you will see a pond between FM812 and elroy rd to the north. that's it. (east of 130)

Check this map link, NASCAR races twice a year here and has forever. It's just a little over a mile to the closest Interstate. Two lane roads in all directions, always has been, always will be. Of cousre it's a traffic jam. Fans still show!! They somehow deal with it!

Remember them well!..... You just deal with it one way or another. No big deal.

I also assume you remember Scratchers Lane into Brands? - Basically, *single* lane - I remember a shiny new Ferrari transporter getting all scratched up (by trees) going in one time - They were not happy Italians! ;)

    Cheers,
    Ian

They come in over a few days, set up the RV, cornhole game, still, and barbie, then party on, yeehaw!

Michigan back in the day was a nightmare, in and out even for the Indycars.

Ian, dear old Scratchers Lane, thanks for reminding me!
