To be honest, I don't think Ferrari has any style in styling their cars, they are also unoriginal in the past years. (I know its designed by Pininfarina, but Ferrari ultimately choose the style)

Yes I liked the F430 but it wasn't a whole lot different from the 360. The 599 had similar headlights to the 430, and both evolved from similar looking headlights styling of the 360/550.575.

I thought Ferrari had turned a curve and stuck it to Lamborghini when they released the Ferrari California back in 2008, the headlights set them apart from the 612, V8s and the 599, making it arguably the prettiest car in the stable (with the top up).

Then came the 458 Italia in 2010. That design blew me away, by far the prettiest car ever made for me, I thought the headlights were somewhat different from the California and were amazing, I thought this was when Ferrari were upping the ante and stick it to Lamborghini even more with the designs.

But then came the FF, what a horrible looking car, taking the headlights from the 458, to me that made the 458 lose some of its originality, I was dissapointed with this.

And now the F620 leaked, the same headlights as the California (very similar), why can't they choose different styling?

To be Ferrari just doesn't know how to make pretty cars (apart from a few to mention)...

As Jeremy Clarkson said 'Striking, but not pretty.' You can add in unoriginal for that now as well to be honest.

I just look at its main competitor like Lamborghini.

Every single model they have released is very different to its predecessor. Diablo-Murcielago-Aventador...

I'm dissapointed with Ferrari's latest models, but of course when I see the F620 in person one day, I will like it, but still it would lack the originality I was looking for.

Taste changes over time. When the Daytona came out after the 275 GTB, it's looks were roundly panned in the press (no internet then!). Now, what do people say?

When the 308 came out in the late 70's, the Dino looked as old fashion as washing your clothes in a bucket. Now, which is seen as the best looking?

Whenever you try to break a styling mold, it takes time to get over the initial "WTF". How these cars will be viewed in the future is unknown. But, the Daytona won out in the end. Just remember that!

trust me, real NEW ferrari buyers or buyers that love and loyal to the myth and brand DO NOT care what the car looks like. They buy it or already paid deposits before ever seeing *****.

u like everyone else can argue with looks and style, thats easy.
coming up with money to buy their cars, thats hard.

well, indeed, couldn´t disgree more. Would you call Lamborghini original in their design? The Murcielago cleary harks back to the Diablo, which clearly takes it cues from the Countach and the Aventador is a sharpened Reventon, which is, of course, an edgy Murcielago. And I will not even begin on the 911 on the subject of originality.

Besides that, Ferrari has on their midengined V8 cars the philosofy that every completely new design, gets a serious facelift. So, 308/328 to 348/355 to 360/430 to 458. And I suppose you can agree that the 348 is a radical departure from it´s predecessor, as is the 360 and the 458 to theirs.

On the topic of Ferrari, I disagree with your assessment of the California. To me it is not only an ugly Ferrari, it is an ugly car. The design is horribly incoherent, Doesn´t make any sense. Is it original? No, not at all.

And on that subject, you can call the FF an ugly car, but you can´t maintain the arguement that it is, in this segment, unoriginal.

See? That´s just pure nonsense. Very different from their predecessors? Really? Just take a look from the Diablo to the Aventador. Every replacement is just a little sharper in edges and creases than it´s predecessor. No big change in overall styling and certainly no change in concept whatsoever. What have Ferrari done when they replaced the F512M with the 550 Maranello? What have they done when they replaced the 612 with the FF?

You can´t call Lamborghini original and then call 456-612-FF unoriginal. Or 308-348-360-458. Or Testarossa/512TR/F512M - 550/575 - 599. Not without a blatant disregard for the facts.

If anything, it is Ferrari that is constantly breaking with styling cues. Therefor Ferrari doesn´t even have a styling tradition.

