My lady and I are going there March 7th. We are doing the beach wedding thing on Saturday the 10th. We will have some free time. We are flying into Miami Wednesday (first class on Delta. I'm getting married!) so we can enjoy the drive down to Key West Thursday. Staying at the Waldorf Astoria "The Reach". Ocean view. I am interested in do the glass bottom boot tour to see the coral and such. Renting a Mercedes Benz E class convertible but I have heard driving a car is not they best way to get around as parking is tough. Rent a scooter? Looking for any suggestions on anything cool to do or not miss. It is spring break time also. That is why we choose The Reach. They told me they will not tolerate spring breakers disturbing the rest of the guests.

    Thanks
    Rodney

I'm sure you know all the action is on duval street at night. Plenty of great people watching and leave your inhibitions at the hotel. Parking is an issue, hotels have shuttles and there are trolleys and cabs of course. Tons of water sports, parasailing, etc by day. Entertaining street performers at Mallory square around sunset. But it's mostly just a wild party every night especially during spring break. Drive down without stopping from Miami is about 5 hours so hopefully you guys work well in the car together. Lots of great scenery after about half way. A very interesting place, have fun.

First off, congratulations on getting married. We married in KW last October (Aaron's Key West Weddings did a great job) and had a blast. Duval Street is the main attraction in town; loads of fun food and party places and yes, it gets pretty wild at times.
No need to ever use a car while in KW - just get a cab wherever you plan on going - parking is tough to get near the hot spots.
Your hotel concierge should be able to set you up with any type of water sports (snorkling, boat rental, ect.) - the Mel Fisher museum, Hemingway House and Light House would also be worth a stop if you have the time. Feel free to PM me with any questions - we go to KW about twice a year for a long weekend. Again, congrats and enjoy!!!

I researched all the beach wedding options in Key West. I found 4-5 that seemed to be the best. One of those did not have that weekend available. So I had to choose from 3-4. We went with keywestcasualweddings.com He had the best looking photos on his web page and in the long run the photos are what will be remembered most. Aaron's Key West Weddings was certainly a top choice. It was hard to make that final choice but one has to make that choice and go with it.

Her (mini) wedding dress. She can still pull it off at 47 years old. :)

I'll post a few pictures when we get back. I was there back in 1977 when it was still somewhat undeveloped. My friend and I (a few years after high school) decided to drive his custom conversion van to Ft Lauderdale in the middle of winter. The weather happened to be so cold at that time in Florida that we drove to Key West just to find some warmer weather. If not for that I would have never been there. So when looking into where to get married I thought of Key West.

    Thanks

I forgot her name, but she did a great job pressing my wife's dress. Picked up/dropped off at the hotel - her number is 305-393-9041.

Again congrats & hope you'll have a blast

First, congrats. Second, go diving. If you are not certified take a PADI discovery class. The discovery classes are very low key and are aimed at getting people interested in diving. You spend roughly an hour being prepped and fitted and then you dive for about an hour. You only go down about thirty feet and if you don’t like it you haven’t wasted much of your time. Most places charge about $150 for the discovery class and take you on two dives. The Dry Tortugas are cool if you like to combine history with snorkeling. There is a great breakfast place that has chickens wandering around the yard. I can’t remember the name; however, ask a local and they will tell you the name of it. I like Irish Kevin's bar if he is still there. I second the Hemingway House. As far as accommodations, I find the Dewey House more my speed.

One thing we love to do in Key West is to visit Mel Fisher's museum. All of the gold and riches of the Atocha are on display and it is fantastic. Unfortunately my wife has used it as a opportunity to buy jewelry more than once. But it really is great.

TheTruman House, The Hemingway House, some of the best fishing in the world - all great things to do!

Check out Blue Heaven restaurant. A little off the beaten path, but very Key West.

    Have fun!

OK, I read the whole thread and nobody has mentioned what I think is the best thing at Key West. The jet ski tour. You can double up on one ski, so it's like $75 each. A steal! Best of all, it's right outside the Reach by Waldorf Astoria. Stacey at the concierge will hook you up, and you can stroll on down to the beach. Go for the last one, where you can see the sun set from the water. Sooo awesome!
