Another Brown guy checking in from Halifax, Nova Scotia It's amazing to see all these pictures. The country has come a long way! Back in the day, I co-founded one of Punjab's (and neighbouring states) most well known automotive club, and was in regular contact with people owning import bikes and cars. Yet.. I was totally dumbfounded in a some of my last visits back to Punjab (in 2009 and 2011). The same streets that used to littered with Maruti, Hyundai, Honda cars now have more BMW 3 series and X1's than others. Teenagers I knew who used to attend the club meets with their scooters / bikes now had Audi R8's and M3's and what not in their garage. It seems to me that the buying power has indeed grown over the past few years... atleast for some sections of the society. I will be visiting back again this summer. Will make sure I click lots of pics for you guys.
welcome on board rajat ... yeah, the indian car scene has changed considerably. chandigarh, for example, has prob the largest concentration of mercedes in india. & between bombay, bangalore, etc., you can see almost every super car available. without the roads to drive them on, of course ... and do post pics ... that'll be great.
Can't say I agree. Exotic cars are expensive toys. To have one, therefore, requires a certain amount of wealth. It does not imply driving expertise, but itis also incorrect to automatically assume that the owner is a bad driver. How you drive and what you drive are not related. I don't see someone with an exotic car and think they have a death wish. Nor do I immediately assume that they drive rashly. Where are you getting this from? In this case, he took care to go out in the car when the streets were relatively empty. If he even hit 50-60 mph, relatively sedate speeds, it would still be enough to seriously hurt someone on a bicycle. How do you know the bicyclist didn't suddenly swerve out on to the roadway? How do you know he was traveling much faster? How do you know it was the Lamborghini driver's fault? Even when cars are crawling along in the mid-day rush, there are plenty of accidents, and if one of the parties is on foot or on bicycle or on top of an animal, they sustain catastrophic injury. I don't get it--what do you have against owners of exotics? If anything, having one in India shows how much greater the owner's passion is. Imagine buying a car like that in a country like India--exorbitant import duties and taxes, zero service facilities, abject poverty and naked resentment everywhere, crap roads, crap traffic mix, virtually zero traffic law adherence or enforcement, and the danger of an unsympathetic mob to lynch you if anything goes wrong, no matter whose fault it is. The bicyclists are harmless by themselves, but so are the exotic car drivers. It's the mix that is so deadly. If something goes wrong, why should your sympathy go to only one party? Do you know some detail about this accident that allows you to conclude it is entirely the fault of the Lamborghini driver?
do some research on the accident. you might be surprised at what you find. but you are free to believe what you want.
The only research I can do is ask some of my contacts who live in Delhi (they only know what is in the papers, which is nothing but wild speculation), and read the news reports online. Nothing there sheds any light as to who was at fault, or what the speeds involved were. I read in one that the Lambo was traveling at 150km/h. That's about 90mph. That is nothing but speculation, and a Lambo can be hauled down from 90mph to 30mph in no time flat. From the pictures of the bent railings, and the damage on the Lamborghini, I would think that it was traveling at a much slower speed at the point of impact. I have not heard of any toxicology reports that indicate the driver was drunk or under any other influence. What is this additional information you claim to have? Why are you so reluctant to share it? If he was truly at fault, sure, he should be blamed. But there is no evidence that he was. Do you have any, or do you just like to sit there and hint that you know something when you really don't?
Welcome Rajat !! You might have checked this thread - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/super-cars-imports-india/22641-imports-chandigarh.html What is the name of the club you co-founded ?

Staying at the Leela. Any places to go where to see nice cars? What about nightlife here? Where is the evening fun??? Good place for people watching? Thanks, DL
Don: For people watching, Ambience Mall in Gurgaon. Or take a taxi or metro and head to Rajiv Chowk, lots of people watching at Connaught Place. Being outdoors in the heat isn't too much fun though. As far as nice cars, I'd say within Delhi, the embassy areas and most areas around there, at night time. I'd say post on a local car club forum, but apparently to "join" the site you need to type a paragraph about WHY they should let you join. My "application" was rejected, go figure. If you want specific areas shoot me a PM and I'll ask around for ya.
yeah ... i saw that too ... bit of an infantile anal bunch aren't they? i didn't bother ... since they obviously hv a major tick up their ass ...
Hahaha, since I'm an 'American/ABCD', they let me in! I don't post on there much, though I did meet someone that moved to Phoenix and we are good friends, I haven't seen him in a few months though, we've both been busy!
they ask for an essay to be written ... seriously !!! how retarded is that ??? obviously not the kinds forum i wanna be part of ... oh, and if u chooses to use sms type shorthand, they will kick u out !!! i get the feeling it's run by 5 year olds ...
I typed a sentence and still got in. I agree, I had a post deleted because it wasn't long enough, I got pissed that it was deleted and sent a PM and said if I had more to say I would have typed it. The fact that they over moderate is reason enough to not post there. Add to the fact that they add their own watermarks over images is ****ing annoying, they don't own my property nor do they have a right to place a watermark over my image. It is still my property even if I post it on a forum. I sent a nasty PM over that, they responded with something like it's to prevent something (can't remember), probably stealing images, which I have no problem with, it's when someone claims it as theirs, that's what is annoying. Aside from a few issues, it's a great idea, just not a good outcome of the idea. Say you own a 599 GTO and you'll probably get in, unless they think you are kidding!
tnx ... but i think i'll pass ... there are plenty of sites run by mature individuals who treat their members as adults ... why go looking for a pain in the ass type of site ??? cos that's what it is ...
Indeed, that's why post here and deal with other pains in the asses, like me...oops did I say that out loud!
So clearly I'm not the only one not "welcome" to that site, haha. I did see one thing though, there's a HUGE demand for a reliable performance parts supplier in India... Just need to work on the clientele. Lots of people on there apparently just order from Summit so far (not sure if many people bother modding F-cars or other exotics/Germans though. But as for the watermarks, definitely VERY annoying. Can't think of any real reason they'd do it other than to maybe try claiming that it belongs to them? On a somewhat related note: Paragraph 36 they claim jurisdiction in MA. Paragraph 8 says they own all graphics/pictures. In 17 you pretty much waive (not legally but sure) any SOL. Paragraph 20 is the best, if the "author" of the terms has to show up in court, you "agree to pay" $1,000/hr. They must be doing pretty well to have that kind of billing rate.