    Dude, please...

im bored and i love this type of useless argument too! haha.

people always love the old gto, the 288 gto, the old rossa, the old dino, the old whatever #$%^&*.
i dont know, but i wasnt ALIVE or too poor to afford them when new, so when they are a millions dollars now when ALL of us CAN NOT afford them, lets talk about how good and pretty they are so we can feel better about ourselves and trash talk their new cars when we dont have money for them anyways.
And we can all dream we could of afford them when they were $8k 35 years ago and we didnt have anywhere near that lump sum to throw at a car whatsoever. Love this type of rearview mirror thinking that gets no where.

Having nice cars is really easy.......... just put out the cash.
Now,.... coming up with that cash, is hard.

So lets seek the easy route and argue that the 328 is the best ferrai ever made, dino is too expensive and good ones are hard to come by, aim low we all be happier.

    You can't please everyone.

The 458 is regarded as one of the prettiest designs since the 308, but I don't like it at all. Even when I saw one in real life not too long ago (pretty rare sight in Botswana since there's only 1!), it didn't do much for me. And it's HUGE!

I don't think the FF is pretty but I kind of like the car though.

From the front so far I like the 620, hoping it won't be a hatch back.

The california just looks like a lexus.

I'm sure people will ***** and moan at my post, but it's my opinion and I say it how I see it.

You already had a response for this, but I think that you´ve not received enough flak yet.

    Lamborghinis?

    Striking? YES

    Good looking? YES

Better looking than some Ferraris? YES

Different to its predecessor? FREAKIN´ ABSOLUTELY NO!!!!

I really hope that some day the hun who now manages Lamborghini will read a car history book and realize that Lamborghini has made more things than the Countach.

after i drove the aventador, i didnt like it at all, i hate how it drives, how it handles, and how bouncy it was everywhere.

but seriously, when i get down to it, the only reason i didnt like it was the high sticker price. I couldnt afford it.
so i hate on it. i playa hate it, i double cross elbow slam dunk punch it, i tell everybody i know its a POS and told people who got one on order they xxxking retarded, because its much easier than try to work hard and come up with my own money on it.

    Life is pretty simple really.

But PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, no more remakes.

We had the New Beetle, and it was cute, it was OK.

But now we have the new Mini, the new Ford GT40, the new old Mustang, the new Camaro, the new Challenger, the new Fiat 500, the new New Beetle, the new Ferrari P3/4 (sorry Mr. Glickenhaus), the new Golden Ferrari, the new Lancia Stratos, almost the new Miura and the new Cobra, the new 911 (well... sort of).

Enough of this retro-revival trend for me.

    You said it brother!!!

I'm so happy Lambo cut the "new Muira" concept. What a ridiculous idea. Give us stuff of today, not the Chip Foose "cleaned up" versions of the past.

Haha yes I agree with you, but Lamborghinis are completley different, I cant see how the Diablo is same to the Murcielago, completley different front and rear, same with the Aventador, its just people hating on Lamborghini, I'm fine with that, I'm not changing my opinion on that ever.

I've never quite understood why some Ferrari lovers hate on Lamborghini... the Reventon was a one off made from exclusivity, the Aventador is clearly the miniture version of the mega exclusivity model.

Whilst every Ferrari almost looks the same today.

And yes Aston Martins cars all look the same, and then to make that smart car... brands gone downhill and lost tradition with that car.

And whats money got to do with the styling of the car in some posts, I'm not a jealous guy, If I can't afford it, I don't go around crying moaning at the car, I don't go hang myself I just move on ... quite mind-boggling why people would hate on a car that they couldn't afford, its like hating on the super models or pornstars, could never hate on a girl that I'm not with, you just move on...

Unless your like a NFL/MLB player soon to go broke, I would check the ferrari in this way. I could care less about the price, If I love the investment I'm about to make, I could car less how much it costs, the maintenance, as long as I have the money.

    1. Looks
    2. Performence

I'm moaning about the looks of the car, not the performance, I would rater drive around in something half decent than a monstrocity. I hate the FF, so Ferrari unlike, I kind of accepted the 612, If I wanted a 4 seater car, I would look to Bentley or Land Rover.

Simple. And the Aventador is a better car than the 458, some Ferrari people won't admit it, it's not a competitior so theres no shame to say it, from everyone I've talked to and the reviews everywhere it is, some people won't generally think that, that own the cars fine.

