It's a team management mistake, the guy is not at 100% yet, you can't afford not to be extra careful.
I agree that it was stupid (I've never liked when guys hold their drivers till the last second) but I'm not going to make excuses for Alonso and I won't for Kimi either. They both screwed up today. And Massa was a nonentity. However, I think it was clear from the practice sessions that Kimi had nothing for Grosjean this weekend. We will see if he is more comfortable in Malaysia and a man of his talent will undoubtedly make some serious moves in the race.
I said it before but the first thing I always look for is how MSC did. I'm pretty sure we will see some podiums this year! I think tomorrow will be his first. Cannot wait to see him on the podium again. Only after that I look at the ferrari's performance. I think this will be the case even more this year.... P12 and P16... shame on you! And about Raikkonen, I never liked him and i do think his past performances were highly overrated. He was WC once, but the runner up that year was rookie Hamilton who lost only by a few points. About Massa. In the early days drivers were fired very easy at Ferrari. Currently it's about the opposite. Massa should have been released for his services a long time ago, but I pretty sure he will during this season
I agree, I'm a Kimi fan and I expected tough times, and to be honest i would have been glad to see Petrov stay at Lotus, 'cause I know Grosjean is gonna give him a hard time. However, I'm no engineer, but just being in front of my TV and the live timing i knew he was in trouble and should've got out immediately. I'm willing to accept a dangerous strategy with a driver you know well and whom you're used to work with. But not in that case, new to the team, 2 years missing, a crucial practice week lost, and has been complaining about the steering since day one. It's just common sense to be cautious.
Isn't that typically Kimi, complaining? Should any team forbid a driver to go out? come'n Kimi is a grown up and if he's going out and f*cks up you cannot seriously blame the team?
for the whole race I truly wish it happens tomorrow. For me Schumi proved my point (as a hardcore fan from the day he was @ benetton, i missed out on him during his few races at Jordan, sorry))more and more during the end of 2011 and would be so great to see him winning again.
Yes I can blame the team, it was unnecessary gamble. We get you don't like the guy, but stop trolling please, ok? Raikkonen typically complaining...right.
it's clear you DO like him. That's fine, everybody is entitled to his own opinion. However blaming a team for a drivers mistake is beyond me.
Everyone has been sooooo sure that this was a sure thing 3rd WDC for Vettel this year. I said all along that I didn't think it would be - that 2 years was enough for the others to catch up. That's F1. And now Vettel is upper-mid pack. We heard about how he's the most complete driver, the fastest guy, etc, etc. Watch him this year if RBR doesn't get the car back to the fastest on the grid. You will see mistakes, anger, collisions, excuses, etc. Nothing against Vettel - EVERY hard core true competitor hates to lose and will try to win at any cost - Hamilton, Schumacher, Alonso. We've seen all of them lose it and succumb to dirty driving and bullying when things don't go their way. We'll see the same from Vettel, mark my words. Also, so much for "Schumi is tarnishing his reputation" and "it was a huge mistake to come back". He's in what looks like the 2nd fastest car, and just smoked his young fast teammate. The man still has it, and is the ultimate competitor. He's looking like a serious contender for WDC this year! As for Kimi - we'll see. He got smoked by Massa a few years ago, and one thing is for sure, Kimi hasn't been getting better and better as he ages and doesn't drive in F1. I think he will be a huge disappointment this year. Those who said Button is going to beat Hami this year were dreaming. It was a one-time anomaly based on bad luck for Hami, good luck for Jenson, and a confluence of unlikely circumstances that let Button get ahead. It won't repeat this year or ever again. Wait and see. As for Ferrari... it's well known I can't stand Alonso and I think Massa is as useless as tits on a bull, but I feel bad for them. It's really not the drivers fault - the car is a dog, it seems. But knowing Luca, rather than rallying the troops to excel and do a better job, he will run and whine to the FIA. I fully expect the Mercedes wind/duct to get challenged by Ferrari at the first race and Luca will threaten to leave F1 (again) if it's not banned. He'll cry like a baby until he gets his way. But I don't care - Hami on top, Button 2nd, new blood up top, Schumi up top and beating Rosberg, and Vettel/Webber dropping back. I could not have asked for a more perfect result! I am thrilled!!!
it's a great guy indeed. Worked his way up pretty silently (even gp2 is just a pretty silent class) and eppearently he adjusted pretty quickly.
Whatever, if you don't want to read the arguments its fine. Ferrari as made this same mistake a few times, and it was the team fault, not Alonso or Massa. Waiting the last minute and not keeping an error margin is a mistake.
Ferrari did sent the drivers out to late in some occasions, that clearly a team misstake. Being sent out to late and run the car of the track isn't. But if you think otherwise, fine by me, just enjoy the show.
It is going to be a season where they soon throw the towel again and say they are going to develop for next season. Unfortunately they are going to develop another bottom third pack car. This can of course change if they SACK Massa and Domenicali IMMEDIATELY!!! They should have done that already at the beginning of last season!!
Not so sure about the pecking order after just one qualifying session/race but it confirmed that the f2012 is akin to the f92 IMHO...
