    Has anyone had any experience with an ECU Tune for the 2012 458?

    I believe Novitec Rosso, EvomsIt and a few others do it for our cars.

    In that past I have always had them done on my Porsches and Maseratis.

    I suggest waiting until you know everything works on a car before voiding the warranty.

    Since the ECU requires no attention I presume you want to improve performance. As you are aware allot of places can adjust the ECU, including those you mention, as well as Fabspeed and others. What hp/torque difference are you looking for? It might be safer and easier to simply add exhaust modifications. For certain, touching the ECU will void your warranty, no if ands or buts. Best

    If you don't care about your warranty and want to increase performance then I would add some turbos. Otherwise, something as simple as fuel mapping isn't going to do enough to be noticeable. So you get the downside (no warranty) and no upside (negligible performance improvement).

    Or just take out all the weight you can.

    Fabspeed has advertised a package that claims 60 additional hp at crank with ecu tune, headers, sport cats. Without the ecu tune, the changes supposedly add another 25-30 hp. My dealer mentioned this to me and I'm likely to do the entire package once my warranty runs out. Right now I'm pretty well fully challenged trying to master the current hp/tq on the track.

    An exhaust, header, and cat combo should do the trick. There are many options.

    If you're looking for a SERIOUS increase, send it to Underground Racing and get some turbos ;)

    I always have to laugh when someone says "enough". If that were the case we would probably be driving old Volkswagen "bugs" , which, incidentally, "feel" like they are really fast given their size. Most of us are looking to do "something" to be "special".

    I suspect it may have to do with "bragging rights" as much as anything else, since we are really still "kids" playing with our toys. Really, how many here put their foot to the floor on city streets or even on the highway? Anyone with more hp and attempts to use it on the street is taking chances with their and other peoples lives and most here who like to drive fast wait to get to the track (or so I hope).

    I am not immune and need to laugh at myself as well. When I bought a CTS V I had to "add" hp, when I bought the 430, I needed an "exhaust", and when I bought my Porsche Turbo, I once again had to "tinker". Once bitten always smittin. Best

    I have a lot of safe opportunities to use WOT, perhaps its a bit easier out West. But i don't get many miles out of set of tires, 2k to 5k MAX. Most of my cars are turbo'd. A turbo 458 would be insanely fun. I'd probably need new tires with every tank!

    i have purchased the complete package from fabspeed. headers, cats,mufflers and ecm tuning. best way to improve hp without going the turbo route

    Like another stated,I mod all my cars with ECU flashes.Exhaust,Wheels.But with my 458.I thought twice.If you have (any) mechanical problem.Ferrari italy requires a picture and they require a reading of your ECU directly from the plug-in and they will void any warranty repair even if it has nothing to do with the flash.You can get away with an exhaust,rims on the Ferrari.I have,I've been to parties with the service mechanic he told me that strict warning that Ferrari italy will read that flash and throw you under the bus.

    whaaaaaa! i dont wanna touch my ferrari because i might lose my warranty. whats it like to pay so much money for a car only to be told what to do with it? if it makes you happy modify it.

    I would be the first to do it.But it ain't worth the mess.It's fast enough just order your exhaust.When I first got my 458 it sounded like my S63.I took the valve hoses off it sounded better.However it lost back pressure / Lowend and didn't sound the way it should have.I put a Tubi on it and now it sounds the way it should.Fabspeed wouldn't be my first choice for an exhaust.This site has alot of knowledgeable people about these cars and they are here to help.

    I think the point is that it's a Ferrari, not a VW. Getting an extra 60HP on a 200HP car is significant ... on this car, it is less so. For most, the stock performance is sufficient. I understand that some like to mod their cars, others don't. A matter of taste. But, certainly, the loss of warranty on a $300k car is something to be concerned about. If any of our businesses, do we honor warranties on equipment that the customer has intentionally modified? I think not, nor do I blame them for taking such a stance.

    To each his own, but I'd hardly consider concern over voiding a warranty to be whining.

    Good to know. I odered a Tubi Exhaust for my soon to arrive 458, did same for 997 Twin Turbo (but a 6cyl will never sound like an 8). Best

    I researched which exhaust to put on once I determined which one would past smog requirements unless you want to pull off and put back on pieces. Best

    I like Tubi as well.Here is my 2012 SRT8 Jeep playing with my Ferrari.I didn't even floor it
    But you can hear the Tubi exhaust.I had all the Porsche TT's 993,996,997.Turn it up!!

    hey I'm all for doing whatever you want but there are some pretty well document issues with the 458 (ie tranny) that Ferrari will jump at the chance to void any and all pretty well documented warranty issues. So as long as you don't mind paying for expensive stuff that you normally would not have to, then go for it. IOW, if an imperceptible .10 sec/lap time for a street car is worth, say a new tranny at 22k, plus whatever mods you're doing, just for the sake of checking that off your bucket list, well then knock yourself out. If you don't have a 458, well your opinion doesn't even count IMO ;)

    Just to be crystal clear I'm not bashing f-car mods, I've been there done that.

    Hey Guys,

    Clearly there is a divided response to the "mod or not mod a brand new Ferrari" question. I am positive that we will see an increase in 458 business when the warranties start to expire. There are many companies (including Fabspeed) that make a replacement muffler if you are looking to change the sound. However, if your main priority is to increase performance, I would start with the headers and cats. I recommend the ECU upgrade (in conjunction with EVOMSit) for people who are looking to maximize the HP, but I fully understand if you would prefer to wait until the warranty has expired. Changing just the muffler will have very little HP increase. Many of our customers have done the headers/cats/ECU combination which is good for about 60hp and the muffler valves will still work with the Manettino settings. There is no question that the 458 is brilliant when it leaves the factory, but some people are looking for a little more. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

    so... i do have a 458 and will mod it. Not because its on my " bucket list" but because i want to and i don't live in fear of what might happen.I purchased the car to enjoy it how i see fit. not to worry about resale or the next owners wants. Its also not about getting every last horsepower but rather having a more unique sounding and looking 458. i have a challenge car on order for the track. My 458 is also being lowered along with the wheels being black powder coat.I guess its the difference of being a real car guy compared to someone who needs the internet to make decisions on whether or not they should do something that makes them happy.

    Um ... didn't you start this thread by asking for opinions? Is this not the internet that we're all on? Does that classify you as not a "real" car guy?

    You are free to do what you wish to your car, and asking others about mods they may have made and what they think of them is one of the primary reasons for belonging to a group such as this. Understand that opinions vary, and some might be contrary to your own. Doesn't make them bad, doesn't mean those who offer such aren't "real". No reason to take offense, everyone here is just being honest and, as far as I can see, being fairly polite about it. Sounds like you already know what you want and that's great ... go for it and let us all know how things turn out. But if you are going to ask opinions, or post results, just be cognizant of the fact that some will like what you've done and others will not. If we were all like-minded, this wouldn't be nearly as much fun, nor as educational.