But just because the Aventador is better, I would still choose the 458 over it anyday based on the looks, but If I'm driving it and I go past a FF, just looks a little unoriginal.

@GTE, your just obviously hating on me for not liking Ferrari's current model line up, I've already said they evolve very nicely from their predecessors like the 430 to the 458, 355 to 360, but its the CURRENT line up, they all look so similar.

    Biggest rubbish I've ever heard.

People make their choices on looks every day.

Did you buy your house based on the looks of it? I bet you did, but probably also thought about the location and how practical it was.

Did you marry or are with your girlfriend based on the looks of her, THATS A MASSIVE Yes, of course. It's called attraction, but also chipped in is her personality.

I certainly don't go into a shop and buy any clothes because its the latest in line, If I like it I'll buy it, if not then move on.

People don't buy a car if its ugly, they will buy it because they think it looks nice (with the money they have), some might buy it because it might become a modern great or is a great (say if you thought the enzo was ugly or the dino).

"I will recieve a lot of hate for this, but I'll say it :)"

Why do people jinx their own posts in the title? I don't know.

F620 styling - like you said, unoriginal, it's like pasting FF design theme onto a 599 shaped chassis. It's much better than the disastrous FF, but that's not saying much. Between FF, F620 and California I am real nervous regarding the F70 unveil. I hope they don't pull another F50 styling mambo. How can a firm that designed the styling of the 458 decides make cars like the FF and F620? Either way the 599 just got prettier.

    Recent Ferrari styling duds:

F620, FF, California, GTO (because it looks *marginally* different from 599), 612, F430..... What's going on here? Is Pininfarina running out of ideas or Ferrari board members keep picking wrong design proposals?

Next time you are in Cape Town would like to sit down and debate this with you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say and its true with any Ferrari, me I think the FF looks really good, its very curvacious in places and while its no supermodel its not ugly either, it has undeniable presence, then again I have seen it in a few different colours so my opinion is based on not just seeing it in one colour.

Lamborghini styling is far from revolutionary, they are all built on the same basic template..Countach, Diablo, Murcielago, Aventador, in essence all similar, the 599 and the 550 are totally different looking.

Lastly I dont think you can generalize why people buy these cars, there is more to it than looks.

The design of a car is more than the shape of the headlights. (BTW, I´ve noticed that you pay a lot of attention to that: then I don´t know what you think about the cars of the 60s, which all used standard round headlights).

For me, every Lamborghini since the Countach (a truly freakin´masterpiece regarding looks) has been the same: same proportions, flat, sharpen and with angles and air intakes averywhere. All of them look good, but just because they are copies of a car that did look good (and way better than the copies, IMO).

If you can´t see the similarities, well, it would take a long time to explain them, so we´ll agree to disagree.

About Lamborghini, I´m sure that I´m alone with this, but I liked that Diablo Canto by Zagato. I also liked the rejected idea for the Diablo that later became the Cizeta Moroder. Both were quite weird and amorphous, but brought a bit of fresh air to the known stereotype.

@Ferrari 360 CS, thats fine as long as its on a saturday afternoon, hot in Camps bay where we are in the cafes, think you will know why :)

@DeSoto yes you are right, I look at cars headlights, and from the side to judge what I like about the car, others will think other parts of the car they would look for... And I hated cars from old, thats why I like the 458 so much, because its so modern looking :).

    What he said, mostly.

I liked the 458 more in drawings than in person. Not ugly, but not beautiful.

Obviously haven't seen the new F12 in the metal yet, but I think it looks like an improved California.

I agree on Porsche and Aston... the DB9 really is beautiful, but designer Callum is wearing a serious straitjacket at this point.

Some day you need to get to Vegas and take a drive in my 458. When you sit in it and step on the pedal, you'll understand again what "beauty" is all about. :)

I also think you're in the minority on the looks. I've had this car for 6 months now and "beautiful" is the one single word that people use to describe it.
