Hi Jack Question 2 I found this on the web that may assist http://www.cpsproducts.com/site/elements/download/PDFs/%2373-007%20AC10868A.pdf It has the torque figures for the York Question 1 The setup for the water pump drive I found this picture curtesy of MIE and my thanks to their web site. http://www.maseratinet.com/pc-21618-817-water-pump.aspx If you look at the picture the hole on the end of the drive plate goes over hex that you refered to and makes the is the back up or "Fail Safe" drive the other end of the "drive " plate has the cable riveted to it. One of the issues that happens with this cable is the way it is installed originally. The setup relys on the cable taking the bend as when it is installed it form a flat "Z" shape The ends of the fitting are made of a maliable steel and can be carefully bent so that when the cable is installed it leaves the cable effetivily straight. The cable is jsut bolted the the clutch plate 180 degrees to the back up hex. I really hope I have answered you questions Regards graeme Image Unavailable, Please Login
Graeme, Thanks much for your elaborate answer, much appreciated! All I can do from this end is forward the information,, I an sure it will solve whatever the questions were Hopefully next is bringing the car down!
Gentlemen, The electronic box in front of the car dose that control / do anything than ignition? Best regards John Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi John It controls just the ignition, and the "coil" is a single wind amp not a twin wound unit like that of a classic ignition. Regards Graeme
Yeah. I don't know why they put it there. Seems like a bad design/build decision. A few owners have moved it to inside of the engine compartment onto the wheel well.
If possible do any of you have or have made a drawing of the vacuum system of the Khamsin When I took my car apart many of the white vacuum hoses was just loose with no connections. I would like to test the system now when I have access to the system. The way I have connected the hoses (which made most sense) it work the following way The Khamsin has 3 vacuum valves which I name the following. Main valve (picture 1) Fresh air valve (picture 2) Window valve (picture 3) The main valve is connected directly to the engine intake (two contra valves into the manifold) is that correct? The switch in the car has the following options: FRESH Fresh valve and window valve is both open OFF Window valve is open and fresh valve is closed REC Both window valve and fresh valve are closed One more question; The vacuum buffer (round black plastic storage on picture 4) has two connections, one top and one in the bottom. The one in the bottom was connected to the +junction between the two electrical vacuum valves, where should the top be connected to I guess that is the main source of vacuum? That was a lot hope someone can help without taking a Khamsin apart!! Hello all: Good luck, John, Jack, Bal et all in your endeavours I admire your resolve, specially you John The weekend of March 10-11 I had a treat: went to Monaco to comment in a small but growing concours: the Montecarlo Concours d'elegance which now has Prince Albert's approval in fact he allowed one of his museum Rolls Royces to be displayed at the event so those of you in the south of France should keep next year's edition in mind. While in Monaco I was able to meet Brit expatiate Michael Quinlan who lives there with Khamsin AM120387, the car featured in a good article in octane magazine spring 2006. Michael kindly invited me over to his home for a drink and then just after sunset we went for a drive up la route de la Turbie in the car which had just had its carbs redone and sang better than any Khamsin I remember! Here are a few photos we took up there, that is St Jean Cap Ferrat in the background where some of the finest villas in the wolrd are! That was a fun ride The concours was won by...the Maserati Boomerang! I was not a judge just the chap with the microphone and was quite surprised that it beat an Isotta Fraschini worthy of Pebble beach. There was a funny moment an hour after the concours I was walking amidst the cars and someone I did not know at all walked towards me with a very serious look on his face and said: -"favoritism!" -"Ah what?! Excuse me?" -You have a Maserati pin on your blazer and the Maserati Boomerang won the concours!" I was able to laugh and explain that I had no part in judging! In other news the Frenchman who bought AM120018 at the Artcurial auction a few weeks ago wanted a new space saver spare tire...but was forced to buy four. He thus has three for sale. They are brand new old stock: "j'ai bien reçu les pneus 105R19 X Michelin ce sont des pneus neufs" He wants 100€ per, these will I think work for other Masers of the period. I have no commercial part in this, PM me if interested, located near Toulouse south west France, can be shipped at cost. best regards, Marc Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Marc, Doesn't sound like you have much to complain about, having drinks in Monaco and evening drives in Khamsins. I'm in a pretty good mood as well Today I received news that the a/c compressor is installed, and thus 435 is up and running, all systems working fine, no fluid leaks. Going to fetch her next Monday. Finally!
