What are you guys doing to repair and/or replace broken floor mat retainers? A couple of mine have the twist part broke off and these are NLA from Ferrari. Replacing them with something better and more readily available would ne nice. I have not started my internet searching for a suitable replacement option, but I figured I would ask here first. I did not have any luck searching the forum on this topic.

I really don't need these since the mats stay put fine, but I don't like having anything broken or non-functional on my car.

They're called "common sense" fasteners. Used on boats and available online.

You might need to paint them if you don't like chrome.

I just need to measure mine and find some the right size. Hopefully I can find some with the same hole spacing. The good thing is they are dirt cheep :) Less than $1.

I bought "tall" ones because by the time I put the washer on the carpet together with the carpet thickness the regular one was too tight to do up.

Good to know. I tried ordering these as well, only to be told they are no longer available. I need to order them. Does anyone know where to find the oval gromemts in the floor mats? A few of mine are missing and I was looking to replace them, but they are not sold individually at Ricambi or the usual sources.

I have a few I've used for a sail on a sunfish. Let me see how close they match in size. If they are close, any marine store would have them

This is probobly true until you try to find the black ones. The nickel plated brass are everywhere. The black ones are a little more elusive.

Those will most likely be nickel plated.

OK... I have a big bucket of rug munchers without the grommets. These are not the original Ferrari ones, but they work just fine. See picture below of them used in a set of Lloyd Mats F355 mats that I had in stock.

I'll sell sets of 4x pieces for $2.00/set (yes). The only problem is that our website has a flat rate minimum shipping of $6.50. So, if you purchase them on our site we'll ship postal priority (usually 2-3 days anywhere in the USA).

I think we have 200x here.

This may be a stupid question but I've been trying to figure this out for a while with no luck. Does anyone know how to get a broken floor matt retainer off? My eyes aren't what they used to be, it looks like a hex key would do it but I tried all the sizes I have and none work.

I have the exact same problem that treedee3d posted the photos of. I've ordered the parts from Ricambi but can't get the old ones off the car.

Does anyone know what the blue handled tool is he's using in the photo above?

You have to drill the rivets out. That blue handle tool is a rivet gun. You will need to rivet the new fastener in after your drill the old ones out.

It's super easy. You do indeed need to drill the old heads out but they come out super easily..whole job took me about 6 minutes to remove and replace both retainers

I've never worked with rivets before. I'll stop by Sears and get a rivet gun. I guess you just drill the head off the rivet and then pull it put? If there's anyway to mess this up I'll probably find it. :)

You want to be careful when you drill the old rivet. You do not want to drill out the hold on the floor pan any larger than it already is. So you want to drill into the head of the rivet with a drill bit that it around 2/3 of the diameter of the rivet head. But you only want to drill until you get through the head and then stop. Then you can remove the old retainer base. You will then punch the rest of the rivet out the bottom leaving the original hole. You then place the new retainer base in place on the original holes. Then insert the end of the new pop rivet into the base and through the hole in the pan of the car. You want to use a rivet that is the same diameter as the hole. Make sure that the rivet is pushed all the way until the head of the new rivet is pressing on the retainer base. You will then slide the rivet tool onto the rivet until it is all the way up against the head of the rivet. Then you will start squeazing the handle of the rivet tool. It will take a few squeazes to exand the back side of the rivet. It will tighten up at the end. Keep squeazing until it cuts the pin off of the rivet. Remember to pull the handles apart on the rivet tool to eject the pin of the installed rivet before doing the next one. That is about it! :D

Put in my common sense fasteners today finally. The short ones work perfectly. Of course you can use the long ones as well, but the short are more like the originals and the mat cannot slide up because the thing you turn is actual in the recess of the part on the mat.

I am wondering how thick/heavy the carpet mats are you have? I have the factory Ferrari carpet fasteners & am going to get a nice custom set (expensive) of carpet mats made/created. I am not sure that I will even need to use the fasteners with the tacky/non-slip backing & custom exact fitting. Is there a good way to remove the fasteners? other than drilling out the rivets & leaving holes or blanking it off?

Mine are pretty thick. I can't imagine you will find much thicker ones. These are much thicker than other ones I have bought for other cars. They have a dense black foam rubber like bottom and the corners have some other fabric reinforcement on the bottom. I had to use an X-acto knife to cut through the mats where the little fold over tabs go through. They would not poke through on their own. The mat grommets worked perfectly too.
