I roll down the window, sling my penis over the sill and drive sedately away.

For a serious answer - no for several reasons.

    1. I am an adult.

    2. Because I dont want to be the recipient of a lawsuit.

    3. I drive a 308 thats 27 years old. Something breaks who's gotta pay for it - ME!!

    4. For me its about style rather than speed.

    5. IMO, the 308 is one of the most beautiful cars ever built. It doesnt look right when its trashed on the side of a road wrapped around a tree.

    6. Its still a 308, not superfast by todays standards.

Patrick, you summed it up well for 308 owners.

As with my previous 330 2+2, I soothe both the competitive urge and any feelings of inadequacy by calling on my age and inner snob..."hey, I'm 62 years old, driving a classic Ferrari, and don't stoop to racing with kids in ricers."

Racing off a track is selfish and dangerous.

    Ditto plus it proves nothing.

Honor is proven at places like Le Mans, Sebring, Spa, Daytona and The Nurburgring.

    He actually SAT DOWN???? Seriously???
He would have suffered severe injury, anywhere in Texas, doing that..

I stopped for a roadside brisket sandwich in Ettinger, and as I exited the Caddy they asked:

"Are you here, for the Wild West Shoot Out?"

"No thanks I need to get to Austin, make it a brisket sandwhich light on the sauce, in deference to this white shirt I have on...to go."

They must have noticed the badge, from the Saint Patrick's Day Parade...I tossed some beads onto the deer antlers, and was on my way....

As to the OP, "no", let something "bad" happen during a "Contest for Speed" and you will looose everything you own..

    No.

The way I figure it, my Testarossa, along with the mighty Countach, and 930 Turbo were the kings of the road in the mid-1980's. She is long since retired.

Her place in the automotive history is firmly secured, let the new kids with their souped up imports fight for supremacy on teenagers walls, the track and the drag strip, our older Ferraris have already done everything they set out to do. At her age, getting back in the "Ring" would make as much sense now as Sugar Ray Leonard giving it another go.

Besides, it pisses them of much more when you ignore them and just roll on by.

As for you newer F-car owners---why bother?

To put a spin on something a friend told me, owning a Ferrari means you've already won.

    :D

    Whole heartedly agree.

That kind of behavior on a street is silly and dangerous.

    A) Who's going to care if you win or loose on the street?
    B) (At the risk of sounding immodest) Even if the guy in the other car wins the strret race.. in the end you're in the Ferrari.

My favorite response to a challenge. I read it here on F-chat. I wish I could remember who posted it as credit is due.

Someone pulls up next to a Ferrari driving a hotrod.
Driver of hotrod says you want to race?
Ferrari driver "What for I already won" :D

"I take on only those that I know I will win"

Back in high-school we called that the "Chevy" answer (my buds & I all drove Mopars - fast ones).

    Where is the choice:

"I take on only those who may actually have a chance"

A friend of mine owned a new BMW M Roadster back in the day and some guy pulled up to him in an Acura something or other...

    That was his response!

I get an endless variety of challenges and silly crap when I'm out in the 360, but I never respond. I just take the compliment and cruise along.

I know, as others have said, I've already won. What amazes me is that people in all types of vehicles always feel the need to punch it off the line and race out in front of me. It's the same stupidity that I see when I'm driving my Hummer H1 believe it or not. People just have to try and prove something, no matter what that "something" might be.

Racing on the street is simply dumb.

If you never race, you'll keep 'em guessing. That's much better than proving yourself a fool, or even worse, proving they're faster. ;)

    This.

Honestly, I'm not the best driver. I don't like hurting my cars either. Launching aggressively makes me weep for my clutch. Depending on how you look at it, taking $100 off my clutch racing some pimple-faced kid in a rice rocket already makes me a loser, even if I won, which I probably wouldn't.

Or for us small fry in a spec car at the local Motorsport ranch.
But damn those kids are fast these days. Or is it I am slower and with more ballast ?
    Bah ! Unthinkable !