Hi John This may help. The Only comment is I used the two manifold valves on the left hand bank to supply all the system as they supplied more vacuum. Regards Graeme Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Jack: Yes it was fun and a nice break after a bleak winter of book work. I am happy for you that the long tunnel is running out and that your beauty will be home soon: you stuck to your guns through a trying process so move over the single malt bottle and prepare the bubbly! best regards, Marc
Hi Marc, Looks like Goerge has put his Kamsin up for sale. As you mentioned George hadn't been so well recently. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3731444.htm Bal
Hi Bal: Yes, George kindly corrected his ad this morning because it previously and mistakenly said Khamsin Quaranta was in the Bordeaux region (which is hundreds of miles further for most K owners) instead of Burgundy. His car AM120359 is the ex Rocco Forte car, of the Trusthouse Forte luxury hotel chain. I think £40K is a very reasonable price for it, and as he says yes if someone were to decide VERY quickly the car could still get an entry but literally only within the next few days. We are looking at 25 Khamsins entered and 27 on the day so I am very happy as is Doug my co organizer who is making it all possible: it will be an incredible sight and a truly memorable occasion! Yes George was no longer able to drive it due to his heatlh and so is wisely selling it without delay instead of letting it deteriorate as many do in such cases. He has many fond memories with it, some seriously fast drives (and having seen an indicated 150mph with him in a Bora in Nevada during Maser Miglia 2000 I can vouch for it). best regards, Marc
Gentlemen, Problem with vacuum system solved thanks to Graeme. Can anyone inform me the colour of cables related to fog light switch in the cabin and the cable colours in the front of the car. According to the diagram they should be different from right to left side in the front I just seam to find two similar orange "no use cables" relatively thick. Fare more difficult - do anyone have knowledge of all the different relays, boxes placed in the cabin. It would be very nice to know what is placed where in case of problems later. I can post pictures of each part if needed! If someone made a catalogue - picture, description and position - of each item it would be a great help for all of us! Looking forward to have info if possible! Best regards John
Hi John Do you have a Khamsin Handbook? as this has the wiring diagram in the back. Also the Khamsin wiring diagram has all the wiring for all of the accessories ie the driving lights. Regards Graeme
Hello all: if anybody is in Essen for Tecno Classica could you please get some shots of the car? Curious to know if it has had any work done since I saw it in 2009. It is up for auction tomorrow afternoon. We now have over 20 Khamsins entered and paid for KHAMSIN QUARANTA with a handful of last minute stragglers coming in so looking very good! best regards, Marc
Yes, very nice. But oh what ugly bumpers! And what's that odd-looking yellow thing behind the Khamsin?
Hmmmm My (US) front bumper doesn't stick out near that far, never noticed. In a mild bump I'd still say it'll work FAR better than the euro one which looks nice but is about worthless as a bumper. You never know what someone might do in a parking lot Yea, the rear is over the top effective.
It was very common practice on Khamsins and Boras to collapse the "shocks" in the front bumpers to give the car a more trimmed appearance in the front. More than likely if you grab your front bumper and pull it, it will come out to its original position.
Gents, just coming back from Stuttgart's Retro Classics Motor Show which features Maserati this year. Awesome! A great gathering of Maseratis from all eras including some racing cars which have not been seen in public for decades (Tipo 26B, 6CM, 2 250Fs, 450s and many more). I was really impressed. Sunday is the last day, if you have any chance to get there... GO. This post here now to report on the two Ks which I have seen there. First of all the very few kilometers 406(did not see the number, was told) which is in pristine original condition. Strage colour to my opinion, it looks like oro on the pictures, but when you stand in front of it, it has shades off grey. Marc you probably now the name of this car's colour? And then there was 038 which was also in excellent condition as far as I could see. What I found intriguing about 038 is the steering wheel, which is not the same type as we are used to see on the early cars. 038 is for sale as it seems, did not inquire for the price. Enjoy the pics, sorry for the poor quality, I did not have a lot of time to care about the right angle etc... there were just so many great Maseratis to see.
