Thats almost like having to choose between which supermodel your gonna commit too for an entire year but then again I'm on a Ferrari website so that should justify my choice on the poll question. Is this a hint towards the future perhaps??
It depends what you are looking for. If you want a good car out of the box, backed by years of experience and plenty of history, the Ferrari is obvious. It has the pedigree of a winner. But if you want something different, promising and challenging, then it's the McLaren. Most GT series were full of Ferrari 430 until recently (Euro GT3, Open GT, British GTC, Italian GT, French GT, etc...) that dominated most of them. Once the bulk of the field, the Porsche GT3 have been outclassed and are now in a minority. They are slightly slower too... So, some new blood to challenge the status quo will be welcome, I suppose. Compared to the Ferrari 458, the McLaren MP4-12 has been wanting, according to some journalists. It would be interesting to see how that will translate on the track. Ferraris will be raced by vastly experienced team and some professional drivers. Let's see how the few McLarens entered can fare compared to that.
Tough choice. Reason dictates the Ferrari is more successful up to this point; however, the past year was something of a trial run / teething period for the MP4. And it managed to score a podium finish at Macau. I'm excited for GT racing this season. And since Porsche 991 GT3 mules have been spotted, we can expect the 991 GT3 racer to make its debut soon as well.
That's interesting, I didn't know that. Don't they release the GT3 racers around the same time as the GT3 road car, for homologation purposes? I guess it would make sense that the GT3 could come out next year.
In the Porsche magazine the head of motorsport said that the 997 racecar would be utilized throughout the 2012 season as they test and prep the 991 for racing in 2013
Will be interesting to see those Mc's race! Is there a complete entries car list yet for 2012 N24 Hours?
One of the unknowns is how organisers/series/FIA are going to 'equalise' the performances of these cars. There was much discussion last year at Le Mans at the way the Porsches' performance had been emasculated in favour of the Ferraris by he famous BOP (balance of power) . It's really a pity that GT cars have to be detuned to satisfy arbitrary power limits imposed by the authorities, and therefore can never display their true possibilities.
From a styling standpoint, the Ferrari is prettier but the McLaren is racier. So for the street versions, I would definitely go with the Ferrari but for the race versions I think I would lean towards the McLaren.
FERRARI!!!!! I wonder what the cost difference is between the Ferrari and the Mc? Porsche probably still cheaper than those two.
First I think with a better looking livery, the Ferrari is better looking, but the Mac is really a beautiful car. If the street car looked like this things would be different in the pissin wars going on in all the 458---MC12 comparos. One point I find interesting though is that unless something changed the McLaren had to throw out the entire hydraulic suspension on their race cars as it was illegal. Active suspension or some such nonsense. But I think back to the old days and wonder what they would have said about Enzo if he was able to get a race car homologated with a completely different suspension, which happens to be the McLaren's street car claim to fame IMHO.
Today the same thing happens to Ferrari and all manufactures. The road 458's have a lot of things that aren't race legal as well. I do think the McLaren GT3 looks a lot better than the road car. The wing helps a lot.

Agreed. Someone actually special ordered a 12c in Rossa Corsa (that must have raised some eyebrows in Woking!) and --- it looks just like a 360 coupe. The 12C race version though is very cool. It will be interesting to see how it runs in race trim without the trick hydraulic suspension. Image Unavailable, Please Login
that's actually an interesting point but Ferrari has similar problems with the manettino/magnetic suspension. probably less of a complete redesign for Ferrari. and both cars have dual clutch gearboxes in their road cars and (AFAIK) "normal" sequential gearboxes in the race cars.
Even though I do love McLaren, Ferrari still has me sold, Bob helped seal the deal for me Image Unavailable, Please Login
Damn...that's...disgusting! It looks like a car out of a video game which couldn't get a car licensed so they made their own interpretation of it! Race version looks slick though .
