Heads up, had some attempted break ins to garages in the State Thomas area of Uptown this week. They tried to use pieces of wood to wedge their way into the top part of the garage door. From there they try to pull down the release lever with a coat hanger. There are a couple of different methods for protecting yourself. One is to zip tie or use a coat hanger to tie the emergency release into place (you can still pull down if you use enough force) For some that may not be enough (because some one could use something more than just a coat hanger) there are things called garage shield etc.. links: How: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0YP60j1VR4[/ame] Protection: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iFwITjSZks[/ame] http://www.thegarageshield.com/
What about your neighbors garage (literally 15 ft from yours?) And does the person have to be inside your house or not? In my case I live in a town home so the alleyway is shared. My neighbors garage is really messed up unfortunately. luckily they were not able to get in.
I actually have an alarm on my garage bay door that is a part of the alarm system. If it opens for any reason in any way it goes off and contacts the police. Josh
the just used a peice of wood to smash my neighbors garage door just enough so they could have a line of sight. thank good ness our release systems arent the flip style. you have to pull directly down
Apparently for a mere $35 you can purchase a $1 piece of foam board and bolt it on to prevent this trick from working http://www.thegarageshield.com/garage-shield/the-garage-shield
I actually had someone steal a longboard from my garage today. I live in a cul-de-sac in a VERY quiet neighborhood and everyday for over a year we leave the garage open and its our entrance point into the house. Our house has an alarm but not our garage door. My neighbors son's friend came and told me he saw some kids riding a board that looked like mine. So I went out and found them and chewed their ass, got my board and saw the mom inside. I talked to her and then I came home and called the cops and reported it. We are getting cameras this weekend, I am not going to be scared to leave our door open in our freaking house. You steal something, your going to be on camera and you will go to jail because I will find you Yes I know its our fault since we leave the door open but I'm sorry its BS that I can't. On top of everything, I was inside the house when they took it. Punk ass kids
I caught 2 kids trying to do the to my neighbors garage a few months ago, chased them off called the cops. must have been a slow crime day in the city of dallas, because they sent out about 5 patrol cars and the helicopter. the police woman who was in charge was really cool, she took me around the neighborhood while I gave her the details on what I saw, after about 20 min they had caught about 12 people, most were kids skipping class, others were just trespassing probably homeless, none of them were the 2 kids I saw. I was a little surprised at the number of people they found because I rarely see anyone in my neighborhood, though the officer was not surprised at all.
I had some birds break in to my garage & crap on the 348 over the weekend, my mistake for leaving the cover off.
