All, Thanks for the help in my recent questions, I would like to get your opinion, is this a fair deal? http://www.porscheofthemainline.com/web/used/Ferrari-360-2003-Newtown-Square-Pennsylvania/2122174/?condition_id=10426 They will take my Viper SRT-10 '04 w/8400 miles as trade in plus 40k USD. Major service is due 5/12. Thanks, Francisco
Is your Viper only worth 35k wholesale? Could you give it to one of the local C and C guys who sell cars for a living to sell for you for more? That 360 Modena Syder should be able to be bought for 75-80k IMHO. Jon in Delaware
If everything else is in good working order and the car comes with all books and keys then I would recommend adding the cost of the major plus a few extra dollars for brakes, filters, etc. to $80K and subtract the value of your car. That should give you the answer you are looking for. Just my $.02.
Whats the trade in and street value of your 04 SRT-10 in your area? That info is really needed. Its a dealer (albiet not FCar), so the 80 range for a non resale-red 360-spider with 15k is what I would expect. Personally I would start at 75. The trade in complicates the deal. I would nail down the trade independent of the car you are looking to purchase. This gets rid of one of the Shells in the game.
I think you should nail down on how much you want or trade worth first.... Then find out how much you want to pay for this car. don't let them play games with you.
$40k for your Viper seems a little low based on a quick Ebay search of asking prices. Then again, you save yourself sales tax on trade in, $2400 right there. Not to mention avoiding the aggrevation of selling yourself. That is a nice example of a 360 6-speed. They are few and far inbetween. If you like the color combo, I say do it. If you are local, even better, avoid the shipping. The trade-in is a huge advantage to have.....
I think $85K is not a bad asking price. But, it also depends on the service history. If it needs routine service right out of the box, it may make a difference. I can't tell you on the Dodge. I have no idea what they are worth. But, it's unlikely the 360 spider will fall much further aside from mileage. There's already a lot of model compression going on and I think 6 speeds (being rarer) will hold value a little better as people search country wide for them.
I paid 43k for the Viper 2 months and 1000 miles ago, basically they are selling me the 360 at 83k, in relation to the major if is due on May how risky is to delay the service to end of this year? 6 months...
I agree, it would depend on the service history. When major service and clutch were done last. Sounds just a little high to me.
First: pre purchase inspection (PPI) by a qualified Ferrari mechanic That person should give you a approximate cost on what needs to be done, and how soon it should be done. After that you decide if you want to purchase. The cost of a PPI will be WAY less than getting a car with issues that has not been taken care of.... If its good, buy it, drive it, and enjoy it. (and you will like it)
I agree. I just purchased a 2001 spyder. That price is fair IF it has been serviced and the clutch is 80% or better. Maybe a little high but nice weather is coming and the spyders might be harder to find in this price point.
Seems like a pretty good price to me depending on what needs to be done. Belt service and clutch can easily add up to 10K and PPI may uncover additional needs. Just went though similar questions on my purchase - looked at a lot of nice fair priced cars that became not so good deals when belts and clutch service were factored in.
+1 on good price. This is a 2003 model, manual transmission, 15K miles in good colors. A full service (belts/fluids) is $3-4K. A fully serviced car '03 for <$90K seems very fair to me. Frankly I appreciate everyone's opinion, but I don't see this as a $75K car, and if you approach it as such you may find that you let a good one get away. I know everyone wants to buy a car as inexpensively as possible, but if the car is sound, you've got a good deal. Getting a fair deal on a high quality car is the objective. Getting the "smoking best deal in the USA" will keep you looking for a long time. Buy it, drive it, enjoy it.
I've been watching this car for months, as it's close to what I am also looking for but not a perfect fit. A few observations: 1) This is not a heavily optioned car. If I remember correctly, the Scuderia shields are aftermarket and it lacks some of the little options like subwoofer and contrasting seats. 2) The blue convertible top seems to be holding it back in the market from what I can tell. The cars with blue tops just seem to move slower. 3) The car's been at this dealer for perhaps 6 months or longer listed at roughly the same price. I agree with the other posters that this car should be able to be had in the $75k-80k range. Given that it's been sitting for a while, I would definitely have a PPI, as you don't know what might be dead, dried out, or failing due to lack of use.
I can't comment on the trade-in value of your Viper, but the initial asking price on this '03 360 doesn't seem TOO bad. I'm not a huge fan of the blue top on this one, but I don't think it's a show stopper either. I'd also want to see the blue interior in person ... not my favourite interior colour. I'd be looking for service history and a recent major. You also need to ensure that you get all of the manuals (and the PIN code for the alarm), both keys, and all three remotes (i.e., two blacks and one red). Of course, you also want the tool kit and the tire inflator kit. It wouldn't hurt to look at the condition of the tires (check the date codes too, as they might be quite old). My gut feeling is that $85 isn't too bad, but <$80K might be more realistic. I say this because the mileage is a tad on the high side, plus I think the jury's still out as to whether or not the manual transmission adds value. Allow $2K to buy manuals, remotes, a PIN, and keys if necessary.
$10,000? I'm curoius what you base that on? Car looks priced right if it checks out- the 6-speed is tough to find and worthwhile in my opinion.
People here will tell you that you should pay $70K for it. But I think $80-85 is more than fair if everything checks out. I have a friend who just bought a 05 F1 spyder, red/tan, less than 10K miles, creampuff. He paid over $100K. Finding nice cars that satisfy YOUR requirements is not easy. I also don't like the blue top, but that is a matter of opinion.
Did they disclose why it was "Pending Sale" last week and then up for sale again? That car has been offered for sale since late last year and I was curious why. I do know that it was sent to Algar at one point to diagnose a problem and they declined for Algar to make the repairs...apparently they chose to make the repairs themselves after the diagnosis. With the color scheme dark blue interior and blue roof, this also seemed to limit the buyers. If everything checks out, seems $80K to $83K would be a good deal for an 03 Spider with those options. I've been seeing a lot of $90K to $93K 03 Spiders (with asking in the $99K range).
I ask as I went there last year for a '07 GT3 and they would not let me drive it. So I bought an CPO '07 GT3 instead in Chicago. Just curious why being sold AS-IS ? Might as well go to Manheim for an AS-IS. I feel professional dealers, who can buy+accept trade-in cars wholesale can then sell them asking retail prices, should offer some form of warranty; maybe a 3mo 3k mile warranty.
almost every car is being sold "as is". these cars are out of warranty although you can buy one from a dealer for a large sum. PPI should solve problem. Also, it is critical that you work with a reputable dealer otherwise you may as well buy from an auction if you can.
