Miura, the original supercar

I thought it could have been the one you restored to lime green for the swiss owner, since they are from the same area (Appenzell).

Could this one be in the famous Dauphin collection?

The car in the Dauphin collection looks blue, not purple (Plum Crazy), but at any rate I'm not certain.

So, the proper methodology if your Miura is on fire while you are driving is to go much faster. It should make for a great YouTube video, but at least your slats will be fine, your carbs not so much.

That picture hurts just looking at it.

 

I was told by Peter Hay when he picked up his new Miura SV in 1972 the salesman at the time told him if it catches fire to dip the clutch and press the accelerator hard to suck the flames back in,he thought he was joking!I had an SV catch fire on me once and this works, the fire only damages the venturi of the carbs and the air box,I was not travelling very fast when it happened,travelling at speed might be different but they don't normally catch fire when the engine is at high revs,the cars I know that have had fires are normally sat in traffic.

I tried to help Kidston with this, because I remembered that this pic was posted on F-chat one-two years ago. So i thought the vin # maybe was posted here as a comment to the pic. But after some search here I found out there was non vin # posted.

I would think that establishing this car's chassis number by an interested party would be relatively simple given that the location of the incident, the date of its occurrence, and the car's livery are known.

Very interesting match. Looks like the Daytona won because he cheated, he's driving on the "right" side while the Miura's driven on the "left" side (no political implications intended, BTW)

Generally speaking, Miuras that raced DNFd. Great road cars, but as a race car, not so much.

In their 30th anniversary edition this month, Classic & Sports Car claim in a more general context that the Daytona beats the Miura. Is that really the case? I guess it depends what aspect of the car you're talking about. It can't be about what goes round a track better. By most accounts, the Miura is a supercar and gave birth to the term. It broke new ground in so many ways. But is a Daytona a supercar? I don't think so.

And admittedly, asking this question on this forum is a bit like asking an estate agent if a house is good value...

I think you make my point actually.

The Miura is not a track car, its a Supercar. For the road. And yes, its not about what goes around a a track faster. Its about a glorious shape & sound on the road, and in that regard nothing betters the Miura. But when the Miura has been used on the track in competition in the period, it has generally failed miserably. The fact that the Daytona, admittedly a non-Supercar, could have an off, yet still cruise round and catch & beat the Miura, says it all about the Miura's track prowess. Therefore, the notion that the Miura is a fabulous road car, but not a track car, is a sound one, and was the only point I was making. FWIW I'm on record for loving Miuras having owned 5 different Miura SVs over the last couple decades. Great road cars.

 

In 1967, Toly Arutunoff purchased a Miura P400 via Dallara at the factory specifically to go SCCA racing in the USA. He picked it up at the port in New Orleans and drove it home to Tulsa OK seeing "175mph" along the way! He tried it in a couple of SCCA races but gave up due to brake & cooling problems. However he then proceeded to use it as a great road car for the next decade or so.
