Well, I think maybe I should spend the little extra to move from my 360 Spider to a 430 Spider after all. I think the 430 may even give my R8 a run for its money. Thanks to the gunmetal grey 430 spider driver this morning whoever you are who gave me a proper performance lesson.

Lol. They are faster for sure... but I personally like the look of the 360 better. (The 430 Scud looks pretty awesome though). Good luck if you move forward with the 430.

If you can't right now, that's fine, but I'd keep the 360 a while longer then jump into a 458 later down the track. That's just me though. All the best with any decision you make.

+1 on that one as the 458 will be worth the wait. The 430 is not a quantum leap. It is an advance in technology but only marginal.

    It's like an iphone 4 to the 4s :)

I've got a 360 and if I sold it, it would be for a 458. 430 is a better car than the 360 but too similar in many respects to justify the change.

I can't get into the 458, for the price, looks, and then there is the fact that is is more car than I can handle. The 430 is only a little more than my 360, not 3 times as much OTD.

If I go for a new Ferrari from my 360, it will be a Cali. Totally different animal.

Doesn't seem worth it to me, especially with beastly California sales tax, the "upgrade" will be pretty expensive for what it is. Of course, if you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, I can certainly understand the car addiction, so best of luck regardless!

I think if the cost make sense, I would.
it will cost double or tripple to get to 458 or 458 spider.

I don't know, but after owning a 360F1 and a F430 six speed manual, the F430 is a big step up in performance, and in acceleration the est. 83bhp will leave a 360 in the dust. I also liked the looks of the F430 so much more, but then again there's nothing wrong at all with keeping the 360, it's a great car.

The delta for the 458 will always remain much higher, rather get a Scuderia. If I was in the market for a new well optioned 458 then I'll be looking for a F40 instead.

I can't deny that, even with all the extra performance in the F430 and thats a lot... I can't justify telling someone to ignore a 360 and to jump on a F430 or any other faster car, unless your talents behind the wheel can match the car. In reality a 360 is enough for 99% of the owners or those to be (even a 308 at the limit), but we get used to what we own and feel the itch to experience something new, just like in a marriage.

I am probably looking at $40k all in for to move to an '06 430 Spider. For a chain instead of a belt and something a little faster and different, it does give me pause. And what I saw yesterday suggests the performance delta is more than I thought before (though I often think it is just my inferior driving skills). The only thing holding me back is that I think the 360 is a prettier car.

Funny, I didn't think that when the 430 was released but now I do...360 has much better lines

When I bought a 328gts it always bothered me that I like the 308 visually better.

Depends on if you're gonna look at a car or Drive it.
As mentioned, the technology and performance is More than marginal on the 430. 20% more HP and upgraded suspension is a Huge leap forward in performance. The Manettino alone allows you to control these settings on the car for your liking.
If you like looking at your car for aesthetics, keep the 360 (and that's debatable)
If you are a driver and like Driving your car, it's the 430 hands down (not debatable).

So your plus is a little more power and no need for a $3K occasional belt service (that I do every 5 years on my 360 per my mechanics advice, so break even would be 67 years on that basis or 40 with the factory 3- year interval) with the downside of more money and a car not as pretty as the 360. Well, I guess it comes down to how often you race on the roads and how much it bothers you that a 430 is a little faster? I can count how many times I've raced someone on the road in the past 2 1/2 years of owning my 360 (it works out to exactly zero), and how many times I wished for just a bit more power (also works out to zero). But everyone wants something different and has different budgets as well... I'm not saying you shouldn't move up to a 430, but I don't know that there is that much difference that will satisfy you if it's a little different experience you're after.

This may seem nuts, but instead up spending money on that trade, I would keep the 360 and try to get a 4.7 maserati convertible to go with the 360- the maserati is a beautiful car and sounds awesome...the Cali just doesn't do it for me as a Ferrari (would have been a great maserati). What sealed the deal for me was when I studied the two cars at a recent local cars & coffee- the maserati was the better looking car and impressed me more than the cali (performance numbers aside as the ferrari is of course faster and better handling). Not to turn this into a Cali bashing discussion, but I think the 360/430 is quite a different experience than a Cali for the feel, handling, looks- a low mid engined go kart vs. more or less a GT type layout of the Cali.

Of course, with all the cars we are talking about are incredible cars...

True that it's not debatable...but it IS debatable if it's worth the money.

I'm going through the same thing. And to be honest I think I'd rather wait for the 16M to come down a bit more in price, when we start seeing a bit more 458 spiders on the road.

Very good points me thinks. Besides, I already have an aston for aesthetics. It ain't the fastest car on the road, but it is sure the prettiest.

Still, the 360 is pretty great and prettier than the 430 and, yes a little slower, but if I want to take on a 430, I will just take out my R8.

    Decisions decisions!

From an appearance standpoint, I like to think of the 360 and the F430 as fraternal twins. One look reveals the identical DNA, but each model has its own features that identify it, while distinguishing it from the other. I don't even think it's a question of which is better looking. I do believe that each model looks better in certain colors than the other. For example, to my mind, the 360 Spider in California Blue looks better than the F430 in the same color. You can't go wrong with either model, berlinetta or spider! Fred

I think both 360 and 430 exteriors are beautiful, and I'm hard-pressed to say one is better than the other. But in terms of interiors, in my opinion, the cars are quite different.

For me, the 360 has a very dated interior. The 430 interior has a more modern feel without the ultra robotic/modern look of the TFT-based 458 (Actually I don't like the 458 interior -- too angular, and not enough round gauges...458 interior reminds me of a video game console).

Also for me, coupes are much, much better looking than spiders with their tops up. The profiles of both 430 and 360 get all screwed up with the ragtops. So I guess the solution is never put the top up!!!

    Cheers,

    DL

+1 on the interior of the 430, it was one of my top reasons to go to the 430 over the 360. Very subjective metric I agree.
+1 on never putting the top up. In fact; if you see my 430 rolling with the top up, and its not pouring down rain, please call 911 and report it stolen.

Agree with everything you said. Only exception is a 360 interior with full carbon (like the cs) looks just as modern as the f430 imo.
